November 15, 201212 yr This was just sick! i think this is the best goal i have ever seen. Im sure it will be the most viewed video on youtube for the sports category. kbslWQh-R_U
November 15, 201212 yr I've seen better goals than that personally. The technique was fantastic mind, and it is certainly up there with some of the best goals ever, but a little bit sensationalist that everyone has called it the best goal ever. Dire defending from England.

January 31, 201312 yr I haven't bothered watching an England friendly for ages but I might make an exception for this one.

February 1, 201312 yr Odd that the centre of defence is where we look thinnest now and midfield has a few options. I'd probably play Carrick and Wilshere in the middle (provided Rooney is prepared to track back as a Number 10) but Lampard has proven that he's still solid and Gerrard's assists this season tell their own story. Worth a punt with Walcott up front?
February 1, 201312 yr Brazil will be all over us if we play with Gerrard-Lampard and Rooney as the number 10. Not sure who he'll play in the centre with Gerrard, possibly Carrick, although hopefully Wilshere.

I wouldn't play Gerrard and Lampard at the same time (except possibly with a holding player if we were defending a lead).
February 1, 201312 yr I think Hodgson will go: Hart Johnson Cahill Lescott Cole Cleverley Gerrard Wilshere Oxlaide-Chamberlain Rooney Welbeck I don't think there's been a match that he's moved away from 4-4-1-1? and Cleverley seems to always be picked even if it means playing him in a wide position. The same applies for Milner, but I think he'll actually miss out for once

The same applies for Milner, but I think he'll actually miss out for once I would expect it to be something similar. I'd rather Milner over Cleverly though if we're going to play with a tucked in wide player. So unbelievably unbalanced off the ball. I hope he doesn't start with Welbeck. Think he's the weakest out of the strikers England have, and I'm including Walcott in that too.
February 1, 201312 yr I'm not surprised that we always look roughly 4-4-1-1, given that 4-2-3-1 is the current fashion and we're effectively doing the same except with more withdrawn wingers since we set up for the counter attack against the bigger teams. I'd go something like: Hart Johnson Cahill Lescott Baines Carrick Gerrard Milner Wilshere Oxlade-Chamberlain Walcott I know it's become a cliché but we really do have a massive imbalance between right and left wingers - and yet playing Cleverley out of position in the former is apparently an option.

I think we're best suited to a 5-3-2 given our lack of width, and the good attacking abilities of our full backs. That said I'm not sure we have the CBs to play it. I hope in the future we don't play a 4-2-3-1. I don't think we have any wide forwards that are good enough (or want to) be a part of that formation. We also have no creative technicality ability in that area aside from 1/2 players. I hope the FA don't use that formation as a blueprint.

To me a three man defence is fatally flawed against teams that only play one conventional striker - either it's three against one and you're short elsewhere or you push up and get outnumbered and picked off. While our club teams continue with the four man defence I can't see it being a good solution.

While our club teams continue with the four man defence I can't see it being a good solution. Oh yeah it can be rally flawed, undoubtedly. But we play on the counter attack, but I don't think we have the right players to make the right choices to play proper counter attacking football. 3-5-2 can make use of our full-backs, who love to venture forward. Again, another problem is I don't we have enough central midfielders that are good enough off the ball if they lose/get caught up in possession.
February 5, 201312 yr Aaaand now we have no holding midfielders. Rodwell's been unfortunate with injuries but it's the same with Wilshere, we shouldn't be depending upon such young players.
