And although Live Aid itself was a good and honourable thing and raised lots of money, the effect it had on music in the mid 80s was terrible in that it allowed a batch of old farts such as Collins and Clapton and their ilk to seize control of pop and turn it into blandness. Although a direct effect of this was to turn me onto indie and all the tremendous mid-80s indie records that I still cherish and adore. 15.
