My general thoughts on everything that I've missed, on the whole I disapprove;

 

Good to see Aayliah enter this year, rather surprised she and Diana didn’t place last year really. Selena Gomez doesn’t hugely interest me, thought she comes across more likeable than some of her fellow Disney co-stars. ‘Naturally’ was a good song. The rest has been sickly levels of bland.

 

Loved Paloma and Little Boots to bits. Very excited for new material from both, in particular if what’s being said about new Boots material is true. A shame things didn’t go as well as they should have with ‘Hands’ really.

I imagine Amy will climb a lot next year, and very much so deserved aswell, two fantastic albums from her regardless of anything else. ‘Back To Black’ in particular. Nice to see Brandy climbing, new album needed from this one please, ‘Human’ was great. Wasn’t crazy about the last Goldfrapp album, but love Alison regardless. Taylor Swift can go away now though. PUT A SOCK IN IT GIRL. Given up all hope on Carrie ever bothering with the UK.

 

Ciara bores me, she’s had some good material but usually just made average and lacklustre music half the time. Could occasionally be depended on to come up with the good stuff I suppose. Not bothered about Anastacia in the slight anymore, that last album, good god.

Adore both Janelle and Marina. Both came up with two of my favourite albums last year. Marina probably is a bit pig-headed I admit, but I do rather love her obnoxiousness all the same.

 

Good to see R BEV still holding up in her ever on-going claim to still be relevant. I downgraded from loon some point last year I’d guess but I still love her all the same. And the same for Natasha I suppose, now a flop of embarrassing propositions despite ‘Strip Me’ being very good.

Cannot abide Pixie Lott herself, much is the same as my relationship with Natalia Kills, the music I quite like, her herself? Idiot. Awful. Cretin. DIE. I don’t have much time for Ellie Goulding either.

DIANA VICKERS? WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Oh I take it back Pixie, I love you to bits compared to what’s my opinion on that thing. Good to see Sophie and Natalie still rather high though.

 

Nice group of top 30 on the whole though. Jessie J aside of course.

There are a few gems on "Director's Cut", for example the "Song Of Solomon" is slightly better than the original album version.

I haven't heard anything on it, people have just recommended Aerial or Hounds Of Love of a starting point (both of which I've listened to) and advised me off DC unless I'm a hardcore fan, which I'm not really.

Jessie J is decent, if only for Price Tag, but quite overrated, her others are merely OK

I've always said I don't mind the music itself, and I do actually really rather like 'Turn It Up' and 'Boys and Girls' especially. It's really her herself I don't like. Don't ask why. There's no logic behind this at all.

Oh there is. It's very easy and tempting to hate somebody who is as much of a personality vacuum as Pixie. :D

 

I must admit I rather love All About Tonight but most of what's gone before has been horseshit and as a person she's about as involving as sex with a corpse.

Pixie seems a nice girl, just really empty. I really enjoy her music though, particularly All About Tonight, Turn It Up and Cry Me Out.

Pixie's hot, babe, beautiful and is a nice person.

Next up we have Nelly Furtado who takes a rather hefty tumble this year. I gather this is due to the fact that she has released nothing of worth in about half a decade now? I'm all for multilingual fun but after you've done a 'Lopez' (I believe that should be a term in the dictionary) with the 'Loose' album, hibernating for three years and then releasing a record entirely in Spanish is only going to alienate the Americans and British who couldn't care for European music if it slapped them in the face wearing the members of A*Teens. That and a low profile greatest hits compilation which flopped at the end of last year and I really feel that her success days are over :( I'd like to be proven wrong though as 'Folklore' remains a masterpiece and 'Loose' despite being VERY inconsistent had some blinding single releases as well as a few under appreciated album gems (I always liked 'Afraid' :(). Come back Nelly! :(

Going the opposite way to Nelly is the Welch. A lot of people find her banshee induced image and shriek to be very irritating but she has certainly grown on me. I feel a lot of that is due to my housemate playing her album 'Lungs' constantly but meh. Florence emerged on the scene in late 2008 with her machine and buzz single 'Kiss With A Fist' which received huge exposure on the 4Music channel. Her debut album was launched six months later, but was denied that elusive chart topper by a surge of purchases of the late Michael Jackson's material. It eventually stormed to #1 at the start of 2010 thanks to her version of The Source's 'You Got The Love' (Hasn't that song been re-released enough times as it is? :(). My personal favourite of hers is 'Dog Days Are Over' which not even the Glee Cast could ruin for me. I love how she has traces of Kate Bush about her but still manages to bring something different to the table. All eyes are now on her the forthcoming second record will compare to her 1.3 million selling debut...

 

 

Afraid is excellent! Probably my favourite thing on Loose. It's a shame her GH single was such a damp squib because I did actually quite love the Spanish record... the production was pretty timeless and if she'd recorded those songs in English she would've straddled the line between Loose-era urban-pop Nelly and organic sunny pop Nelly quite nicely and probably got success out of it. Mas in particular is fantastic!

 

Lungs is a very messy album but I do have a lot of goodwill towards Florence (24). Dog Days and that fantastic cover of You've Got The Lover go to show what she can do when she's actually singing something with a melody.

I don't really care for Nelly except for the wonderful Say It Right, and I'm a bit of a Florence yoyo-er, there are parts of lungs that I love (The Girl With One Eye, Cosmic Love) but I now cannot stand the hideously overplayed Dog Days and find the rest slightly overrated. Still excited to hear what she comes out with next though!

Admittedly, Lungs didn't quite live up to the hype for me, but the singles were great and she is an incredible singer

I'm quite indifferent towards Florence, I liked a few songs on the album, but there was a lot more filler on there than you'd expect; I really liked some of the singles though, and I think she did 'You've Got the Love' brilliantly.

 

I really liked Nelly Furtado, and it's a shame she's been so poorly handled in recent times. I bought her Greatest Hits, and it is a pretty great set of songs that she's released; it's a shame she seemed to have peaked so early, with 'Night Is Young' not being as fantastic as hoped.

Florence is AMAZING live. When she came out on the Hammersmith Apollo and performed "Fireworks" with Drake. I died.

For the second year in a row Bjork finishes VERY high. Much highly than I predicted. Who'd have thought BJ secretly loves the Icelandic nutball? Of course being placed 1st by 3 different people will help your cause no end. I personally adore Bjork. I was converted after I heard her 'Post' album in my late teens and purchased all of her albums thenceforth. 'Homogenic' remains my personal favourite. Bjork embodies the true feelings of humanity in her songs - the often indecisive state we all inhabit rather than just straight out love songs (see 'Hyperballad). I am on the edge of my seat for the release of her next offering 'Biophilia' at the end of September. It's very rare that an artist can get so far into their career and still produce astonishing material ('Volta'). What always saddens me is that the hideous 'It's Oh So Quiet' is the first thing people think of when you mention Bjork. That and her penchant for beating up paparazzi in a psychotic rage of course. Whilst ISOSQ captures everything she is about perfectly, she has far better songs on offer. CONVERT TODAY.

I suffered from depression and the ilk some years ago. It must have been bad because I believed that Mariah Carey's music was emotional and soothing - when it probably only made matters worse. Alas it was for a brief time before I realised that she has a cracking personality but her voice is like a chain saw turning your bones to dust. I'm not denying the woman has talent and she has released some pretty awesome songs (Christmas, Heartbreaker, Obsessed etc), yet it's just her desire to move through an entire vocal range in about 2 minutes flat with her horrid little squeals splurged in all over the place (apparently this is known as the WHISTLE REGISTER HEH). The Americans have always lapped her up and her success comes and goes on British shores, but there is no denying that she is one of the biggest selling female artists to ever grace the planet. In America, her record of 18 number ones on the Billboard chart is still to be beaten by any solo artists and the only females to sell more albums than Carey in her homeland are Barbra Streisand and Madonna. She seemed to hit a bit of a rough patch with last studio effort 'Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel' and it's rumoured that new material could surface by the end of 2011. The singer recently gave birth to twins whom she named Monroe and Moroccan...

Mariah only at 27 she is like Whitney and should have been Top 10.I like vocal acrobatics and the more versatile the voice the better.It beats those miming no singing tramps that litter the current charts.

Mariah is actually amazing. We Belong Together is like THE best R&B ballad ever :wub:

I never thought A LOT of Jessie J. Back at the end of 2010 when everybody was raving about her/dubbing her 'The Next Best Thing' etc etc, all I saw was 'Do It Like A Dude' - a dreadful record that renders itself unlistenable in its attempt to parody the music scene. I will give J her dues though, 'Price Tag' is a very catchy piece of pop that is every bit a modern classic but other than that the attraction is very thin for me. 'Nobody's Perfect' was saved only by it's brilliantly put together video and the rest of the album is lacking anything that makes me think Jessie's success is going to be long term. All the hype seems to have paid off for her though as she has three top 10 hits and a debut record that's shifted over half a million units so far. On top of that she's also had a pretty decent level of success abroad including the US. Personally, I am disgusted she's managed to get so high and I can't help thinking she's looks like Chas from Emmerdale only not as wonderful :(

Next we move to Alexandra Burke. I personally think she is now my favourite out of The X Factor gang (not that that's saying a lot). I loved 'Overcome' and think it was everything Leona Lewis' album needed to be. Upbeat, catchy and still demonstrating Alexandra's vocal ability. Now I'm not about to go all 'LOON' on y'all because I'm not that sad. I mean, the whole 'rent-a-rapper' thing to get a hit is very lazy but with six top 20 singles under her belt and a double platinum album, it doesn't have seemed to have done her much harm. Alex has a huge battle on her hands to ensure album #2 goes the same way. It's been pushed back to early next year to avoid clashing with the rest of Cowell Inc come Christmas, though we should be hearing new material any day now. Burke has made the news recently due to Twittergate, in which she got into a bit of a battle with the hideous Example, siding with The Saturdays against his slurs.
