The Winner Takes It All isn't that good either :( ABBA's best song by far is 'Lay All Your Love On Me', it's a shame they only got #7 with that when some of their #1s are absolutely terrible.

Lay All Your Love On Me is my joint favourite ABBA song, it's a bit outrageous that it peaked at #7 but I read somewhere that it was only released on one format or something which hindered its sales.

02 - Madonna "Into The Groove" (1985) (+104)

(4-1-1-1-1-2-4-7-12-20-29-37-49-71-x-96-99-x) (16 weeks)

After near misses with hit singles 'Like A Virgin', 'Material Girl' and 'Crazy For You', this shot up to the top and spent 4 weeks there.

01 - Madonna "Like A Prayer" (1989) (+142)

(2-1-1-1-3-8-18-25-27-43-58-74-80-x) (13 weeks)

This was the 'Bad Romance' of the 80s. If Buzzjack had been around back then, it would be all over this song and LAP would spent many weeks as the Multichart No.1. In the UK, this was her sixth number one out of 13. Madonna breaks a record for the highest points scored in a 'final' round in this game, which is unlikely to be broken in the next game in the series (21st Century Number Twos)

Thanks you guys again for voting and being a part of the game :D The Ultimate Series been very successful on it's third game, which is great for any series. I'm happy with the winner, it's one of my favourite early Madge songs.

issued only on 12" single (vinyl), no proper video and third single taken from a big selling album (UK).

Yes it was only released on 12" hence its comparatively low chart position....Though it was the first single to ever make the top 10 with no 7" version available since the format was introduced back in the 50s

EDIT: Beaten to it :D

Gah, Blondie 4th! One of these days my favourite will actually win one of these god damn things - mind you, my favourite #1 of the 80s (Chaka Khan - I Feel For You) didn't even make it out of the yearly round!!

Didn't vote for ANY of the top 3 but I like them all to varying degrees. Glad Like a Prayer won over Into The Groove. The latter would have been a bit of an anti-climatic winner. I think overall I prefer 6-10 over 1-5 though!

Just noticed it's an all-female vocal top 5 - back to typical BJ? :kink:

Great winner, Into The Groove is decent but I've always preferred the backing track to the rest of the song. Like A Prayer is genius, a true pop classic and a deserved if inevitable winner.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole top ten were females in the 21st Century Rate. ;)

Can't really complain about that result (a shame Mel & Kim never got a look-in) but I prefer 'Into The Groove' just that tiny bit more. I love 'Atomic' however it's popularity astounds me on this forum considering it's not a strictly conventional pop song (which thus makes it's high result all the more better!).

Really don't like Abba, on pen to paper I should, but I just can't stick 'em!

a predictable but nonetheless very good winner- Like a Prayer is a classic of course, don't think I voted for a lot of the top 10, but there all still great songs, I'm very surprised A-ha made it that high :o

and thanks again for this Daniel, been an interesting rate :D

'Like A Prayer' winning gets a :D from me. Would've been nice to see Black Box top 2 but top 5 is still a great result for an 80s dance anthem.

I must be one of the few Buzzjackers who think 'The Winner Takes It All' by ABBA is vastly overrated. :(

worthy winner (plus my #1 choice too) in my opinion, great single, great video from a great era.

Ugh! Madonna top 2. Oi Buzzjack!

Whatever, the best song was top 10. The sun always shines on TV

Thanks for doing this Daniel but I forgot to tell you that Kylie song at #17 is 'I should be so lucky'. ^_^

oops, typo  I'll leave it as it is though. Today's round will be starting shortly! :D

Tut - still, thanks for running this Daniel. I really wish Madonna was as good as people on BJ seem to think.
