October 6, 201212 yr As you say, it's not enough when you haven't got the legs to keep up with anyone. Spurs' second goal on Saturday was a perfect example, he got drawn out of position and a combination of Rafael and Nani on Bale is never going to provide enough protection. Manchester United have a very weak defence as it is. I just don't think Ferdinand has been anywhere near his best quality since 2010. Injuries have really plagued him. He'd be perfect at a team that play a deep defensive line, but he just doesn't have the legs these days. It doesn't help him that the likes of Nani/Rafael/Evra are not very good at reading the game. The simple reason is he just gets bullied by clever players. It's similar to Jamie Carragher at Liverpool. The latter has had more luck with injuries, but for the past two years he's been well below his best consistently. I hope like Carragher, Ferdinand realises his best days are behind him.
October 6, 201212 yr Given his form so far this season, no I'm not surprised Ferdinand has been dropped. A return isn't completely out of the question but I don't think it is very likely. There's a bit of a break after the next two fixtures so it is up to him to get back to somewhere near his best over the next few months. If not then he might as well accept that his England career is over.
October 8, 201212 yr Jonjo Shelvey and Ryan Bertrand called into England squad. Kieran Gibbs out with an injury
October 8, 201212 yr Eight Premier League teams have an Englishman as first choice left back, plus Glen Johnson who's been playing there and Bertrand. We're decent at right back too, Johnson, Walker, Richards, Kelly, Clyne, Jenkinson, Simpson, Lowton...
October 8, 201212 yr Shame about the centre backs now, odd since it's been our strongest position for ages.
October 10, 201212 yr England vs. San Marino sold out. Should be around 80,000-90,000. San Marino total population? 32,000 I think Hodgson will go with: Hart Walker Jagielka Lescott Cole Milner Lampard Carrick Oxlaide-Chamberlain Defoe Rooney
October 11, 201212 yr Worried about Scotland tomorrow against Wales, I doubt we will qualify but regardless it's a must win game. I can see it being 1-1 or 2-1 to someone. I would have more faith if Levein starts Rhodes & Fletcher upfront!
October 11, 201212 yr Lampard injured and Bertrand ill. Both could return for Poland Rooney captain vs. San Marino Worried about Scotland tomorrow against Wales, I doubt we will qualify but regardless it's a must win game. I can see it being 1-1 or 2-1 to someone. I would have more faith if Levein starts Rhodes & Fletcher upfront! I've watched Wales last few games under Coleman and they haven't looked great. Very poor defensively and not much in attack
October 12, 201212 yr England team: Hart Walker Cahill Jagielka Baines Walcott Carrick Cleverley Oxlaide-Chamberlain Rooney Welbeck (4-4-1-1) Subs: Ruddy Forster Cole Lescott Shawcross Milner Lennon A.Johnson Shelvey Defoe Carroll
October 12, 201212 yr Aggressive. Pleasing to see Cahill in there, his distribution means we shouldn't miss having the second holding midfielder.
October 12, 201212 yr Should be a very easy win for England hopefully. San Marino described by Clive Tyldesley as the 'Rylan Clarke' of world football. There should be at least a goal for England before half-time surely. Didn't Andorra hold England goalless at half-time in one qualifier?
October 12, 201212 yr Rooney has an uncanny habit of scoring for England in games where he plays dreadfully. Most England games, then.
October 12, 201212 yr Should have scored at least 4 to 5 goals in the first half, Hart could have taken a holiday if he wanted to, nobody would have noticed.
October 12, 201212 yr England weren't great, but a 5-0 scoreline will do What were you expecting? :heehee: :P
October 12, 201212 yr Good win for england tonight. Thought it was boring at times though.any idea if ghana are playing soon?
October 13, 201212 yr Back from watching the match, must say that it was an absolute disgrace. Gareth Bale is someone who I despise, If diving against Aston Villa wasn't bad enough he dived and earned Wales a penalty. He followed it up by scoring a fantastic goal, which wouldn't have happened had motivation not changed the match! Scotland dominated Wales and somehow had a goal disallowed, no idea how it was disallowed as it was not offside.
October 13, 201212 yr What were you expecting? :heehee: :P True but I expected more from a group of professionals at the highest level vs. a group of accountants, electricians etc..
