A big controversial signing. Pennant has had lots of trouble in the past, but he was easily Birmingham's best player last season. The fee seems to be a little high but the alternative would have been Alves who would have been a good signing but Rafa would be taking a gamble in the fact that he minght not adapt to the Premiership and he might not be cut out to be a right winger, where as Pennant is a proven Premiership player. I think he could turn out to be a decent player but I don't think he'll be a guranteed starter, as I can still see Gerrard playing on the right hand side for quite a few games next seaosn.

Interesting move by Rafa

If the past is anything to go by Pennant will spend more time in police cells than out on the pitch though

I think Benitez has been very shrewd in the transfer market this summer. He's not signed anyone who you'd call world class but he's certainly improving his squad. Though signing Pennand AND Bellamy is a bit of a risk!

He was inprisoned for drink driving (I think) and that was once for a few months so it's not like he's a drug addict or anything

He was also one of the "spit roast" players, he has lost his licence for drink driving 3 times and he also borrowed Anthony Gardner's car and crashed it

There are rumours floating round that Rafa's intrested in Anelka as well, but I doubt he'll go for Anelka.

Pennant could be a bit of a risk, but I don't think Rafa would have bought Pennant if he thought he was gonna go back to his old way. I think prison really gave Pennat a kick up the arse and that he realized that he wasn't this wonder kid anymore who had great potenital.

 At least he made history last season by being the first player in the Premiership to wear an electronic tag whilst being on the pitch. -_-

Pennant is a good buy imo. He's proven and more or less consistent. If used correctly, which seems to one of Rafa's main good points, then I can see him doing well for them next season :D

I've just read an article on Pennant's move and I think it becomes even clearer why Rafa went for Pennant, as he made 497 crosses in the Premiership last season which was the most in the Premiership, and Liverpool have a big target man in Crouch but TBH I don't think Crouch's strong point is his heading as he's so tall that he doesn't need to jump so he doesn't get any power on the ball.

Dunno bout this signing... seems a bit of a second rate signing really.

I suppose our transfer budget isn't that big though so I'll keep an open mind.

It's a very good move in my opinion. He's fast and gets tons of crossed in every week. Fowler, Bellamy and Crouch are all good in the air so that should bring them a few goals in. The only problem is whether he'll get his place really ...

Well when Liverpool signed him, i've got to admit that I had my doubts about him, but he he was immense today for Liverpool against Haifa. Liverpool were really poor and Pennant and Bellamy were really the best players on the pitch. Liverpool badly missed a proper right winger last season but tonight Pennant really showed what he can do ^_^

Agree with all of that - I was impressed last night.

He was really good for Liverpool last night, now if he could learn to cross the ball like David Beckham we would have a World Class player.

I think he should be in the England squad today myself ^_^

I think he shouls be as well ^_^ With Beckham beeen supposivley dropped for the match against Greece there should be a place avaliable for a different right sided player which should be Pennant.

Well according to various newspapers today he's the prime candidate to replace Becks ...
