Tonight's a very exciting night for us at Beyoncé Headquarters, and we're sure it will be for you too once you learn what's in store!

 

First things first, the rumors are true: American Idol has gone Beyoncé-crazy! Last week they premiered the "Run The World (Girls)" music video and this week (on the season finale, no less) Beyoncé will premiere a new song from "4". The song is called "1+1" and Beyoncé will perform it live on air. American Idol starts at 8/7c, which means if you're on the east coast, it starts now! Be sure to tune in, but first be sure to tell everyone you know.

 

That's not all. At 8PM ET tonight (at the start of American Idol), iTunes will begin taking pre-orders for "4" in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. Everyone that pre-orders the album from iTunes in these countries will automatically receive an instant download of "1+1" with their pre-order.

I admit I've never thought much of Beyoncé. Very charismatic (though st the same time, cold) frontwoman with a couple of good songs and a couple of rubbish ones. I've never wished badly on her, never praying for her to do well either. I'm pretty much sat on the fence.

 

With all the above in mind I have to say, this era has had one of the POOREST most STINKY beginnings of any major artist with a major project in any time I can remember. 'Run the World' flopped because it was tuneless dirge that appealed to no-one other than her chief fanciers. Her label quickly send out a follow-up single which is as equally if not even poorer than the lead. It's shockingly bad. The lack of structure or focus from '1+1'. The hideous vocal juxtaposed with the bare bones production would work if there was some sort of emotion, melody, JUST SOMETHING. It's all so grandiose and self-indulgent but collapses under its own weight of self-importance.

 

Who is making the decisions here? How can you record 72 songs and these are the ones you choose to promote the album? WTF?

This isn't a single, it's an album track that you can download once you've pre-ordered the album. And it's gorgeous, I'm really surprised you dislike it!

Fair enough if it's not the next single but it still opens the album and is essentially the second tool of promotion for this album (based on these two facts I'd bet it's her label testing for reaction as to whether it should be second single much in the same way Interscope did with 'Edge of Glory' for GaGa'). It's just no good if she's plumping for a major audience.

Because it's stunning. I've seen masses of reviews so far and you're the first person to dislike it.

Meh. It's not awful like 'Run The World' is but still, it sounds like a rejected demo. I definitely agree with Jake, this whole thing is turning into a huge mess what with the two songs I've heard of it and that album cover which is shambolic to say the least.

 

It annoys me, the girl is obviously super talented and it's a shame she sometimes has to waste it like this. :(

Apparently they've decided to release it as the second single now. I doubt this will do well tbh. Ahh well. I'm just excited for the album, so far I've loved what I've heard. And her performance on American Idol was flawless. I'll post it in the morning, if someone else hasn't posted it first.

I actually quite like it - not sure about it being second single though? I agree with Jake that this project has been handled badly I have to admit. I'm one of the few (it seems!) that loves 'Run the World (Girls)' and I've never been a big Beyonce fan really, but it was a very risky first single. Surely when seeing the underperformance of said single though, the label would want to release a sure-fire hit as single #2? Sadly this isn't that...

It is a good song, which is sung very well by Beyoncé, but it's not a good choice for next single at all. I agree with what Cremey said about the label should be putting out a "sure-fire hit", instead of just pleasing the fans with these single choices. I'm still looking forward to the album though, and hopefully there's something that will be a WW #1 on there.

I agree with you all too. I think the era has been very poorly handled and "1+1" will not be a hit, despite how much I adore it. I think that all the singles are going to flop this era, but the album will hopefully do quite well. Anyway, American Idol performance:

 

I really like it (though I'm inclined to agree that this era is being poorly handled and this is not a good choice of single), I actually rather adored 'Run The World' aswell and I have to say I'm properly looking forward to the album based on everything I've heard. '1+1' is rather gorgeous imo.

Confirmed as a promotional single in the US for the album, like Lady GaGa's song, "Hair".

This is a big improvement on 'Run The World (Girls)' for me, amazing song. :wub: Not the best choice for a second single though, hopefully they stick to it just being a promotional single.

This isn't material for second single. Especially if the first single wasn't successful. It's nice, love the last part (the instrumental in the end is great) but not for single. So hopefully they will just leave it as a promotional.

I always find it strange when people say things like that, completely discredits an artists back catalogue to suggest something is better after less than 24 hours. This is really quite dreadful and I was genuinely looking forward to the album seeing how she's worked with Sleigh Bells/Switch etc.

I've listened to absolutely everything she's ever released, and I've never liked another of her songs as much as I love "1+1", so I don't see what is so strange by saying that.
