Posted April 13, 201114 yr Hye guys.. I was just wondering like how much of an effect the US itunes is on the US charts :/ like over here its like really effective, as in you can see whos gonna be no.1 and what not just from the itunes chart most of the time. Also I've heard its rare for a track to debut at no.1 in the US whereas its common over here:/ i ask because Jessie J is no.16 with price tag at the moment, and its been released for a while now :/ so im wondering has she peaked or is it not too late, thanks ;)
April 13, 201114 yr The main chart in the USA (Billboard Hot 100) is based on a combination of sales, airplay and streaming. The iTunes chart is usually a good indication of where songs chart on Hot Digital Songs (which is based entirely on download sales) but I'm not sure what market share iTunes has in the US. Songs don't often début at #1 on the BBH100 because unless they start with absolutely enormous sales (such as GaGa's BTW, Britney's 3 and HIAM, Ke$ha's WRWWR) they need to wait a few weeks for airplay to build up to get enough 'points' to get to #1. The formula for points being something like 1,000 sales = 1pt and 1,000,000 radio AI = 1pt I think?
