Hey Ghosty - my comments :D Eurovision domination!

 

01 (01) Kati Wolf ~ What About My Dreams ~ 9 [16-7-4-3-3-2-1-1-1] This is definitely 'the best of the rest' for me behind my ultimate five favourites, I hope it makes it out of the semi and I see no reason why it shouldn't in all honesty. Might finally break into my top 20 this week! :lol:

07 (12) Nadine Beiler ~ The Secret Is Love ~ 4 [36-20-12-7] :wub: Excellent to see this reach your top ten!

13 (17) Lena ~ Taken By A Stranger ~ 13 [5-3-1-3-4-6-7-9-16-12-13-17-13] I've suddenly started to get back into this! Hope it can go top ten for her at least

22 (34) Christine Guldbrandsen ~ Break My Chains ~ 2 [34-22] Listening to this now for the first time...quite dated production/sound but I like it! Sort of reminds me of the song that Greece should have sent to Eurovision this year, The Time Is Now :lol:

Yes, and a much bigger domination than in the past few years! It really does reflect how bad the current music scene is in the UK.

 

01 - Fingers crossed. Like I said in your thread, the performance is lacking somewhat, but hopefully the Eurofans will vote for it!

07 - It is wonderful. I really hope it makes the final. The juries tend to favour the more worthy songs, and this should easily make the top 5 on the jury vote.

13 - Same, although I do much prefer the album version. I hope it goes top 10 also.

22 - It does have a similar feel. The start of the song sounds almost exactly the same as Vardlokk though :lol:

27 - I know :( . A lot of my favourite non-esc songs are flying down the chart purely because I haven't played anything but Eurovision this week :lol:

37 - It is pretty great! Bizarrely, it reminds me of a Bucks Fizz track called London Town :lol:

49 - Yeah, it wouldn't do well in BJSC I don't think. It's a superb ballad, but it takes a while to get into it.

52-57 - Sorry! :lol: . My chart in Eurovision season wouldn't be the same without a couple of questionable songs entering though :heehee:

Indeed, it's dominating my chart far more this year too - only 4 entries in my top ten pre-final but that's a marked improvement on 1 last year (Satellite naturally) :lol:

27. Oh dear :lol: I've put all 43 Eurovision songs onto my 'current playlist' which includes my entire current chart, possible future entries and other bits and pieces, and is currently a 196 song playlist - and that's all I've been listening to this week!

52-57 - Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Italy, Moldova and France. Some of those may make it next week. I just can't get into Sognu at all :(

So the first Eurovision semi final is tonight? Not sure if this is part of the 1st or 2nd but I do hope this qualifies for the final as it's still one of my faves.

Like all great novelty songs, they get boring after a while. It's never been a major fave of mine but it's good for what it is. I'm sure this will qualify but I'm not the biggest fan.

This just didn't stand out as "winner" when I first heard it. I had this ranked 13th in my first ever rating of the Eurovision entries - it's climbed since as a couple of others have gone down in my estimates.

It's been so long since my rates were posted that I can't even remember how this goes (not a good sign? :D ). I regarded this as average according to what I posted.

From 'Diva' to 'Ding Dong'; how the mighty have fallen. No, I'm not a fan of this. :(

 

07 (12) Nadine Beiler ~ The Secret Is Love ~ 4 [36-20-12-7]

 

Usually when songs start acapella, they can be often be quite pitchy and unplesant on the ears. Step forward Norway's entry from last year. :P Even if the vocals are strong and soaring in the last 30 seconds, the first minute alone can way outweigh just how the overall performance is. However, I did regard this as Ok but I'm unsure if this will qualify.

 

08 (07) Blue ~ I Can ~ 9 [24-25-22-23-19-10-7-7-8]

 

Already entered my chart due to the record company somehow releasing the track before the contest. :drama: We finally have a Eurovision entry that even the record company is proud of. :D

Liked it a lot at first but have since found myself getting bored of it. However, it's still miles better than the majority of this years entries.

Oh!!! :( I had this down as second from bottom. It was based on a live performance I watched on YouTube and thought the song and vocals were really bad. Never heard a studio version of this so maybe they've changed it since two months ago. Plus, it's Spain so it'll automatically be in the final.

Three highlights for me although there still seems to be some uncertainty surrounding TWiiNS and whether they can pull off a decent live vocal. I still like the song a lot though and it's been one of my biggest growers - that said, I've not actually listened to any of these songs for about 4 weeks. :lol:

With their BJSC XXXIII glory all over, I guess the evitable plummet was always going to happen. This came so close to getting points off me but it ended up finishing 11th for me overall. :(

 

31 (42) Lady GaGa ~ Judas ~ 3 [34-42-31]

 

Even the video hasn't helped change my opinion of this song. I'm already eager to hear this track that's been released to iTunes. For me, this era is not going well at all. Whether that's down to the record company and their terrible timing of everything, I'm not sure. I hope Lady GaGa releases at least one single this era that could make a decent impact on my chart. I said in 2009 that Lady GaGa was the new Madonna and that she would be around for a long time. The tracks so far have been semi-underwhelming. :(

:wub: So great to see Batidas' BJFestivalen entry making your chart. I never wanted to post my honest opinion during BJSC XXXIII because it might've across as arrogant but... :o ...I genuinely thought 'Riverside' was one of the best songs in the contest. :ph34r: Even after hearing all the songs in the final, there wasn't one other song (well, maybe 'Mr. Saxobeat' :lol: ) that I liked more than my own entry. However, this time it's not the same - I've yet to vote but already suspect Batidas won't win. Still unsure who will because there's quite a few indie/alternative tracks getting through which has surprised me (I expected BJFestivalen to be as pure pop as BJSC itself).

This has been quite the grower. When I first heard this, I didn't know if I liked it or not. I just felt kinda empty and didn't have an opinion on the song. Then after the music video started getting more airplay, I found myself hearing the song more. Thus with the extra times hearing the track, I slowly started to like this more. Now it's entered my chart at #24.

52-57 - Yeah, fair enough :kink: . I agree about the rest of the top 5 being better winners, but also Euroband, Charlotte Perrelli, Olta Boka, Morena, Deep Zone, Jelena Tomasevic and loads more would have been brilliant winners!

Like all great novelty songs, they get boring after a while. It's never been a major fave of mine but it's good for what it is. I'm sure this will qualify but I'm not the biggest fan.

This just didn't stand out as "winner" when I first heard it. I had this ranked 13th in my first ever rating of the Eurovision entries - it's climbed since as a couple of others have gone down in my estimates.

 

04 (04) Maja Keuc ~ No One/Vanilija ~ 7 [24-14-5-8-5-4-4]

 

It's been so long since my rates were posted that I can't even remember how this goes (not a good sign? :D ). I regarded this as average according to what I posted.

 

06 (09) Dana International ~ Ding Dong ~ 5 [38-27-19-9-6]

 

From 'Diva' to 'Ding Dong'; how the mighty have fallen. No, I'm not a fan of this. :(

 

07 (12) Nadine Beiler ~ The Secret Is Love ~ 4 [36-20-12-7]

 

Usually when songs start acapella, they can be often be quite pitchy and unplesant on the ears. Step forward Norway's entry from last year. :P Even if the vocals are strong and soaring in the last 30 seconds, the first minute alone can way outweigh just how the overall performance is. However, I did regard this as Ok but I'm unsure if this will qualify.

 

08 (07) Blue ~ I Can ~ 9 [24-25-22-23-19-10-7-7-8]

 

Already entered my chart due to the record company somehow releasing the track before the contest. :drama: We finally have a Eurovision entry that even the record company is proud of. :D

 

09 (10) Eric Saade ~ Popular ~ 12 [16-12-5-3-3-3-5-7-6-9-10-9]

 

Liked it a lot at first but have since found myself getting bored of it. However, it's still miles better than the majority of this years entries.

 

10 (11) Lucía Pérez ~ Que Me Quiten Lo Bailao ~ 5 [11-7-12-11-10]

 

Oh!!! :( I had this down as second from bottom. It was based on a live performance I watched on YouTube and thought the song and vocals were really bad. Never heard a studio version of this so maybe they've changed it since two months ago. Plus, it's Spain so it'll automatically be in the final.

Three highlights for me although there still seems to be some uncertainty surrounding TWiiNS and whether they can pull off a decent live vocal. I still like the song a lot though and it's been one of my biggest growers - that said, I've not actually listened to any of these songs for about 4 weeks. :lol:

 

27 (06) Katzenjammer ~ Lady Marlene ~ 5 [1-1-2-6-27]

 

With their BJSC XXXIII glory all over, I guess the evitable plummet was always going to happen. This came so close to getting points off me but it ended up finishing 11th for me overall. :(

 

31 (42) Lady GaGa ~ Judas ~ 3 [34-42-31]

 

Even the video hasn't helped change my opinion of this song. I'm already eager to hear this track that's been released to iTunes. For me, this era is not going well at all. Whether that's down to the record company and their terrible timing of everything, I'm not sure. I hope Lady GaGa releases at least one single this era that could make a decent impact on my chart. I said in 2009 that Lady GaGa was the new Madonna and that she would be around for a long time. The tracks so far have been semi-underwhelming. :(

 

37 (**) Ani Lorak ~ Dlya Tebya ~ 1 [37]

 

:wub: So great to see Batidas' BJFestivalen entry making your chart. I never wanted to post my honest opinion during BJSC XXXIII because it might've across as arrogant but... :o ...I genuinely thought 'Riverside' was one of the best songs in the contest. :ph34r: Even after hearing all the songs in the final, there wasn't one other song (well, maybe 'Mr. Saxobeat' :lol: ) that I liked more than my own entry. However, this time it's not the same - I've yet to vote but already suspect Batidas won't win. Still unsure who will because there's quite a few indie/alternative tracks getting through which has surprised me (I expected BJFestivalen to be as pure pop as BJSC itself).

 

40 (**) Birdy ~ Skinny Love ~ 1 [40]

 

This has been quite the grower. When I first heard this, I didn't know if I liked it or not. I just felt kinda empty and didn't have an opinion on the song. Then after the music video started getting more airplay, I found myself hearing the song more. Thus with the extra times hearing the track, I slowly started to like this more. Now it's entered my chart at #24.

01 & 02 - Yep, first semi tonight and both Hungary and Norway are in it! Fingers crossed both can qualify!

03 - With a good draw and a huge cheer from the crowd, it might just do it, but I think about 5th place will be it's final position.

04 - It needs the visuals to make an imprint. Sadly she's ditched the black dress from the National final in favour of silver, which doesn't really work with this song. I am still hopeful of it qualifying though.

06 - It certainly isn't as good as Diva, but I do like Ding Dong!

07 - She's a competent singer, so hopefully it'll qualify. The jury will have to get truly behind it though as this won't pick up points on televoting.

08 - It's a brilliant song, but their staging is tragic :(

09 - I feel the same. The music is great, but the lyrics let it down.

10 - I love it! Such a fun number! :D

 

TWiiNS and Daria will probably struggle to make the final, but Azerbaijan will definitely make it.

 

27 - The Eurovision tide has brought this down a lot, but it is still a huge favourite of mine!

31 - Yeah, it's certainly looking like she's had her day already! Judas is growing on me though, and the new song is also pretty good, just not as amazing as everyone's making out it is.

37 - The results of BJFest have left me completely baffled so far tbh, I mean Jovana Nikolic coming LAST in her heat was very undeserved if I do say so myself :lol: . Dyla Tebya is a very good song though, so I'm glad that made the final!

40 - It is quite nice, but her voice is a little irritating I find.

52-57 - Yeah, fair enough :kink: . I agree about the rest of the top 5 being better winners, but also Euroband, Charlotte Perrelli, Olta Boka, Morena, Deep Zone, Jelena Tomasevic and loads more would have been brilliant winners!

 

Indeed, 2008 wasn't that bad a year at all thinking back, it just seems a little bit worse in my mind because of the underwhelming winner...all of those that you mentioned were so underrated, Euroband, Charlotte and Deep Zone in particular :(
