17 - Kylie Minogue "I Should Feel So Lucky" (1988) (+36)

 

Kylie is one of the best breakthroughs of all time, spending 5 weeks at number one with her debut single (this) and following up with 3 number 2 hits in the same year (1988) and then getting to number one with Jason Donovan the next year as well as a number one hit of her own.

 

This is love or hate here. So, I'm pleased it made top 20.

 

Surprised It's a sin is the biggest PSB song in this game. :o

 

2 Madonna songs in the top 10 is too much. Into the groove doesnt deserve to be that high.

 

Hopefully A-Ha will be top 5. Im not that sure though.

It's my favourite - I think it could be an outsider for the number one here.

 

Obviously hoping for Billie Jean to win as I gave my 15 to that, but I think it might end up outside the top 5. Pretty decent top 10 apart from ABBA and Belinda. (And I'm not sure I've heard the Blondie song)

 

EDIT: Okay, I have heard the Blondie song. That's the one with the terrible lyrics.

09 - Belinda Carlisle "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" (1988) (+52)

This was Belinda's debut and biggest hit. She never got another number one, but had 6 more T10 hits.

 

08 - A-ha "The Sun Always Shines On TV" (1986) (+59)

This was the second hit for A-ha. Despite this getting to number one, their debut number two hit 'Take On Me' is more remembered and had more weeks on the chart.

This was number one in Xmas 81' and sold over a million copies. It's the 25th best selling song of all time! This song was the third T10 hit for The Human League out of eight.

The last appearance of the Pet Shoppers, they just missed the top 5 here (well, they didn't just miss it, as there is a large points diff between 5 and 6 as you'll see shortly). It's A Sin is their second biggest hit, behind their xmas topper 'Always on My Mind'.

I wouldn't have minded this winning, it's a great dance tune with vocals from Loleatta Holloway (R.I.P.) who died recently. And it's the 89th best selling song of all time.

I am now officially VERY pleased with the result of this poll! :D

Atomic is really not that good IMO. My mum used to listen to that song a lot and I always thought '...was that it?' at the end of it. Doesn't seem to go anywhere. Could do with some actual lyrics. Unpopular opinion anyway. Their other #1s (and indeed most of the rest of their output that I've heard) are much better.

 

Oh and is it just a coincidence that Blondie have a #1 called 'Atomic', then a band called Atomic Kitten went to #1 with a cover of a different Blondie song?

03 - ABBA "The Winner Takes It All" (1980) (+92)

Mega popular group ABBA got their second-last (eighth) number one with this. It was their 16th out of 19 T10 hits. ABBA has been a big point of discussion in the lounge recently, we know there are loons out there who will be unhappy with this result. *cough*Gooddelta*cough*

 

OUTRAGEOUS!

 

Seriously though, a Like A Prayer win I'd be quite content with, seems like the two best songs of the 80s (imo) made the top three, so I'm happy with that!

Number One will be revealed at 4pm. Until then, predict who's gonna win (Madonna or Madonna) :lol:

The Winner Takes It All isn't that good either :( ABBA's best song by far is 'Lay All Your Love On Me', it's a shame they only got #7 with that when some of their #1s are absolutely terrible.
