June 26, 201114 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles Adele Laurie Blue Adkins takes the summit of the ARIA Singles Chart with her second chart entry "Someone Like You", which took just over three months to make its climb to the top (14 weeks). The song becomes the ninth No.1 for 2011, and the 981st No.1 in Australia (1940 to 2011), plus she is the first English Female Performer to reach No.1 this decade, with the last such act being Leona Lewis with “Bleeding Love” in January of 2008. She is also the 21st (ironic!!) English Female Solo act, the 113th English act, with the 187th English performed No.1 here in Australia (1940-2011). “Someone Like You” is the first song to feature the word ‘someone’ in it’s title, but the fourteenth with ‘like’, with Guy Sebastian “Like it Like That” (Sept 2009, 2 weeks) being the last. Also she becomes the first act on the XL/Inertia label to score a No.1 here in Australia Australia is now the fifth country to make “Someone Like You” into a No.1 single, following on from England, Scotland, Ireland and New Zealand. Adele is also No.1 on the album chart, and this is the 116th time that an act has occupied both No.1's here (1940-2011), and the last person to do that was Eminem back in July, 2010 with the song “Love the Way You Lie” and the album “Recovery”. The last time a female act held both number ones was Madonna back in May 2008 with “4 Minutes” and “Hard Candy”. Plus she keeps her No.4 position with "Rolling in the Deep", now its sixth week within the Top 4, plus she has two further chart singles lower down the chart, “Set Fire to the Rain” climbs seven places to No.77 and she re-enters at No.97 with “Turning Tables”. So after ten weeks of Partying at No.1, LMFAO drops back to No.2 with their "Party Rock Anthem", now the equal second longest running No.1 this century, (with Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker"), and is so far the longest running No.1 this decade. And with Adele's ascenscion to No.1, it also pushes Pitbull out of his six-week run at No.2 with "Give Me Everything", as it drops back to No.3 this week, but both of these acts have new entries debuting inside the Top 30, so it's not all bad for them. Katy Perry scores a sixth consecutive Top 5 hit from her "Teenage Dream" album (TW-23) as "Last Friday Night (TGIF)" climbs a place to land at No.5 (although it does ruin her run of having a No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4, No.5 and No.6 hit). And another Perry (albiet Perri), leaps into the Top 10 right behind her. Christina Perri is up six places to No.6 with her first hit "Jar of Hearts", now her first Top 10 hit. The two Perri/y's push down the rest of last weeks Top 10, as Jason DeRulo's "Don't Wanna Go Home" is down two places to No.7, and all dropping one place apiece are "We Run the Night" for Havana Brown to No.8, "Own This Club" for Marvin Priest to No.9 and "Loud" by Stan Walker to No.10. NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Bruno Mars struts up the chart twelve places to No.13 with his future sixth Top 10 appearance with "Marry You", "Don't Stop the Party" for The Black Eyed Peas returns to it's former peak of No.16, and thanks in part to her visit to our shores this past week, Wynter Gordon's former No.16 hit "Till Death" is back up six places to No.18 this week. Nicki Minaj holds her "Super Bass" at No.23 for a second week, and up two places to a new peak of No.27 is Chris Brown's "She Ain't You". Leaping into the Top 50 at No.41 is Sneaky Sound System with "We Love", up twenty-one places, and right behind them at No.42 is Benny Benassi and Gary Go with "Cinema", a new peak for that track too. There are five Top 50 entries this week, and the highest new entry is from former No.1 holders LMFAO, who enter at No.26 with "Champagne Showers", featuring guest vocalist Natalia Kills. It's now their seventh chart appearance, and fourth Top 50 entry, and this is the second single from their second album "Sorry for Party Rocking" which is released this week. And by debuting at No.26, it instantly surpasses their first chart peak, No.27 for “I’m in Miami Bitch”. The sixth album for Pitbull entitled "Planet Pit" debuts in the Top 10 on the albums chart this week, and the third single from the album also makes an entry on the singles chart. "Rain Over Me" featuring guest vocalist Marc Anthony enters at No.29 to become his fourteenth Top 100 chart entry, and Marc racks up his fourth Top 100 entry, and first chart appearance since September 2002’s “I’ve Got You” (HP-33). The two previous singles released from Pitbull’s new album were “Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor)” (HP-10, Oct 2010) and “Give Me Everything” (HP-2, TW-3). Last week Eminem's new project Bad Meets Evil debuted with it's first sing;e "Fast Lane" at No.57 (TW-74), and this week they enter with their second single (plus their debut album also enters) entitled "Lighters", which debuts at No.30 and features guest vocalist Bruno Mars. Exactly two years ago this week, Wes Carr was spending his last week in the Top 50 with his second Top 50 entry "Feels Like Woah" (HP-14, April 2009). This week he debuts with the aptly titled single "Been a Long Time", which enters at No.33, and this becomes his fifth charting single overall. Scotsman Calvin Harris scores his seventh ARIA Top 100 Singles Chart and fifth Top 50 chart entry this week by debuting at No.34 with "Bounce", the first taste of his forthcoming (as yet untitled) third album. This new track features guest vocals from Kelis, her eleventh chart entry, and this track has already gone to No.1 in his home country, No.2 in England and No.6 in Ireland. Lower Top 50: With Sean Coombes appearing on last weeks broadcast episode of 'Hawaii 5-0' here in Australia, and with his current single "Coming Home" being used in the show, it helps it to rebound back up the charts to No.52 this week. Swedish House Mafia re-entered the Top 100 last week with "Save the World" at No.78, and this week it jumps up to a new peak of No.62. Taylor Swift is up twenty-two places to No.65 with her latest single "The Story of Us", and we see a re-entry at No.92 for the APRA Winner for 2011, "Big Jet Plane" for Angus and Julia Stone. The Glee gang enter at No.78 with an original song "Light Up the World", and like the end of Season 1, this song was featured in the season finale for Season 2 that aired last week here in Australia. It's possibly the gang's last new entry until the series starts up again in September, and this is their 96th chart entry in Australia. With Carrie Underwood's recent promo tour, and scoring her first Top 40 album debut, "Play On" (TW-15), that album now gives her a first singles chart entry, as "Undo it" debuts at No.85 this week. This song went to No.1 on the US Country Chart in August 2010, and peaked at No.23 on their Top 100 Pop Chart, and hit No.43 in Canada. Albums With the onslaught of major new albums this week, it's amazing that Adele holds at No.1 for a seventh accumualted week with her second album "21", whilst her first album "19" maintains a Top 10 position at No.9 this week. But congratulations must go to her record label Inertia, who scores the Top 2 albums this week, something or a rarity for an independent music label. That debut at No.2 is Wisconsin natives Bon Iver whose second album is a self-titled affair, which also helps their first album "For Emma, Forever Ago" (HP-32, peaked in February 2009) to rebound up the charts thirty-three places to No.48, which means that their new album out-peaks their first by thirty places. This time last year, Eminem debuted at No.1 with his album "Recovery", but this week he enters at No.3 with his new project Bad Meets Evil with rapper Royce 5’9” and their debut album "Hell: The Sequel". Two singles are already charting from the album, the second debuts this week entitled "Lighters" with Bruno Mars as guest vocalist (see above). The third Top 5 debut of the week is the sixth studio album for Pitbull, but only his second to chart here. Debuting at No.5 is "Planet Pit", which this week scores its third entry to the Top 30, as "Rain Over Me" debuts at No.29. His only other charting album was 2009's "Rebelution" which reached No.54 in January of 2010 (having debuted in Sept 2009). Lady GaGa continues her one-place-a-week drop, as "Born This Way" is down to No.4 this week (mirroring its title tracks initial chart run). Last weeks highest new entry "Little Hell" by City & Colour drops back to No.6 this week, and the trio of Seeker Lover Keeper is down three places to No.7 with their self-titled album. Bruno Mars spends his twenty-eighth week in the Top 10 at No.8 with "Doo-Wops and Hooligans", and Jessie J halves her position from last week, dropping from No.5 to No.10 with "Who You Are". The third album for Brisbane duo The Grates debuts at No.11 entitled "Secret Rituals". Their first two albums both entered higher, with 2006's "Gravity Won't Get You High" at No.9, and their 2008 set "Teeth Lost, Hearts Won" reaching No.6, both of which debuted at their peaks. The fourth studio album for Canada's Simple Plan entitled "Get Your Heart On!" comes in at No.13 to be their third highest charting album so far. Current single from the album "Jet Lag" has already peaked at No.8 and is sitting at No.12 this week. Their previous chart efforts here in Australia have been... "With the Music I Die" is the debut album for New York native Wynter Gordon, who was in the country last week to promote the album. The album enters at No.25, and it has produced the two singles "Dirty Talk" (HP-1, peak Jan 2011, TW-75) and "Till Death" (HP-16, TW-18), both of which rise back up the charts due to her promo visit. And entering at No.33 is the third album for Owl City, "All Things Bright and Beautiful". His second album "Ocean Eyes" went to No.14 in February 2010, featuring the No.1 single "Fireflies". The two lead singles from this new set are "Galaxies" and "Deer in the Headlights". NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: With Miley Cyrus doing her first concert tour of Australia at the moment, her most recent album "Can't Be Tamed" leaps back into the the Top 30 at No.30, up forty-four places. Right behind her at No.31 is Russell Watson with "La Voce", up eighteen places from last weeks debut of No.49. Kanye West rebounds into the Top 40 to No.34 (from #48) with his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", and also re-entering the Top 40 is Angus and Julia Stone with "Down the Way", up seventeen places to No.36 helped by their APRA win from the past week.
