There's an extreme lack of imagination going on here. :D

 

Batidas finally decided to participate in the wonderful world of BJSC. We already selected the track that would represent us in our first contest; Agnes Obel with the sublime 'Riverside'. There had been only one other possible contender; The Sounds 'Better Off Dead' but we decided to go down by the riverside instead.

 

 

After qualifying in our semi final, it was over to Zagorasta for the BJSC XXXIII live final. We asked Agnes how she was coping with her last minute nerves just before performing. The reply? "i'm $h!tting myself". Such class!!! However, the performance went down a storm and as the results later that evening were drawing to a close the following happened...

 

And so, it's only natural for me to announce the Kopeček douze, which goes to a nation who simply astounded us this time around. We never thought we'd love this as much as we did - but it only seems appropriate that we give them the 12, especially after their performance tonight.

 

So, without further ado, giving them their sixth 12...AGNES OBEL of BATIDAS!

 

Congratulations! Batidas become the second nation ever to win on their true debut, Lievant keep third and Numayania goes top ten!

Agnes Obel had nothing to worry about as her track stole the show albeit in a close fought fight to the end. Chryss Topfér, president of Batidas, said of their winning result "This is an excellent achievement for Batidas. We really should've entered sooner, it's been so much fun".

Batidas have successfully made it through to the live final of BJFestivalen after qualifying in Deltävling 2 with 'Dlya Tebya' performed by Ani Lorak, representing the country for her first time. BJFestivalen - Grande Finalen is to be broadcast live on Channel B at 19:00 (BST) on Friday 13th May. We're not usually superstitious but...Friday 13th? Oh!!! :(

BJSC XXXIV - It's Coming...

 

 

Following on from our success at BJSC XXXIII, it means Batidas have the honours of hosting the upcoming BJSC XXXIV. More details will follow in due course. In the meantime, a promotional teaser has already started airing on Channel B and can now be viewed exclusively on YouTube. It's crap but it gets to the point!!! :P

Batidas have finished 8th in the BJFestivalen contest. We're not too disappointed as it was clear from the other entries that something slightly more "indie" was going to triumph and sure enough that was exactly the end result.

 

We still want to congratulate Ani Lorak for successfully making it through to the final.

 

BJSC XXXIV Confirmation thread will be posted Sunday 15th May (as I'm not going to be around at all tomorrow). The shows will be held at the Batidome in Colpi Golpes. Organisers of the event are looking forward to hosting BJSC XXXIV saying its an honour to be involved.

Batidas opened the semi final voting thread last night as 40 nations will be whittled down to 28 in the live final. We have drawn 18th in Semi Final 1. Which brings us to our entry; SX 'Black Video'. Not one for going "cheap" or sending something that screams "safe", we've decided to enter a more risky entry.

 

Why 'Black Video'? Because I find it strangely captivating. Whether other nations will appreciate and share these feelings is left to be seen. We didn't want to send 'Riverside Pt II'.

The BJSC XXXIV final took place at the infamous Batidome in Colpi Golpez and Batidas got a respectable top 10 finish. We'd like to once again congratulate Herzebania on their extremely close victory - it really was down to the wire between them and Utopia.

 

Batidas are now in the process of choosing our next entry for the upcoming BJSC XXXV and we're already excited. :w00t:

The identity of Batidas' entry into BJSC XXXV has been revealed. This time it's the turn of New Zealand born folk/pop singer Brooke Fraser who will be representing Batidas with her hit single 'Something In The Water'.

This thread is like a Batidas diary showing how we progress in each contest. So it's takes a "newspaper cuttings" style which makes mine different to everyone elses (hence the overuse of quotes :P ) - but because it's you Pavel...

 

Batidas have been confirmed as 4th place in BJSC XXXV after a technical problem led to several nations being ranked incorrectly after Sunday nights results show had concluded. Agnes Obel, who attended the ceremony and announced the Batidas jury votes, said "Hahaha, you're joking right? What a complete shambles but I'm happy for Brooke"

But srsly, 1-9-4 is a massive result for a new country. Rarely these things happen (Bokia, Hendinia, Mdice and Nonsuch all debuted with 3 Top 10's in a row AT LEAST).

At least you have to admit I've improved in terms of what I enter. 'Britney' from my first UP here last year was admittedly a poor song choice and I purely went for the "Notso Hampson liked this in 2008" approach and it rightfully backfired. :lol:

 

Hopefully I'll continue to keep my reputation as a successful debut nation by entering decent tracks in each contest. Then again, I guess I can't always be top 10...or can I? :o

The act representing Batidas in BJSC XXXVI is Andain but who exactly are Andain?

 

"Andain is a San Francisco-based duo with a musical approach at electronic music. Their style incorporates a blend of acoustic instrumentation, blissful vocals, and introspective lyrics, companioned by dark electronic elements and sound design. Band members initially included producer Josh Gabriel, singer and songwriter Mavie Marcos, and guitarist David Penner. Current members are Mavie and Josh only."

 

Batidas were initially undecided which version of 'Promises' to enter. In the end we chose the original album version.

Batidas keep up an incredible run of form with their second consecutive 4th place and fourth top ten hit in a row whilst Kluminican Republic just edge out over Bignia-Zaragovina for 5th place having attracted more voters, and again, it's another new personal best there so congratulations to them! Indeed Semi 1 did dominate in the end, with four of the top five coming from there although as did five of the bottom eight implying that although Semi 1 had more highlights, Semi 2 was more consistent overall.

 

The BJSC XXXVI final took place at the Royal Rontese Palladium in Klurren, FSR Rontvia last night and The Daily Hits are happy to report that Batidas finished 4th in the contest. It's an extremely successful start to the Batidian track record with four consecutive top 10 finishes since our debut in April. Hendinia and Mdiče are the only other BJSC nations who have recorded four top 10 finished upon their debut into the contest.

 

Batidas will be trying to break this record by becoming the first BJSC nation to score a record five top 10 finishes. Firstly, we need to select our next entry that could potentially put Batidas into the BJSC record books. :D

21. Batidas: Gotye featuring Kimbra - Someone That I Used To Know

 

Batidas have been drawn 21st in the SF1 stage of BJSC XXXVII. For the first time, we've decided to allow a male singer to take center stage (albeit with a female vocalist to duet with). So Batidas introduce Gotye featuring Kimbra who will be representing our nation with their single 'Somebody That I Used To Know' much to the displeasure of some other nations... :drama:

 

If it's from Aussie iTunes I bet I know what it is :lol:

 

It is not that horrible song that is number one on iTunes.

 

I've heard the Gotye song but it doesn't do anything for me, unexpected #1 though!

 

However, we at Batidas Empires have been satisfied to see differing opinions like this:

 

Also good to see Goyte/Kimbra number 1 in the singles, something different!

The Australians love it. The Belgians love it. Even the Dutch and New Zealanders are loving it. Now the Batidians are also loving it. We’re hoping that the widespread love for 'Somebody That I Used To Know' will slowly creep up on our fellow BJSC nations.

 

It’s definitely a grower and this track should NOT be judged from one half arsed listen.

 

That comment was made before it properly grew on me! I was actually going to chart it next time around :P

 

May I remind you that I publicly on this forum rated Lena's Satellite as a 7.5/10 on the first listen. It later topped my 2010 EOY chart after spending 9 weeks at #1...
