10. It Must Have Been Love- Roxette

UK No.3 (1990)

This is the theme song to the Julia Roberts/Richard Gere Romantic Comedy classic "Pretty Woman" and became the Swedish duos' third number one hit in the US but had to settle for a respectable number three here in the UK. It returned to the UK Chart in 1993 after "Pretty Woman" had premiered on UK Terrestrial TV and re-entered the Top 10. The song remains to this day their biggest hit and a radio favourite.

09. Boom Boom Boom Boom!!- Vengaboys

UK No.1 (1999)

This was the Vengaboys' first number one and biggest-seller, it is the 87th biggest-selling single of the decade. The video was particularly sexually provocative and received alot of airplay on MTV and other music channels. Last year the band released their first single in nine years in their home country the Netherlands called "Rocket to Uranus", it featured Pete Burns and Perez Hilton and just missed out on the countrys' Top 20 reaching number 21.

08. Believe- Cher

UK No.1 (1998)

"Believe" reached the top spot in an incredible 23 countries and when it reached the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 Cher become the oldest female artist to perform the feat, she was 52 at the time. It is her biggest-selling single ever shifting over 10 million copies Worldwide and is still the biggest-selling single by a female artist in the UK and was the 3rd biggest-selling single of the decade. The song is noted for its deliberately bare-faced use of the Auto-Tune pitch-correction software on her vocals to create a peculiar sound effect, it won the "Best Dance Recording" award at the 2000 Grammy Awards.

07. I'll Be Missing You- Puff Daddy & Faith Evans feat. 112

UK No.1 (1997)

"I'll Be Missing You" sampled the melody of The Polices' 1983 number one hit, "Every Breath You Take" and was dedicated to Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy was a close friend and Faith Evans was his widow. The song also featured harmonies from the R&B boy band 112. It became a monster hit in the UK where it was certified Double Platinum for selling over 1.2 million copies becoming the 8th biggest-seller of the 90s, it was also a massive success in the US where it stayed at the top of the Hot 100 for 11 weeks which was the longest for a hip-hop song at the time.

06. I Want It That Way- Backstreet Boys

UK No1. (1999)

This became Backstreet Boys' first and only UK number one and reached the top spot in over 25 other countries but could only reach a modest peak of number six on the US Hot 100, it is probably the most recognised song ever recorded by a boyband. The video was parodied by Blink 182 who spoofed it for their "All The Small Things" video.

05. Baby One More Time- Britney Spears

UK No.1 (1999)

The song that introduced us to the one and only Britney Spears was an absolute monster hit reaching number one in every single country it charted in. It would be her only US Chart topper until "Womanzier" hit the top spot in 2008 whereas in the UK she had four other number ones. The video is famous for showcasing Britney Spears as a good Catholic school girl gone bad which caused some controversy. It went on to become the 6th biggest-seller of the 90s.

04. Crazy For You- Let Loose

UK No.2 (1994)

"Crazy For You" was originally released in 1993 but only managed to reach number 44. The song was re-released the following year and became the boybands' biggest hit reaching number two for two weeks on the UK Chart during the Summer of 1994, it was kept off the top spot by Wet Wet Wets' 15-week chart topper "Love Is All Around". The band went on to have four other Top 20 hits and disbanded in 1996.

03. You Get What You Give- The New Radicals

UK No.5 (1999)

This is an absolute anthem and I love it! It entered the UK Chart at number five which would became its peak but could only manage to reach number 36 on the US Hot 100. Sadly it was to be the bands' only hit as lead singer Gregg Alexander disbanded the band just a few months after this single was released because he was tired of touring and doing promotional interviews. He has gone on to write songs for the likes of Enrique Iglesias, Ronan Keating and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

02. To The Moon & Back- Savage Garden

UK No.3 (1998)

This amazing track was originally released in the UK in 1997 but failed to make the Top 40, the following year it was re-released after the massive success of "Truly Madly Deeply" and became the duos' highest-peaking UK hit reaching number three, in the US it became one of their lowest-peaking singles reaching number 24 on the Hot 100. The band split in 2001 and Darren Hayes has sadly stated that there will be no reunion, Darren has gone on to have seven Top 20 hits in the UK and Daniel Jones has his own record label.

01. Stay- Shakespears Sister

UK No.1 (1992)

This epic tune is the longest-running UK number one by any girl group or duo staying at the top for eight consecutive weeks. The famous video which won the "Best Video" award at the 1993 BRIT Awards sees band member Marcella Detroit on a spaceship caring for her comatose lover, in comes Siobhan (Bananarama) Fahey as the Angel of Death who wants to take him to the other side, in the end he comes back to life. It was the girls' biggest hit and even more successful than any of Siobhans' many Bananarama hits. In 1993 the band were nominated and won the Ivor Novello Award for "Best Album" and it was here that Marcella found out that Siobhan was splitting the band up, Marcy was devastated but not entirely all surprised as tensions had started since "Stay" reached number one. Siobhan did not feel that the song represented Shakespears Sister and when it became their biggest hit, with Marcy having lead vocals on the track, she wasn’t all that happy. They haven't seen each other in 18 years but have occasionally exchanged e-mails, here's hoping for a reunion one day. The song returned to the charts last year when Cher Lloyd performed the track on "The X Factor" it immediately made the iTunes Top 10 and eventually reached number 12 on the Official UK Chart and the Top 10 of the Irish Singles Chart.

Stay and It Must have Been Love are the best of your Top 10. I love both.
That's a fantastic top five! All are 9/10 or 10/10 moments for me, Crazy For You is a bit unfairly forgotten by many, it's a great pop song. Likewise To The Moon & Back which gets snubbed in favour of Truly Madly Deeply but I think is better. The other three are classics.

I loved the period from around 1993 onwards. My fave music from that time was the Techno, Trance & Hardcore.

Acts such as:

2 Unlimited, U96, Scooter, 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor, Captain Hollywood, Captain Jack, Sqeezer, Blumchen, Marusha, Culture Beat, Dune, Brooklyn Bounce, Westbam, Imperio, Intermission, Jam & Spoon & many more.

  • 3 weeks later...

I love that game. One of the main reasons I love it so much is...

"I cant use these things together"

"Thats nice sam."
