Posted May 10, 201114 yr Did anybody see "The Secret History of Eurovision" that was on RTE and More4 recently? I thought it was an interesting and fascinating programme.
May 10, 201114 yr Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting to see how Eurovision tied in with historic events across Europe, but it did drag quite a bit.
May 10, 201114 yr I caught up with it the other night on 4 player or whatever it's called  Decent enough and it was interesting to put various Eurovisions, trends and winners into a wider social and historical context, but at the same time some of the things that were being suggested were a little far fetched. I wonder what the perspectives forum would have made of it - 'Eurovision brings down Berlin Wall :cheer:'
May 10, 201114 yr I enjoyed the implication that the Prague Uprising was caused by Czech anger at their inability to watch that year's Eurovision.
May 10, 201114 yr I enjoyed the implication that the Prague Uprising was caused by Czech anger at their inability to watch that year's Eurovision. Me too  It was a good show but some of the claims about the early years were frankly RIDICULOUS.
May 10, 201114 yr I think the corrolation between politics and Eurovision was, at times, intentionally tongue-in-cheek but it was good telly. It makes you realise what an unusual phenomenom Eurovision is; I love it despite thinking half of the songs are ear-rape, even at the best of times! Edited May 10, 201114 yr by ScottyEm
