Posted July 7, 201114 yr Take That confirm new single 'When We Were Young' Thursday, July 7 2011, 14:34 BST By Robert Copsey, Music ReporterRecommend1Tweet0Email this storyTake ThatMusic © Rex Features / Most Wanted Take That have announced the title and release date of their new single. 'When We Were Young' is the second cut from their eight-track EP Progressed, which topped the UK album chart last month. The track will be the theme song to forthcoming film The Three Musketeers, which is due to be released in October. Gary Barlow said: "The film is visually so rich and beautiful that our main challenge was to then match it musically. "We've returned to guitars, real pianos and a conventional song structure to achieve this. We also thought that the Musketeers reminded us of ourselves." The song is the last to be released from the band's Progress sessions, as they continue to perform around the UK on their record-breaking tour. It was recently reported that Robbie Williams will embark on a solo tour after the group's current sold-out jaunt.
July 7, 201114 yr Author I had a feeling that they would release when we were young as a single, it probably wont do much as a single prob top 30, but the fact that its also used for theme song to forthcoming film The Three Musketeers will give it a boost and also add a few more sales to the album.

I can't stand the song - load of rubbish (musically weak and lyrically 'so what?') I have to say as well Pete that I'm quite disturbed by a band that throws out any old song just to 'grab a few more album sales'. If they were that sure of it then they should have gone for a better song (although granted - there aren't many on Progressed) and had a physical release - or just stop releasing songs from it at all. July 7, 201114 yr lol Kath, relax! very pleased this is being released and if they release the video on the same day as the release, promote it on the week of release and maybe even do what they did with said it all and release multiple copies then it has a good chance of doing well
July 7, 201114 yr Author Well i have always like when we were young from first listen, this and love love are by far the 2 highlights of progressed so im happy its been released, there really isnt anything else on progressed that is single material. Yes, hopefully this single will have a coherent release but i dount it as the last few single releases have been messy to say the least so i cant see this been any different.
July 7, 201114 yr I don't like this song either :( I haven't actually listened to Progressed, only Progress so I just gave it a listen and I'm disappointed.
July 7, 201114 yr Author Progressed isnt their best work by any means, for me when we were young and the brilliant love love are the clear standouts.
July 7, 201114 yr yeah i agree that love love and when we were young are the only two single choices possible. i cant see any other song doing anything in the charts and also the meaning behind this song is very sincere and honest i think, so it is a nice way of ending the Progress era.. with a reflective, meaningful song that goes back to basics and bring back the pianos and strings possibly indicating a return in the future to Circus styled music rather than synths Plus, this single might actually get airplay! i can definately see magic, heart, radio 1 and a few more promoting it before the release. Video wise i think its safe to say it could be very similar to that of Never Forget, maybe with clips from their return on the x factor, LBDS and Progress Live and a few behind the scenes like from the Progress App Either way i hope the song does better than Kidz and gets a top 20 placing and charts in europe. (interesting to see if this song is added to the european dates)
July 7, 201114 yr Author Ya, with it being a single now they might add it to the European list, i agree about it been a reflective song and a nice end to the era and im sure the video will represent that element aswell. Top 20 placing would be great but im not sure how this is gona do, they simply arent a singles act as such anymore with the exception of the lead single. On saying that, kidzs has now sold well over 100,000 and love love will do the same which isnt so bad for singles that have under perfomred and have been given extremely messy releases.
July 8, 201114 yr yeah and so both if they had released kidz and love love the way that they released said it all and up all night then both could have easily made top 10. but saying that 3million sales of progress worldwide, 500k of the flood, 100k of kidz and love love as well as the sales of LBDS and a sell out stadium tour isnt that bad at all!!

Ya i agree, and also progress, progressed has plenty of sales left in yet, and i think the flood will eventually go platnum as its well past 500,000 sales in the UK now. Yes if the singles of progress/progressed were given the same style of releases as the single sthey would have done better, love love didnt even get a phyisical and its overall sales when finished wont be that far of the total sales of said it all.
July 8, 201114 yr love love didnt even get a phyisical and its overall sales when finished wont be that far of the total sales of said it all. yeah especially as a majority of TT fans prefer to have a CD rather than download it, bad judgment on their part to be honest Edited July 8, 201114 yr by jay727
July 9, 201114 yr Author Yes, and i am one of them, i would have loved to have got the phyisical, the download just doesnt do it for me.
July 11, 201114 yr Why is the single coming out now yet the film isn't out until October  And it's a bad choice for single IMO and seems a little desperate the way they keep attaching themselves to Hollywood movies.
July 11, 201114 yr Author Im surprised they have got 2 hollywood movies so near to each other, not many cats are lucky to get that.
July 11, 201114 yr yeah they are hardly attaching themselves desperately Swagger, you don't just attach yourself to a big budget hollywood movie they come to you not the other way around. and i disagree completely i think when we were young is the perfect single to close the progress era and perhaps bridge back to the more traditional sound for a new studio album. who knows!
July 11, 201114 yr Author From whats available when we were young is by far the best choice as final single from this era, while i do like the song, at the same time it wouldnt rank in my top 10 favourite take that singles.
July 12, 201114 yr Im surprised they have got 2 hollywood movies so near to each other, not many cats are lucky to get that. Though Pete - on X-Men First Class - the song Love, Love isn't played on the US film release - only on the European (including UK) and some South American releases. It could be the same for The Three Musketeers too. So in effect - they're not really reaching a US audience at all (not that thats the intention). I'm sure if an excellent song like Rule The World couldn't make an impression on the US market (and RTW WAS included on the US film release) then I can't see how two inferior songs (I'm thinking the lacklustre WWWY as I actually like Love, Love - even if it isn't a patch on RTW) could hope to have any more success. I'm fairly certain Rob's song will be / is on the US release of Cars 2 though. Kath
July 12, 201114 yr Author Ya if the fantastic rule the world didnt manage it there was no way love love or when we were young would, but like you said america isnt their aim, their aim os europe and this will do sales no harm at all although its probably the album that will gain the ost from when we were young rather than the single itself.
July 12, 201114 yr yeah robs song will be on cars 2 but i dont think it will chart at all to be honest. its more of a novely track taking the stereotypes of the english and the yanks and playing on them. europe wouldn't understand the humour in the song and tbh neither would the americans lol
