How can they blame OA/OS when it's been held back for weeks, and it will obviously get A-listed by R1 by mid-August so they can't blame poor promotion?

People here always seem to find something to blame when acts like Britney or the Saturdays flop, instead of just realising that most people don't like the song.

..but leona isnt Britney or Saturdays, and hasnt had a hardcore 'flop' single ever so dont get your point. If you think Leona's comeback single after 2 years will go in at #8 and plummet, its your prediction i guess but you are underestimating her & the song A LOT. This is the lady who has had two successful albums, 6 top 10 hits, and made it Worldwide. If this doesnt make #1, it'll at least make top 3.

..and also you say Leona wont get young people interested a MASSIVE Part of her fanbase are young people, so not sure of your point there. Yes, also appeals to the mature audience, but i'm sure the second lead single will be more Leona ie Big, epic ballad. But with Collide its young, but doesnt completely forget & leave out old leona. She appeals to a lot of different people, like Adele i'd say, so as long as she continues to make great music and mass-appeal music she'll be fine. :D

Has she managed a number 1 single without performing on X Factor?

I think some Leona fans are taking a few things for granted. This will definitely go top 5 with good airplay but I don't think the number 1 spot is guaranteed.

Nothing is guaranteed that's for sure.

..and no she hasn't, but i'm hoping 'Collide' will change that.

She's hit #1 Worldwide though without X Factor ofcourse. :P

Past success means very little though really. So many acts fail to live up to their previous album including Leona last time (it was a hell of a task, granted). Realistically, I don't think this will be as successful as 'Happy' was.

What makes you say it will 'obviously' get R1 A-Listed? If anything I'm inclined to predict it'll get snubbed completely especially considering how reluctant they seemed to playlist I Got You (IIRC it only got to the C-List for a couple of weeks?)

Really? I doubt that, I think it'll be bigger. Happy did do well, and is such a beautiful song that I think everyone can relate too.

I think Collide will really do well, i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Bre, this is completely different though. Collide is a lead single & comeback single after 2 years, and will have the Afrojack remix too dont forget, Radio1 will A-List it i'm sure.

I think 'Collide' will most likely do about as well as 'Happy' selling around 80-90k in its first week but will unlikely hang around the charts for months. Having listened to it a couple more times it's slowly turning into 'When Love Takes Over' just without the Euphoric chorus. 'Collide' does have a big chorus but I still think it falls slightly flat. :(

Anyways, 'Happy' would've easily been no. 1 when released had Fergie not outsang Leona on The X Factor. Leona won't have that going against her this time round so maybe she will get to #1 but even so I still reckon she will be continue to be remembered for 'Bleeding Love' and 'Run'. Hopefully Leona will be allowed to do a "Beyonce" and her second single will be a sublime ballad et la 'Best Thing I Never Had' and if promoted well and given an early December release could give Leona another shot at getting possibly two #1 singles by the end of 2011.

I think the fact Collide was premiered on Radio One gives it a very strong chance of getting A-Listed, they're not going to snub a song they got the world premiere of. Surely?

Definitely not instant...

I do not know if it will grow on me in the future but for the time being it sounds so cheap and not Leona... Her vocals somehow don't fit. I feel she is oversinging a song that would never see the light of day if it was wasn't Leona singing. And it is not dancey either! What are they trying to accomplish with a such song is beyond my imagination. It is different to what she's done before but if you change the music then it may sound familiar. Ballad singing over a (not great) dance tempo? 'Cruuuuush' sounds painful after the 100th time and 'we can colide' finshes the chorus too soon.

It should end up within top 5, but it is imo her worst single to date. I am hugely dsappointed...

I hope it will sound different when I listen to it tomorrow.

I can actually see this song being pulled from being released. However if it isnt i have no doubt that it will reach number 1

there really are a lot of people underestimating this.

I think 'happy' didn't do well because as decent as it was, it was just too similar to her other stuff. not to mention that for me, it got boring really quickly. and of course, 'I got you' didn't do well because it hardly reached above the c-list, as radio 1 got bored of her following how badly 'happy' bombed after it peaked. now that we're into a new era, I'm positive that this will be playlisted and will reach the a-list, seen as it appeals to a bigger audience. I'm sure it'll reach number 1.

anyone is welcome to quote me back on this if I'm wrong, post-release. :kink:

Lmao at people here thinking it will become a success just because they want it to  No doubt they'll blame on-air-on-sale/promotion/Reggie Yates when it inevitably fails to live up to their expectations.

I say it'll scrape to about #8 before plunging down the chart. This is a truly BAFFLING career move - no club is ever going to play a Leona Lewis song so she's not going to get many young people interested, AND she's going to alienate the older audience that made her so successful in the first place with this new sound. The fall cometh.

Considering it's been played a lot already in Ibiza, I think you're underestimating Leona and 'Collide'. A lot of her audience are relatively young so, again, you're not really accurate with your claims. The beauty of this song is that it might be dance-influenced, but it still remains a true Leona song with exceptional vocals and $h!tloads of emotion.

More to the point, has she ever really had the chance to release a single without XF? Both her lead singles were promoted on XF but would have been #1 anyway (I actually think if 'Happy' was released in January, it would have got to #1 -_-). Granted, it's a shame 'Better In Time' couldn't get to #1, although it was only a few hundred copies off, but I think it was a weak single - definitely following a monster hit like BL. 'Take A Bow' should have been released. I think with 'Forgive Me' and 'I Got You', bad management was the cause of their "bad" peaks, although neither would have made #1 anyway (maybe FM if it was released on the Sunday and didn't get deleted -_-).

What? Comeback after 2 years? It's barely been 1.5 so far. Let's not exaggerate.

Ofcourse that is true, but what i'm saying is give it a few listens before people start making their minds up, for some people, and for some songs, it takes more then one listen to come up with a final judgement of the song. :)

One listen is pretty much enough for me to know how I feel about the song. Multiple listens alone will never change my mind.

Some people don't like 'Collide', including me, get over it.

Sounds OK. Some of the lyrics in the first minute feel a little "forced" - the line that has "familiar" in it (can't remember the whole line) particularly so, and then the song sort of runs out and it becomes a couple of lines "We Can Collide" and "Crash Into Me" repeated many times over a dance beat that varies up and down a few times.

Nice to see that she is actually trying something different, but the conclusion is that there are others out there doing this sort of thing quite a bit better.

I am in LOVE with this song, in particular the stunning Afrojack remix! Wow! Best dance song in a LONG time.

I love the remix. I'm sure it'll be released on iTunes, and hopefully along with an acoustic/piano version. I'd love to see a stripped down version of 'Collide', i'm sure Leona will treat us to one of those performances.

Oh wow, an acoustic would be SUBLIME  Can't wait to see what the CD/digital tracklists will be, hopefully a b-side will be included!

Other people don't need you to tell them what to do.
