Singles

After scoring their first Top 10 entry last week, LMFAO now score their first No.1 single here, as their latest track "Party Rock Anthem" leaps three places to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart this week. The track has been No.1 in New Zealand the past couple of weeks, making us the only two countries to place this at No.1 (so far), and this is the first single from the group’s forthcoming second album “Sorry for Party Rocking”.

Redfoo and SkyBlu are both relatives of Motown founder Berry Gordy, and they’re the first duo to top the charts since The Veronicas did it back in November 2007 with “Hook Me Up”, plus they’re the 29th duo to top our charts, plus the fourteenth American duo to hit No.1 here, the last US duo to do so was K-Ci and JoJo back in June 1998 with “All My Life”.

“Party Rock Anthem” is the 980th No.1 single in Australia (1940-2011), and the 28th for the Interscope label, with Lady GaGa’s “Born This Way” being their last chart-topper. It’s the third song to feature ‘Party’ in it’s title, the first being “It’s My Party” by Lesley Gore (1 week, July 1963) and the last one was P!nk’s “Get the Party Started” (2 weeks December 2001). It’s the tenth song to feature ‘Rock’ in it’s title, the first was “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around the Clock” for Bill Haley & His Comets (6 weeks, Aug 1955), the last being Sandi Thom’s “I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair)” (10 weeks, Sept 2006), whilst it’s the first song to feature ‘Anthem’ in it’s title. LMFAO are also the 388th American act to hit the top with the 642nd No.1 by an American performer.

So after only one week at the top, Snoop Dogg's "Sweat" drops back to No.2, his first No.1 though; "Signs", stayed twice as long at the top, two whole weeks. Jessie J and B.o.B stay put at No.3 for a third week with "Price Tag", and dropping two places to No.4 is the former chart-topper "On the Floor" for Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, and whilst JLo debuts with her new song lower down the Top 100, Pitbull jumps nine places to land at No.5 with his new solo single "Give Me Everything" to become his sixth Top 10 appearance.

The Black Eyed Peas' "Just Can't Get Enough" and Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home" both get pushed down a single place to No.6 and No.7 respectively, but climbing a place to a new peak of No.8 is Chris Brown's "Beautiful People". Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" is down two places to No.9, whilst Rihanna hangs on for a second week at No.10 with "S&M", whilst her new single charges up the charts.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Flo Rida and Akon move up two places to a new peak of No.11 with "Who Dat Girl", setting it up for a possible Top 10 entry next week, whilst Dr. Dre and Eminem's "I Need a Doctor" holds it's No.12 peak for another week. Britney Spears continues her yo-yoing on the charts as "Till the World Ends" rebounds five places to a new peak of No.15, and Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" finally cracks the Top 20, moving up five places this week to No.17.

Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is up four places to a new peak of No.21, whilst her other current charting track "Someone Like You" is up nine places to No.38 giving her two Top 40 hits this week, plus two Top 40 albums, see below for more info. Wiz Khalifa is "Black and Yellow" at No.24 this week, up five places from last week, and riding her bed up the charts thirty-three places to No.28 is Rihanna with the fifth single from her "Loud" album (TW-17) entitled "California King Bed". With Good Charlotte in the country at the moment on their national tour, their latest single "Last Night" jumps up fifteen places to No.30, plus they re-enter at No.96 with their previous single "Sex on the Radio".

The Potbelleez new single "From the Music" leaps twenty-three places to No.32 to give the band their fourth Top 40 hit from six chart entries, and after a few weeks at the bottom end of the Top 50, We the Kings rebound fourteen places to No.34 with "Check Yes Juliet", and also score a new peak in the process. Marvin Priest climbs four places to a new peak of No.37 with "Own This Club". Lady Antebellum are in the country as guest support on Keith Urban's national tour, their song "Need You Now" re-enters the Top 50 again (last time was for their Grammy Awards), and they're up twenty-three places to No.39, whilst their album also hits new heights by entering the Top 10. Also re-entering the Top 50 due to a current tour (albeit a promo tour), is Tinie Tempah and Kelly Rowland's "Invincible", up twenty places to No.49.

Pussycat Dolls lead-singer Nicole Scherzinger makes her first solo ARIA Singles Chart entry by scoring the highest new entry at No.27 with her former UK No.1 single "Don't Hold Your Breath". She has previously charted as guest vocalist five Top 100 entries, with three of those going Top 20. "Come to Me" with P.Diddy (HP-11, peak Oct 2006), "Scream" with Timbaland and Keri Hilson (HP-20, peak March 2008) and with Enrique Iglesias on "Heartbeat" (HP-5, peak Nov 2010). It's the second single from her debut album "Killer Love", the prior one being "Poison" which failed to chart here.

Lower Top 50: With the new Foo Fighters album taking the top spot on the ARIA Albums chart this week, it gives another boost to the albums lead single "Rope", which is up four places to a new peak of No.55. Short Stack re-enter at No.74 with their latest single, "Heartbreak Made Me a Killer", instantly giving the song a new peak.

The third single from The Script's second album "Science & Faith" (TW-45) debuts at No.54 entitled "If You Ever Come Back". It becomes their seventh entry so far, and follows on from the albums first two singles “For the First Time” (HP-12 Aug 2010) and “Nothing” (HP-50, Jan 2011). Jennifer Lopez teams up with Lil' Wayne on her new track "I'm into You", which enters at No.56 this week, and is the second single from Jennifer’s forthcoming album “Love?” due April 29th.

Far East Movement score their third chart entry by debuting at No.63 with their new track "If I Was You (OMG)”, featuring Snoop Dogg as guest vocalist. And another RnB teaming debuts at No.89, New Boyz feat The Cataracts and Dev enter with "Backseat".

Albums

The seventh studio album for the Foo Fighters "Wasting Light" (and eighth entry overall) becomes their fifth No.1 album (four studio and the GH set) by debuting at the top this week, plus it’s their fifth consecutive No.1 album too, having placed their previous five releases at the top, “Greatest Hits” (Nov. 2009, TW up five to No.27), “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” (Oct. 2007), “In Your Honour” (June 2005) and “One by One” (Oct. 2002).

“Wasting Light” is the 630th No.1 album in Australia (1965-2011), and it’s also the 300th No.1 album by a group, whilst it’s also the 231st by an American Performer. It’s the first time that ‘Wasting’ has appeared in the title of a No.1 album, but it’s the fourth ‘Light’ to hit the top, previous albums have been “Ray of Light” for Madonna (March 1998), “Light Years” for Kylie Minogue (Oct. 2000), and “Desert Lights” by Something for Kate (July 2006). And with the Foo’s scoring their fifth No.1 album, it places them on equal seventh on the list of acts with ‘The Most No.1 Albums”. They are tied with six other acts who have all scored five albums; Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Silverchair, Metallica and Powderfinger.

Adele moves up to a new peak of No.2 with her album "21", plus her debut album "19" jumps twenty-four places to land at No.34 this week. Last weeks two high entries are both down this week, with k.d. Lang's "Sing it Loud" down a place to No.3, and last weeks No.1, "The Life of Riley" down three places to No.4, continuing the one-week-at-the-top with number one albums, the Foo Fighters are now the six consecutive No.1 debut also, but if they only stay a week, they’ll be the sixth single-week No.1 in a row.

Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban are touring the country at the moment, and Lady A's album "Need You Now" surpasses it's former No.12 peak (Sept 2010) by jumping eleven places to No.5 to score it's first week in the Top 10 during it's 42 accumulated weeks in the Top 100 (the album debuted on the charts back in Feb 2010, lasting a single week, before re-entering in May 2010). Keith's album "Get Closer" becomes the biggest leaping album of the week too, up fifty-one places to land back in the Top 20 at No.19, plus his "Greatest Hits: 18 Kids" is up twelve places to No.43.

Bruno Mars holds at No.6 with his "Doo-Wops and Hooligans" album, but jumping back into the Top 10 at No.7 on its one-year anniversary is Justin Beiber's "My Worlds", up eight places from last week. The album was last in the Top 10 in August 2010 after thirteen weeks in the T10, and with his upcoming tour, it could cement itself here until late May. Plus his album "Never Say Never-The Remixes" scores itself a new peak of No.16 (up fourteen places), helped by his current film of the same name in cinemas for the Easter School holidays.

"Glee: The Music Volume 5" takes its biggest tumble so far, dropping four places to No.9 this week, and down six places is the former No.1 album from three weeks ago, Britney's "Femme Fatale". Lastly the second new entry to the Top 10 this week is the eighth studio album (ninth entry including his GH set) for Ronan Keating, "When Ronan Met Burt", is an album of songs by songwriter Burt Bacharach, who also produced the album. It’s his sixth Top 10 album, and Ronan's previous chart entries are listed below...

The other soundtrack debuting this week is at No.64, and for the film "Tron: Legacy" by Daft Punk, but is a 'Reconfigured" edition of the December 2010 No.17 album, as the DVD is out in stores this coming week.

Motorhead have only ever charted five albums here in Australia between 1982 and 1991 (all on the AMR Charts), and this week they score their first ARIA Album charts entry, as their greatest hits set "Deaf Forever: The Best of" debuts at No.60.

Lower down we see new entries for Andre Rieu at No.85 with his latest album "Moonlight Serenade" (this will go up closer to Mothers Day no doubt). The third album for UK band Noah & The Whale debuts at No.86 entitled "Last Night on Earth", their first chart entry here.
