August 3, 201113 yr Oops Gaga, she was so overexposed in 2009/10 that this was probably inevitable. I think everybody was expecting Born This Way to be the greatest album of all time, I can't imagine the pressure she must have felt making it. I do think it's an incredibly decent record with some stunning highlights and way above most of her peers in terms of innovation and attempting to move pop forward. But people don't always want to listen to music that's breaking boundaries and boasting kitchen sink production. Sometimes they just want a strong melody and a great chorus and that's what the likes of Rihanna and Katy Perry are currently delivering, and are both at the top of their game in doing so. It's hard to see where Gaga can go next, she just needs to strip it back to great hooks without all of the overblown bells and whistles but then at the same time it would feel like a regression after The Fame Monster and Born This Way. Catch 22.
August 3, 201113 yr Oh dear, really? Gaga 6th? PINK ahead of her? Meh, Kelly Clarkson does it better! Rihanna ftw :cheer:
August 3, 201113 yr Is there any need for that kind of language just because someone doesnt agree with you. And this is hardly an arguement. Its a discussion regarding two different views on an artist You're right, my bad. I just disagree, but it's pointless to carry on... it will only continue in a circle.

August 3, 201113 yr I think the only influential thing about Britney's image was the schoolgirl look. Having said that, her image is far more influential than her music - which says a lot. Glad that neither Adele nor GaGa are going to win this year. Britney better be next. She better not win.
August 3, 201113 yr 7th was really the highest Adele could have gone without it getting a tad ridiculous I'd say. I still think '19' was an album that relied on the singles too much, everything else was just a little bit too bland. '21' is of course brilliant, even if ever single human on the planet is likely to be sick to death of it by the end of the year. Gaga sliding down to 6th surprises me, I did not expect her to win again considering the amount of bitch slaps's she'd received, but I do think 'Born This Way' was a very good album. Certainly more so than the abysmal first two singles would have suggested anyway. I've thought she'd been overexposed and overrated since mid-2009 so I can't say this played much of a part in me not voting for her, though there is a certain feeling around her now that the days of her being seen as an artist without the gimmicks are over. I want a Pink or Beyonce win. I'd settle for Rihanna and could deal with Britney. Katy would be a horrendous winner.
August 3, 201113 yr There is no way ANYBODY can say that the schoolgirl Britney was NOT iconic! I think thats where the confusion is. I do think its iconic, I just dont see her image in influential Edited August 3, 201113 yr by Dannyboy
August 3, 201113 yr I think it's incredibly difficult and subjective to try and define influence. It's easy to say something was iconic but how can you say for certain it was influential? I mean we can say with some certainty that Gaga's fashion has been influential, with a ridiculous number of copycat NOBODIES over the past three years thinking that they can dress outrageously and that makes them a good popstar. I don't think Britney's music has ever set trends but her very early stuff was a catalyst for a load of inferior teen pop. By and large her team have done good A&R for her and kept her relatively on or ahead of trend, even down to Femme Fatale and incorporating dubstep before any other global popstar could get a chance so she's not a bandwagon jumper at least. She does her own thing. I wouldn't say it's that influential but she's not exactly Cascada either, jumping on other popstars' sounds shamelessly.
August 3, 201113 yr Kelly at 8 is a shame, but in fairness she needs to release some music ASAP, Breakaway, My December and All I Ever Wanted are 3 amazing albums! Nice to see Adele up at #7 o wouldn't put her that high personally but she has ruled the charts lately so I can see why she's up there. Very surprised GaGa fell out of the top 5, I thought she would lose points thus year but I still thought she wouldn't be any lower than #3! A rather good top 5. Hoping it goes - 5. Katy, 4.Pink, 3.Beyonce, 2.Rihanna, 1.Britney
August 3, 201113 yr To settle the Britney argument, the fact that she is the only person in the Top 5 who has been making music for 10+ years shows how relevant and important to the music industry, and Beyonce fans, don't pretend you knew ANYTHING from Destiny's Child until "Bills Bills Bills" and that was a group anyway.
August 3, 201113 yr perfect top 5 (out of those 5) 5 Beyonce (to high!) 4 Katy Perry (a bit to high too) 3 Rihanna 2 P!nk 1 Britney Spears :D
August 3, 201113 yr Britney ahead of GaGa  oh well, to be fair to the former she has a far larger back catalogue and has been making a name for herself for well over a decade now. I don't need to go over the reasons I prefer GaGa, it's been said and said again by many people and I can't be bothered going over old ground. Of the five left, Beyoncé probably deserves to win on balance but I'm assuming Rihanna will.

This hardly settles any arguement lol. Noone is sayng Britney isnt relevant, That wasnt the original issue. And I dont get the Destinys Child point you made. Just because people may not know their first 3 songs, doesnt mean much.
August 3, 201113 yr P!NK now deserves to win this!! 1. P!NK 2. Beyonce 3. Rihanna 4. Britney Spears 5. Katy Perry
