October 16, 201311 yr Looks like we'll jump up to 11th tomorrow, which seems fair. If they still included past record we'd probably be seeded. I'll reserve judgement on whether it's good to not be seeded until the playoff results, if they go the way we'd expect then the European pot will probably be stronger than the seeds. Going to be very difficult for teams from the other two pots to get into the last 16, although Chile, Ecuador and maybe the USA all look capable. I'd rather see Henderson in the squad than Barkley simply because I think he's more solid and more useful against the big teams. We shouldn't lack firepower against smaller teams so I don't see the point in taking a third Number 10 besides Wilshere and Rooney. The draw will be interesting not just for who's in which group but for where the matches will be - the tournament will be in the Brazilian winter but it makes near to no difference near the Equator so here's hoping for a group with at least two games in the south. You'd think that aside from Spain, who'll pass everyone off the park anyway, that's the only chance for European teams to compete with the South Americans.
October 16, 201311 yr Brazil, Argentina or Columbia. Germany if a European team win. Columbia? really? I've heard quite a lot of people say that Belgium will be contenders to win it.
October 16, 201311 yr Columbia? really? I've heard quite a lot of people say that Belgium will be contenders to win it. Yes really. The absolute dark horses. They're a good little team now, plus the continent advantage will be big. Belgium are the FIFA/Football Manager team. They've a great squad now, and I'm not sure how far their potential actually can reach.
October 17, 201311 yr This is very interesting about World Rankings: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2...dlies?CMP=fb_gu And I like this a lot regarding England's squad, it's hard to disagree with any of it: http://www.football365.com/f365-features/8...orld-Cup-Ladder

The top 23 looks like if everybody was fit, the 23 we would take to Rio. I do hope Carroll stays fit. He's a much better alternative to Lambert. Anybody else got an opinion on the Roy Hodgson joke? I think it's absolutely awful how much is being made about it. Would be very interesting to know which player leaked it to the press.

Did the person who leaked it claim it was racist or did they just pass it on to a journalist in all innocence?

October 17, 201311 yr I would say that the chances if Hodgson setting out to cause offence are about as close to zero as they come. Did the person who leaked it claim it was racist or did they just pass it on to a journalist in all innocence? Well the FA seem to think it was passed to The Sun via a third party. Whether this is the case or not I'm not sure. Regardless it's worrying it's been leaked to the press, instead of said player actually having a word to his manager in private. Could have saved a lot of embarrassment, and the Kick It Out brigade using the incident to fuel their egos.

October 18, 201311 yr Well the FA seem to think it was passed to The Sun via a third party. Whether this is the case or not I'm not sure. Regardless it's worrying it's been leaked to the press, instead of said player actually having a word to his manager in private. Could have saved a lot of embarrassment, and the Kick It Out brigade using the incident to fuel their egos. But my point was that whoever leaked it may not have found it offensive and so would not have thought it necessary to have a word in private. It could just have been a matter of repeating what Hodgson said at half time without it even occurring to them that someone might consider it racist. Then some idiot journalist sees the chance to create a story when there isn't one...
October 19, 201311 yr http://imgur.com/cI3FN2Q oops.. You could do a pretty good Where Are They Now feature on that lot
October 20, 201311 yr You could do a pretty good Where Are They Now feature on that lot  Just goes to show how over-hyped players can be though. I read some blog on the Guardian earlier. In 2006 everyone was crazy about Walcott and Lennon. In 2010 it was Rodwell and McErachan (sp?) at Chelsea.
October 21, 201311 yr I saw a link to this last week too, why England will win Euro 2008: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/2641675.stm You kind of see where it's coming from but MARTIN TAYLOR?! Portugal - Sweden Croatia - Iceland Ukraine - France Greece - Romania

Portugal - Sweden Croatia - Iceland Ukraine - France Greece - Romania Just reading the first few lines makes you realise how much we overhype players who have a few good games. That formation also shows the downfall on England football, too many attacking players, and the don't have enough defensive nous. You'd expect all the 'bigger' name European teams to go through on the play-offs. Croatia and Greece have been quite shit for a while now tho.
October 21, 201311 yr Croatia have already sacked their coach, seemingly forgetting they have a playoff to play. They're bloody lucky they're up against Iceland and should be fine.

They must have sacked him because of their awful record recently. They can't have been willing to take the risk with him taking charge of the play-off game.
