I listened to this yesterday and it is remarkably consistent. I really like the production, it's kinda what I'd like to sound like. Lots going on. The lyrics are weak enough.

As you know, I'm a big fan of this album. It was my 'best album in the world that no other album will ever better' that you tend to have when you're about 10. Only Waiting For The Day used to let it down a bit for me... quick rate would be along the lines of:

10|Chorus

04|Waiting For The Day

09|Joan

11|Breath Of Life

10|Am I Right?

09|Love To Hate You

07|Turns The Love To Anger

09|Siren Song

07|Perfect Stranger

08|Home

I'm still definitely biased towards it because of the memories attached to it but I'd like to think it remains a thoroughly decent pop album. Plus the artwork in this era was great too.

Actually, Waiting for the Day stood out. I much rather have the 7" version of Breath of Life.

Is the album version different to the 7" version? I only know the version radio stations played which I assume is the same version tracklisted on Now! 21 (which I have somewhere on double cassette format  ).

The single version seems a bit punchier and always used to be my favourite version but over time I've decided I prefer the album version with it's lovely intro. The crashing wave noise in the single version irritates me these days too.

not much different but the bridge is much better on the 7" version.

I thought 'Love To Hate You' was fantastic at the time, still do really quite love the main riff - never heard the whole album though.

Love To Hate You is probably the critics pick of he tracks - it's is mainly Abba- influenced with a bit of I Will Survive at the end.

Back then I did personal charts and it was the only one of the four singles that didn't make number 1. Number 2 or 3 if I remember correctly. Now it is the one I prefer.

I always found Erasure like a pale imitation, a karaoke version of, Yazoo - who released 2 albums Erasure couldn't possibly better. It's obvious that the material Vince Clarke gave Andy Bell to sing for the first few albums was actually written for Alison Moyet..... who'd have sung them a whole lot better.

Vocal-wise Andy Bell could never top Alison Moyet but Vince Clarke got much better at making music, in my opinion.

I have a druken confession :P .... just after the first Erasure album, I was in London in a bar and I saw Andy Bell.... he was being the big "I am" with a group of fawning fans, despite not really having a hit to their name at that point.

He pushed past me and made some comment when I refused to move unless he said "excuse me"..... to which I aswered "Christ, if Alison Moyet were dead, she'd be turning in her grave listening to you doing your karaoke impressions of her"..... he looked mortified, bless him. I saw him at the Brighton Yazoo gig a few years back, too.... he was probably gutted watching how truly spectacular they were.

Whenever I listen to Erasure, I always wonder hw brilliant Yazoo would have been had they liked each other and stayed together.... :(

I downloaded Wild and I Say, I Say, I Say yesterday and dug out their Erasure album...Wild is very weak - apart from the singles Crown of Thorns is the only decent track. The other two are better but still a bit bland.

I reckon it's better dusting off Upstairs at Erics, You and Me Both, and definitely investing in the Yazoo Reconnected Live album....which is absolutely brilliant - and testament that Mr Clarke and Ms Moyet still have the magic touch - in fact, listening to the live album, moreso now than back then I'd say.

"Chorus" chorus is epic the other verses not so good.I think Vince would have preffered to stay in Depeche Mode but he was taking them into a 2 poppy direction.Martin took over and they went into much better darker electro/goth/industrial/rock/indie/pop territory.

Only You has to be one of best songs of all time though

I absolutely adored Breath of Life, Love to Hate You and Always (from I Say...) as a kid. I still do but never listened to their albums which I'm going to do now (THANK YOU Spotify).

Always never hit me the way I Love Saturday did - which, along with Fingers and Thumbs - is one of their 2 best songs, in my opinion.

Fingers and Thumbs is a fantastic song, the album version especially. Their self titled album is easily one of their best, the way they abandoned their 3 minute song structure was really quite daring and the majority of the results are great... only the final couple of the tracks let it down for me.

I never really liked I Love Saturday but I did like a lot of the I Say I Say I Say album, primarily Take Me Back, Always, So The Story Goes, Run To The Sun and All Through The Years.

ILS is just wonderful, for me. Heavenly vocals and a classic song structure. Love it! I am considering going to see them in June.

It's the lyrics that used to put me off I Love Saturday I think - although I haven't listened to it in about a decade at least. Maybe I'll give it another go before condemning it.
