May 27, 201114 yr Author For albums, I tend to prefer physical copies, unless they come in flimsy cardboard covers, in which case I generally download instead. For Singles, almost invariably downloads, except for Kylie.
May 27, 201114 yr Both - downloads because I don't have to go to the shops and I can buy in my own home and listen straight away. Plus, it's impossible to find physicals for songs I love atm such as LMFAO 'PRA' which is download only (I assume) Having said that I would never download a Now album as it's usually overpriced on iTunes (they've only just started to have them at the same price as in the shops now iirc) Edited May 27, 201114 yr by danielMFAO
May 27, 201114 yr Author Physical for both, I just prefer to have it in my hand and for it to be permanent. I hope that's not a double entendre...
May 27, 201114 yr For singles: downloads (no sense of physicals nowadays anymore imo) for albums: physicals, but that depends on the artist, or how "desperately" I want that album.
May 27, 201114 yr Physicals for both, assuming there is a physical for the single which in almost every case there still is for things I want to buy. I will happily download it if there isn't, but I would rather actually have a tangable object for my money, as opposed to a file on a computer, which is no different to something I could get for free, albeit ilegally.
May 27, 201114 yr Author I wonder if there's also a difference in preference depending on the age of the poster, too? When I bought my first record, it was before CD's were out, let alone downloads... :P I mostly bought vinyl, but occasionally cassette. Edited May 27, 201114 yr by vidcapper
May 27, 201114 yr Downloads for singles, though I might see if I can pick up a promo somtimes, or get the physical if it's an artist I collect like Hurts. Physical CDs for albums, though if a vinyl is available I often will buy that and then download it too  It's all about the artwork for me.
May 27, 201114 yr Prefer to buy physically: this is because the quality is so much better than the download, and it means I can play it on my stereo which has better sound than my MP3 sound system. I also quite like to have the artwork, and a wall of CDs to browse through ( a record collection!) That said I now prefer to buy singles on download as it is so much cheaper - albums though aren't much cheaper and definitely not worth it IMO. Though I do end up ripping everything onto MP3 for backup and because it's easier to listen to on the move. :P Edited May 27, 201114 yr by Doctor Blind
May 27, 201114 yr Downloads - cheaper, better quality, easier to store, easier to back up.... Dunno about the better quality??? Can an mp3 ever be better than a CD?
May 27, 201114 yr Without a doubt Downloads for singles, and Physicals for albums. :) Dunno about the better quality??? Can an mp3 ever be better than a CD? He may mean because CD's can get easily scratched and dusty? And are easily breakable? Downloads do make more sense really, but something nice about having a physical copy of an album. :) Edited May 27, 201114 yr by Karma
May 27, 201114 yr Still prefer CD albums but love the instancy of downloads for tracks. I still like having that physical copy of a CD album for the booklet etc. Also, you can generally get the CD for around the same price or cheaper than a download. Plus you don't need to worry about losing a computer file or your hard drive knackering. Edited May 27, 201114 yr by RPM
May 27, 201114 yr Dunno about the better quality??? Can an mp3 ever be better than a CD? I think they certainly can be, certainly purchased ones anyway. Although quality doesn't make that much difference anyway, you have to have a decent system to play it out of anyway, and my laptop is better than my stereo....
May 27, 201114 yr Also, you can generally get the CD for around the same price or cheaper than a download. Plus you don't need to worry about losing a computer file or your hard drive knackering. This is why I always buy albums from 7Digital. At least 75% of albums are £5 on their release week, and once you've downloaded something you can download it again whenever/wherever you like...
May 27, 201114 yr Dunno about the better quality??? Can an mp3 ever be better than a CD? Not really, no. If you can't tell the difference, your speakers/headphones aren't very good quality. CD bitrate is ~1400kbps MP3 bitrate (iTunes/Amazon) is 256kbps
May 27, 201114 yr For singles it is neither. I never buy singles nor do I (illegally) download it. I just listen to it on YT. For albums it is definitely physical. I have never ever legally downloaded anything actually. If I were to spend money on a CD I want something I can actually touch.
