Britney will only get credit during the week/s when the remix sells more than the original.

"We may reconsider artist listings on a week-to-week basis and adjust accordingly, based on which version is a given week's top seller. A similar chart precedent even exists: for past listings of double-sided singles on the Hot 100, the first-listed titles could flip-flop based on which was the dominant selling side (based on retail reports) week-to-week."

Well that's even worse than just suddenly changing credits for good. So the S&M Remix will have a chart run of 1-out? Ridiculous. Make your mind up Billboard. Does Britney deserve a credit or not?

I still think that the credit should be given only if the new version is the dominant one in the long run.

This. In the UK charts the single version is always credited, so if people are buying e.g Cee Lo Green BLBC without Wiz Khalifa they still credit Wiz cos' he's on the single version. Britney doesn't deserve to be credited for one week and get a US Hot 100 number one out of it
