Posted July 30, 200618 yr British Gas was accused of daylight robbery yesterdayafter announcing its third price increase in 12 months. The company sparked outrage by putting up gas bills by 12.4 per cent and electricity by 9.4 per cent from September. That comes on top of a 22 per cent rise in February which it said would be the last this year. It means bills for its 17 million customers have risen by over 91 per cent since 2003. Consumer groups say we should all switch to other suppliers and many of us do, but the other suppliers, although slightly cheaper than B Gas have all still increased prices 2 or 3 times in the last few years. The utility companies blame cost of gas and therefore justify the increases, but at the same time they announce record profits. The only losers are us, we have to pay,our only choice is not to use gas or electricity, doh. Old people suffer the most as they find it difficult or impossible to switch to a cheaper company. Since they are on fixed incomes how are they suppossed to pay. If loads of old people die because they can't afford to heat their homes, will the utility companies say its nothing personal just business. Whose to blame the Utility companies, the Government somebody else?
July 30, 200618 yr While I am very much a free marketeer I think British Gas and the railways and other utilities should be re-nationalised,
July 31, 200618 yr While I am very much a free marketeer I think British Gas and the railways and other utilities should be re-nationalised, I find myself in total agreement with you. The only way these ludicrous price rises will stop is if Gas and Electricity is re-nationalised....
August 2, 200618 yr Heard my mum talking about it on the phone, it's hard enough as it is what with her being a lone parent now, without them keep rising.
