November 28, 201113 yr Cheryl Cole will still sell well when she returns tbh, she's by no means finished, I don't think they're really comparable apart from being helped by a tv show, she had alot more exposure than Olly anyway. Besides Olly will always have the annual X Factor performance, should tide him over. I didn't see that interview, who was that with? The thing is, contrary to what some people think, Olly has something of an inferiority complex and he sets low targets. The last one I heard him set was a couple more arena tours after this one, which he'll easily get, that's what keeps him humble I suppose. But he's going to have a better career than he thinks. I do think Olly beng involved with music programmes would stand him in good stead though. If TOTP came back for example that'd be perfect for him to maintain his profile. He's definately thinking of his music first from what I've heard from him in his interviews, I think he has alot left in the tank yet. Yes I just saw that got played on radio 1, quite a coup for him, I was shocked tbh! Universal's radio pluggers doing their thing, their artists seem well looked after. As for credit, Joe deserved credit for having the balls to put himself through another reality show. It's easy to sing covers though, you can churn out album after album with little effort. I'm sure you'd rather he came out with original material. It was opportunism from the record company although very shrewd. He's definately turned it around from a sales perspective which is the most important factor, selling more than the likes of the hyped Cher, but his public perception is gonna need a lot of work. Did you see 8 out of 10 cats the other week? Slagged off on that. And he was basically ignored in favour of Olly on Live at the Apollo. He's a nice guy, he doesn't deserve bad treatment. Yes I read about 8 of 10 cats. Olly got a lot of abuse on Twitter for his part in it. Even some Olly fans I talk to were disappointed. He also keeps saying he's the only XF Male to get a 2nd album (saw him say it on This Morning), when Joe has 3 as did Shayne Ward. Gay Radio tweeted today saying they are sick of him and told him to shut up :) Was hoping not to get onto Olly's character as we will never agree but I see him as extremely arrogant sorry, especially for someone so average. The interview was tweeted by Markmeets (showbiz PR person on Twitter) sure you could find it if u searched under that. I hope Joe gets some original stuff but don't agree it was easy to sing covers, especially for his Classic album. Only certain people can sing those songs. Olly couldn't sing any of them, with his limited vocal ability so certainly not easy. I think people make to much of artists having input in the writing of their songs too. if they are terrible & won't be remembered who cares who wrote them quite frankly.
November 29, 201113 yr Olly didn't say anything bad and I saw no abuse but I guess you must follow alot of highly strung Joe fans who think Olly can control what the most controversial comic in Britain Jimmy Carr says. Joe is constantly brought up in Olly interviews and he sticks up for him every time. You can't count Joe in the albums thing, he's bringing a new one out every 5 minutes now, it takes longer to release your own stuff. Yes he was wrong about it though cos Shane Ward did do at least 3 and a couple sold well. Thanks for that info, funnily enough I'm following that Mark guy anyway so I'll check that interview out. Cover albums... you pick popular songs and you sing them, it's that simple. When you're selling to grannies you don't even put your own spin on the songs you just sing them how they're used to hearing them or they won't like it. Joe can sing the songs on Classic in a few takes, he did most live on tv, so it's not exactly hard work is it. I mean compare how long it takes to simply record vocals to writing your own songs from scratch. I tell you what, the charts would be pretty boring if everyone just covered the same songs over and over instead of releasing original songs! Btw people do remember number 1 songs. Why would Olly be singing classical, he'd never want to as he'd rather sing stuff he's into! Did Joe even know any opera songs before he went on the show? Olly knows pop is where his strength lies, he's very self aware and that's stood him in good stead, not trying to be anything he's not and knowing who he is as an artist. In contrast Joe is still singing The Cimb at the end of gigs, a song most find cringeworthy and reckon was the beginning of the end for his pop career, that's exactly the kind of lack of self awareness that saw him flop first time round. Ok he was badly handled promotion wise but he steered the musical direction based on his personal taste.

I love it when people who bash Joe have to 'blame' the fact hes selling records now on "Grannies". I'm in my thirties and the six friends I went to the Royal Festival Hall with were all between 25-40. Not exactly picking up our pensions yet. Very varied audience. LOL saying I can't count Joe he's brought out 3 albums and last time I checked that is more than 2! And if even if you don't count CC Olly is still not the only one to have a second album is he? He makes me laugh tho I saw a retweet of him saying how happy he was with #2 coz not everyone had heard the song :) A-List on Radio 1, on our TV screen every week and why does he even need to say that, more people bought Rihanna because they wanted to pure and simple. He doesn't have a god given right to #1 LOL Oh and Joe's album is only partly classical which was why it didnt count in the classical charts. He only sang 2 of the songs on his album on the show too btw but don't let that stop you :)
November 29, 201113 yr No of course he doesn't have a god given right to number 1, but he was number 1 for most of the week til Friday, that's why he got so involved in it, he only expected top 5. He was saying that because so many of his fans were mentioning that he got number 2 that number 2 was trending on Twitter! He was reasuring them. Anyway some chart news you might be interested in... "This week’s market further throws the spotlight on the relative fortunes of Joe McElderry and Olly Murs since they finished in first and second places respectively on The X Factor 2009. While Murs’ new album should debut at number one this week, McElderry’s own brand new album, the UCJ-handled Classic Christmas, is down in 12th place." Don't worry, his sales should be good enough to keep him on his label, sales are still quite decent down in those places at this time of year. http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?section...1047676&c=1 Edited November 29, 201113 yr by BuzzLightyear

It's like deep down they know Joe's the talented one. Its also amusing that his fans behave the same way as him!

November 29, 201113 yr I'm continuing this from the other thread so it doesn't get closed... Think, stripping. Also, I heard what Olly said about Joe last week, which showed how messed up he is as a person. And he calls Joe his friend. Wow! Talk about stabbing someone from the back. But back on topic. You really do think Olly is the devil don't you, how dare he be more successful than Joe! Saying Joe is probably at home watching 8 out of ten cats when Jimmy asked where he is now makes him a messed up person? He probably was! It's hardly an insult. Good grief. And stripping off is dirty tricks? Wowza! Joe decided the direction his music went in, he had enough promotion to be a success, X factor performance etcc. Not enough people didn't liked his music first time round, that was the main problem. I was just letting you know where Joe was in the chart, didn't know it was in the other thread. :) I don't hate Joe, I don't even dislike him, he's such a nice inoffensive guy. In fact I'm grateful to him for winning which allowed Olly to do a JLS. He deserved to win the X Factor but the real music world is a very different animal. I've stated many times already I'm happy that he's doing well now.
November 29, 201113 yr At the end of the day, both Olly and Joe are talented, just because you don't like someone, it does't make them talentless. I don't like Joe really, he seems a bit boring, but I can respect that he can sing, he just sings music I have no real interest in :P Perhaps if he went this route with his debut, he woulda been more of a success?

But then we would have never got pop gems like Fahrenheit or Someone Wake Me Up. I like that sort of stuff, it's just a shame that the UK doesn't agree. It isn't expected for the X Factor winner to go down that sort of route, so Joe didn't go for the Classic thing initially. It's taken a bit of artistic evolution (read: luck and winning a second reality show) to get Joe this commercial success; he's done the best he can for himself, and we were never going to get Classic as a first album either. Hopefully Joe can continue a long career on the albums chart, everyone's happy.

Besides, classical music can easily be made a bit more poppish, like what Katherine Jenkins or Josh Groban do.
November 29, 201113 yr Tbf Wide Awake was a shockingly great album, I mean it was very hit and miss but it was pretty strong where it was strong. It's a shame the UK take to him as a boring (imo anyway) classic type singer and not a slightly more exciting pop singer.

It's a shame the UK take to him as a boring (imo anyway) classic type singer and not a slightly more exciting pop singer. Exactly. I ordered it off the back of loving Ambitions (Didn't realise at the time it was a cover) and Someone Wake Me Up later on, but Ambitions was not the standout on the album, there were about 6 or 7 songs ahead of it. And I was quite surprised. Like I've said before, I'm unfortunately not interested in what he's doing now, even if he does do Josh Groban and Katherine Jenkins stuff and makes it a BIT more exciting.

If someone like Take That had have sung it, it would have been #1 for weeks I feel. Never mind all ok now. I know some of you guys aren't the biggest Joe fans but his Classic album is only part Classical. Its more than half ballads in the pop sense a la XF. I think leaving the way open to go either the Classical or Pop ballad route going forward. Josh Groban's To Where You are is on the album and it's beautiful. It seems Olly and Joe are performing at the same event tommorrow... Joe replied: "@ollyofficial heyy!!! Just came off stage last show in newcastle!!! Been amazing sad its over!!! Ahhh thankyou!! :) see u tomo xx" Real animosity between them, I can see the scenes of carnage now. Edited November 29, 201113 yr by BuzzLightyear

At least say it to Joe's face Olly instead of pretending to be his friend, and say crap about him when he isn't even looking. I hope Joe knows to be careful because Olly is not a friend. Don't make stuff up, and get your facts straight. Are you really going to defend that disgusting behavior? Really? Speaks a lot about you as a person if you think this is right of a "friend" to do. If my friend did that, we won't be friends anymore. That is called talking behind your friend's back. That is NOT what friends do. And by the way, Joe has NEVER said anything bad about Olly. Never USED him for the camera, never USED him to make fun, never USED him for publicity, and supported him like a FRIEND should. Really shows you what type of "friend" Olly really is. Yes, Joe should not work hard and prove himself and public through his TALENT alone why he should win. Yes, Joe decided to sign with Syco since it is mandatory as the winner of the show. Yes, Joe had control of Syco giving him only 2 weeks of promotion, only an X Factor performance, no airplay support, and no additional marketing support. -----------------------> Compared to Alex with ~6 weeks of promotion, gigs, airplay, and talk show gigs. :o -----------------------> Compared to Olly, 2 months of promotion, a lot of gigs, full radio tour, etc. :o -----------------------> Compared to Leona, ~5 weeks of promotion, gigs, signings, etc. :o And these are only a few examples. :o Yes, Joe has so much promotion. Yes, Joe decided on his direction, when he SAID himself that he would like to do pop-rock. -----------------------> Like Shayne after 3 years of recording, releasing a cover under the guidance of Simon. And how nice of Simon to drop him right away when Simon was the one that chose that single and material for his album. :o -----------------------> Or Leona, when her album is pushed back for about 3 years now, and only had 1 (ONE) tour. How long has she been an artist? :o Get your facts right. Do some research. And stop making stuff up. It really happened. Look it up. And if Syco horrible history with artists can't get through to you..... Then you have Universal, to bring this all to light with how successful they are. :) LOL! Come on. Olly has no talent. And I am not saying that to be mean. It's the truth. He has an average voice, and nothing to him. It is all about marketing. I can find millions of these types of people. Katie Price makes more money than Colin Firth. Jersey Shore is more successful than Mad Men, and Modern Family. Doesn't mean they are respected in the industry. They are laughed at. Olly can make all the money he wants and Syco can be crap to Joe, but they can never take away his genuine real talent. Joe proved he is a major talent, while Olly showed that if you throw a lot of money at anyone, you can easily fool people. When Simon says bark, Olly asks how loud. By the way, I actually never have anything against Olly in the beginning, but when he pulls shit like this (and this is not the first time), he really shows his true color of how fame hungry he is, and disgusting of a person he really is. You do realise that shows like, and including, 8 out of 10 Cats are scripted? So the "disgusting" comment that Olly made was not written by him, and even just from looking at his face, you could tell that he was uncomfortable with saying it.... So I think some dramaqueens need to stop blowing a TV show out of proportion! I never knew there were so many Joe loons on this site :manson:
November 30, 201113 yr This whole thread is being blown out of proportion. I don't want a Joe vs Olly bashing mudpit fight, especially on their FRIENDSHIP status and how fame hungry each is. Get some perspective people. I'm actually quite tempted at the moment to close this thread too. So Joe loons, Olly loons, everyone calm down. You're free to carry on the debate, as long as you try and tone it back a bit.
November 30, 201113 yr As Eyes says this thread is spiralling out of control, if I don't see some proper discussion in here soon I will close it for a few hours.
