I can see Liverpool fans beginning to wind me up this season with their worship of King Kenny. I know Hodgson wasn't great and his signings were poor but would Kenny really be any different if he was working with the same budget? Last season the likes of Poulsen, Merieles, Koncheskey, Jones and Cole but the total spending was pretty similar to what they got for Mascherano. A year down the line how is it possible to afford all of these new players at high cost? Where has the money appeared from? Surely if it's here now it was a year ago, so why not back Hodgson instead of giving him no budget?!

A lot wind me up as well. Some of them think we'll be challenging for the title this season - no chance. Top 4 is a realistic expectation, and hopefully some silverware. The owners are basically a syndicate. I'm not sure how many financial backers there are behind them, but they're all very very astute businessmen. One of them owns about 10% of The New York Times, and James Lebron is also owns a part of Liverpool. John Henry and Tom Werner though are the two principle backers. I've made my feelings very clear on Roy Hodgson before - he is a good manager, but he was f***ing terrible at Liverpool. They players he signed bar Merieles were all absolutely dreadful and would struggle to get in to a Championship side, let alone a Premier League one.

Martinez rejects Aston Villa and stays on at Wigan. Another 'win for football'.

Mark Hughes et al TAKE HEED.

The PL rules were to blame I think. He inherited a squad with only Johnson, Carragher and Gerrard (maybe Lucas? I don't know his age or how long he's been here) meeting the criteria and had no money to spend. Cole and Konchesky weren't bad signings at the time, for meeting the rules and bolstering the squad then for what they cost I don't there would've been many better choices, but I've no idea what happened with them. I saw Konchesky play live 6 or 7 times for us, and he didn't look like a Premier League player, which I never expected, whereas when we'd had Shorey and Bertrand they always looked like they were playing at a level beneath themselves. I've no idea why he signed Brad Jones though, possibly the worst signing in existence. If he needed a back up keeper that met the rules and wanted to look in the Championship there would've been at least half a dozen better keepers available for under £1m

To be fair back in the day Joe Cole was a fairly skilful player (definitely not Messi standards mind..). But he's f***ing awful these days.

As much as I love Stevie G.. he does come out with some odd things at times

But yeh.. I don't think anyone thought Cole would have such a bad season. Hopefully he'll be off this season.. On ridiculous wages too !

Looking forward to the Under 21 tournement matches. Will be a good time to see the likes of Mata, Wickham, Thiago etc.. in action

The first half of Belarus v Iceland was rubbish.

Haha you couldn't make this up. It's well known Ashley Young is on his way to Manchester United. Apparently the reason he called off his £200,000 wedding two days before it was due to happen is because he's been taking part in some naughty infidelity. Trying to rival Ryan Giggs clearly!

Why was Davies sacked? I thought he was doing quite well! McLaren would be an excellent appointment. For any Premier League team bottom half he'd be an excellent appointment. Unfortunately the media have made him out to be a 'rubbish' manager which is not the case at all. I could see Forest being a Premier League team v.soon if its the case.

McLeish has resigned from Birmingham as well. Possible Villa managerial candidate?

There's been something fundamentally wrong with Davies and the board for the last 18 months, he obviously wants far more than the board are prepared to give. He's a good manager but ultimately his personality let's him down, he's far too controlling and finds it far too easy to hold a grudge.

I've seen about McLeish, my Villa supporting mate says he's 1/5 on to take over! Davies to Brum maybe?

McLaren is a decent manager but he was completely out of his depth with England. I'd like to see him succeed with an English club so he can say a big "up yours" to the press. However, as we saw with Villa, any club looking to appoint him will probably face a lot of hostility from supporters. If and when he does get a job he's going to need to get off to a very good start to shut those supporters up.

The negative reaction of Forest fans in general has been unreal so far. Anyone would think we were appointing a dream team of David Platt, Roy McFarland and Tony Adams. It seems that unless we appoint Martin O'Neill Forest fans aren't going to be satisfied.

Fans are far too fickle. I can't believe Villa fans did not want Benitez. Laughable really. I can see why he's hated, but he's a brilliant manager. It's funny as they still consider themselves a top 6 club. Funny how nobody wants to manage them and their 3 best players all look like they're leaving.

McLaren will be a brilliant appointment. He's turned FC Twente in to a top club. Alright things didn't work out at Wolfsburg, but he'd still be a brilliant appointment for a LOT of English teams.

McClaren confirmed. Glad it's been done quickly, hopefully we can get Earnshaw and Moussi to sign new contracts, hopefully he won't use the majority of our transfer and wage budget on Kris Boyd.

Now I understand why Billy Davies had to go.

Jones deal to Man Utd official. While he's a very very good prospect if I was a Man Utd fan I'd be a little bit worried spunking all this money on positions where you're already really strong. I think they're interested in Vagers (sp?) from some French club as well.

Can't see the logic in swapping Nani for Young either. The former's a much better player.

EDIT: Kean's just confirmed its £25m inc. add-ons.
