I was on the edge & this music video pushed me off...

The days of music videos such as Paparazzi & Bad Romance are truly over.

Get back to them videos Gaga, seriously. And once in a while do a Just Dance and a fun party song. Can't you just be more fun at times....

I'll still wait to see what Gaga has to say about this mess lol.

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

What on earth is she on? At the start of the video I was kinda loving it when she was walking down the street cos I expecting a load of dancers to join her and some kind of plot to slowly emerge but alas no. Doesn't really help when the song isn't that good though

and it says a lot when the interludes at her concert are more exciting than some of her music videos to date..

It's actually nothing more than a glossy Gimme More thinking about it. There's no direction, no hint of anything at all beyond here is your popstar doing some unchoreographed movement. At least the Gimme More video was entertainingly bad.

Exactly and at least Gimme More was an amazing song so the video didn't even have to be that good to really sell it (tough it unintentionally was)

Oh if you want defense of her/this video then you only need to read Tirren's spirited posts on Moopy! :D

Again, someone can't read at all. I haven't tried to defend the video at all, all I said was that there are some people who will claim anything she does is sub-par regardless of what she puts out? Point me to any one moment where I have said this video is great.

Anyway, as I've posted over on Moopy I have found one person who's defended it, and he is by no means a stan for Gaga who uncritically loves all she does:

After frantically blogging the new Lady Gaga video to satisfy the small minority of imbeciles on Twitter who couldn’t find it for themselves (I myself had to be aided by Tyron), I’ve now taken 5:28 out of my incredibly busy life to watch the damned thing.

I have to admit I was apprehensive about even watching this video when the hype started about it earlier this week - after the inane travesty that was the Alejandro video and the frankly ridiculous advertisement-infused homage to consumerism that was Telephone, I don’t know if I could handle Gaga ruining what has become my favourite single of hers to date.

When Lady Gaga chose The Edge of Glory as a promotional single, she had to choose wisely - Born This Way left a lot to be desired with such genius lyrics as “You’re Lebanese, you’re Orient!”, and Judas, although I love it 3 months down the line, took a long time to grow on me and hundreds of thousands of others. Luckily, TEOG was a triumph, and the rest as they say is history. (We’ll pretend Hair never happened)

The only thing that really could have spoiled the third single from the Born This Way album would have been a god-awful video - thankfully, Gaga’s not let us down.

The try-hard faux-political undertones of Alejandro are nowhere to be found, the loosely-offensive religious symbology of Judas left in April where they belong, and not a single Born This Way-style rapidly-reproducing Gagavagé in sight.

It’s just Gaga, circling a few fire hydrants, waltzing up and down a fire escape like a cross between Velma Kelly, Evelyn Salt and a gothic prostitute, chilling on some steps with an old black guy who used to knock about with Bruce Springsteen, and a distinctively Gaga-esque wiggle at 4:14. There’s also a nice leap-and-click of the heels at 4:04 which made me smile, but that’s neither here nor there.

Why the huge shift in video style from the last 5 videos to this one? Well, I guess nobody really knows.

Maybe she thinks the song speaks for itself and doesn’t need a video to sell it? Perhaps it’s supposed to be a welcome change to the massive thought-provoking extravaganzas to which we’ve become accustomed from Gaga - and for the most part are all starting to find induce a new level of pop-related tedium?

The video’s been out less than an hour and already I’m seeing a lot of criticism directed towards it, which I can only assume means people have forgotten what this song is actually about - the video hints at it enough.

In writing TEOG, Lady Gaga proved beyond any reasonable doubt that she isn’t a run-of-the-mill pop star; she’s an artist. In her own words:

"The song’s about your last moment on Earth, the moment of truth, the edge of glory is that moment right before you leave the Earth."

Who else would harness the emotion surrounding the death of their grandfather, lyricise it, throw a stomping dance beat behind it and enlist some saxophones to create a truly triumphant climax? The song is profoundly beautiful in its sublime simplicity, and the video is no different.

In this video, we see Gaga leap up and down the street - alone for the first time in any of her promos thus far - while also motionlessly singing to the heavens for brief periods and at one stage symbolically kissing the earth. If we remember that this isn’t a “pop video” - it’s a celebration of the fragility of life, the glory of death and the limbo in between - then it all makes perfect, simple sense.

A superbly apt accompaniment to what deserves to be remembered always as the greatest single of Lady Gaga’s career.

 I hope Jonas Akerlund does a re-shoot he does the best videos ever.
Well, more power to him! Care to copy and paste :D

I enjoy that Jark not taking you up on this is basically an admission that he's lying as ever ^_^

Lying? Wub emoticon? REALLY?

I haven't posted in this thread since then...

If you honestly are not 'for' this video Tirren then why bother raking up all this crap about Gaga having haters? I'm not going to type my lengthy argument from Moopy up on here as well but the Judas video is evidence enough that (a) Gaga can get a short-form music video spot on and (B) people will react well to it.

This is crapola.

I said that there were people who, despite requesting a 'basic standard pop video' and saying that was what was wrong with Born This Way, Judas etc., would attack this just as fervently, despite it being nothing if it isn't a 'basic standard pop video'. People by and large reacted well to Judas but there were still a sizeable amount of people who were all 'oh, whatever, this is just average' despite it being exactly the short form delight that they asked for. Saying this doesn't amount to me defending the video.

Then what was the purpose of you saying it in the first place?

You were implying that the negative reaction to the video was exaggerated on account of some anti-Gaga movement when actually the reaction was negative simply because the video doesn't hold up. That's the end of it.

I was saying the negative reaction from some quarters was hypocritical given there are a load of people who constantly complain about how every video from Gaga has to be 'an event' and that they just want a normal pop video. They got something that wasn't an event and was a normal pop video and they're screaming just as loud as they have done at everything else. I don't have to like the video to see when some people are being absolute hypocrites towards it - it's called objectivity, try it sometime.

I don't think I'm the one who needs to step back here.

Well you never were known to be discerning on such matters.

Now that's the crappiest way to visualize a fantastic song. What was that? When did all those interesting rumors die? GaGa jumping for 5 and a half minutes. WOW.
This video will trend, it's going to be one of the big videos by her because it's soo simple and the media is trending it.

Well you never were known to be discerning on such matters.

Says he who announced Judas to be the living breathing proverbial prophetical silicone-enhanced breasts when it premiered having already decided it was going to be the second coming!

I wasn't exactly keen on Born This Way (song) on first listen. What's your point? I had high expectations for Judas off the back of the reviews and the short clips that leaked that were pretty much met.

My point is that declaring that I lack objectivity when it comes to Gaga is random and absurd.

Now let's leave this alone already. Mud slinging is no fun at 3.42am.

To compare it to the levels of 'Gimme More' is kinda sad... considering Britney was in the midst of one of the biggest celebrity mental breakdowns in the history of pop culture. Atleast it kind of fit into the theme of people wanting MORE, and the purple colors were pretty.

This is Gaga's worst video to date. Probably the most boring music video I have ever watched... really upsetting since it's such an amazing song, if she wanted the simple route it could have been done much better.
