'Stunning' nude shot of Madonna expected to fetch £5,000

An 'absolutely stunning' photograph of Madonna posing naked on a bed while smoking a cigarette has emerged for sale.

The black and white shot, taken in 1990, shows the singer reclining on a bed with her breasts exposed and just a white sheet covering her bottom half.

Madonna, who has bleached blonde hair and dark eye make-up in the picture, is seen holding a cigarette to her pouting lips, adopting a sexy, sultry pose.

This photograph, taken by Steven Meisel, is signed and annotated 'ed no.1' and is expected to fetch over £5,000.

It measures 21.5 inches by 19 inches and was bought by the vendor from a New York gallery.

The photograph, which was taken by the same photographer who did the work for Madonna's 1992 book Sex, is to be sold by Bonhams in New York on May 8.

Judith Eurich from the sale room said: 'This is an absolutely stunning image and it is just a beautiful tone of grey. It is not just black and white it is grey and silvery.

'Madonna was posing for a number of photographers at the time this was taken in the 1990s when she was in her early 30s.

'She was going through a phase of having bleach blonde hair and heavy dark eye make-up that gave her a dramatic look - and of course she has a gorgeous body.

'She is a very healthy person and I'd imagine the cigarette is just a prop to make her look sexy and sultry.

'There are Madonna superfans and devotees across the world who would love to own it.'

It sold for £14,761 in the end.

Madonna memorabilia on sale in UAE

Madonna fans in the UAE are being offered the chance to own a piece of the singer’s authentic memorabilia.

More than 60 items - including a selection of outfits, concert and movie costumes, jewellery, props and personal items – will be on sale at BurJuman’s ‘Simply Madonna’ exhibition.

The collection has been built up over the past six years by Marquee Capital, a memoribilia investment firm, and spans the star’s 25-year career in showbiz.

Pieces include Madonna’s Marilyn Monroesque pink ‘Material Girl’ gown, the infamous ‘Open Your Heart’ black satin bustier, outfits from Madonna’s portrayal of Eva Perón in the multi- Oscar winning ‘Evita’, and Who’s That Girl Tour gloves.

Other standout exhibits offered in the sale include jewellery, concert tour costumes, film props, photographs, awards and a series of rarely seen items from the music legend’s personal life – including a signed AmEx card, the cancellation of a post-marital agreement with Sean Penn, a hand-written Valentine’s Day letter, school yearbook, film contracts and a daily planner that gives fans a peek into Madonna’s personal world.

'The sale of Madonna memorabilia is an incredible opportunity for fans to own a piece of the life of a true legend. This is an opportunity that has never been offered to the public in the region before and the people of the UAE have the rare chance to get first dibs on some of the most iconic pieces of pop culture in existence,' said Sabina Khandwani Head of PR and Marketing, BurJuman.

'We are expecting a great deal of interest from buyers outside of the UAE as well, die-hard Madge fans and collectors – and when it comes to the price, they can be pretty sure this is an investment that is only going to appreciate.'

The Simply Madonna Exhibition will take place at BurJuman South Village Area, BurJuman Observatory Area (opposite Virgin) from 10 am – 10 pm from May 24 to June 6.

Visitors interested in purchasing one of the pieces will have the opportunity to do so from 9am to 4pm daily, from May 27 to May 31.

A SCHOOL yearbook with a picture of MADONNA before she was famous has emerged from one of the star’s former classmates.

The snap shows the fresh-faced teen with dark air and Madge’s unmistakeable features.

Beneath the photo of the future pop star is her name - Madonna Ciccone.

She signed the back of the West Junior High School book to her pal Nancy.

The future Queen of Pop wrote: “Dear Nancy, I hope you have fun at Adams and all the years to come, Madonna “76”.”

It is unclear what the “76” refers to, but Adams is the name of the high school in Rochester that Nancy went on to.

The book was published at the end of the 1971-1972 school year, when Madonna was 13 or 14 and leaving her high school in Michigan, US.

Now it is expected to fetch up to £1,500 pounds when it goes under the hammer at Christie’s auction house in London.

Helen Hall, from the saleroom, said: “I think it is very rare for one of the yearbooks from Madonna’s junior high school with her in it to come on the market. I have never seen one before.

“It is very far removed from rock ’n’ roll and shows someone who is rather young and innocent.

“It looks like Madonna has dark hair and the camera clearly liked her from an early age and shows the signs of the star she was to become.

“There are huge Madonna fans all over the globe and there is a big market.”

The auction takes place on June 12.

The green silked corset, designed of course by Jean Paul Gaultier in 1990, was included in the Pop culture auction held by Christie's International at the South Kensington auction house today, November 29, and was bought by a bidder in the room, acting for an undisclosed London collector.
