Too Busy Thinking About My Baby was the double a-side to It's The Way You Make Me Feel according to Polyhex where I got the list although I didn't recall that it had been either :o

Slightly off topic but in reference to Spiidey's comments, it's something I've always wondered - what on EARTH caused Who Let The Dogs Out to vault to #2 after initially moving 13-14? I wonder where the sudden huge interest came from in those four days between the Tuesday midweek of the third week and four days later?

I remember at the same point in time, it suddenly became a HUGE obsession with every person in school. You'd hear it constantly chanted across the playground, in class, by big groups of people etc. It didn't let up for months, I hadn't seen anything like that before.

I've read before (can't remember where, I read an awful lot of random things in all sorts of random places that stick with me!) that Woolworths didn't stock the single at all for its first two weeks on the chart; the week it climbed to #2 was the first week they did which undoubtedly must have been a factor if so. However, I didn't buy my singles from Woolworths as my local one was too far away for ickle ol' me (it was ASDA or bust instead >_<) so I can't exactly confirm this based on my own experiences. I do know the record got f*** all support other than from The Box pre-release though so perhaps it was also a case of it needing to enter the charts to attract a bigger audience (compared to many other The Box-only singles which let's face it, nobody else cared about!)

I do think it's a shame that it got beaten to #1 by Stomp purely because it had already "wasted" two weeks sales before going to #2. Not because I actually like it, although I do prefer it to Stomp, but because the record was so huge in general in terms of sales and cultural impact, whereas Stomp practically had no attention from outside of their fanbase (isn't it actually one of their LOWEST-SELLING hits too?). Plus Who Let The Dogs Out? was still in the top 10 the week It's The Way You Make Me Feel was released and got to #2 for crying out loud!!!

I do recall something similar actually. We had similar ones at my school a year later with 'Do you really like it, is it is it wicked, I'm lovin' it lovin' it lovin' it' And the whole 'wasssuuuuuupppp' craze was around the same time as well with a couple of minor hit singles referencing that although it was more of a cultural reference thing from an advert as opposed to coming out of a hit single.

Oh! Goes some way to help explaining it actually, I bought nearly all of my singles in Woolies, we used to go every Monday after school practically every week between 1999-2002 and then I went of my own accord every Monday from about 2003-2005, I'd be annoyed if I couldn't see the new singles on a Monday, I'd always waited for WEEKS for these songs to come out after all

Yeah I know what you mean, Stomp was a non-#1 if ever there was one, Steps sadly had so many midweek and 'almost' #1's yet the one time fate was on their side was when they barely squeaked past 50k, which was awful for a chart topper in 2000. Most Steps songs had no cultural impact though to be fair  I was trying to think earlier of the singles of theirs that I can actually remember being discussed amongst my social group when I was at school and it was pretty much -> 5,6,7,8, Last Thing On My Mind, Tragedy and Chain Reaction. I remember being worried in the week that Breathless by The Corrs and When I Said Goodbye by Steps were released in the same week - I'd read on Teletext that they were neck and neck for #1 in the midweeks and prayed for a Corrs victory and first chart topper - in the end, the latter fell back to #5 by the weekend, if only I'd known their tendencies to crash between the midweek and official charts then I'd have not been on such tenterhooks all week!

I didn't even know a STEPS rate was legal? But seeing as it is here are the votes of Gezza......

02 5, 6, 7, 8- DREADFUL- does anyone remember them performing this on "Central Weekend" when they were discussing the new phenomenon of Line Dancing?- It was a slow week

03 Last Thing On My Mind- getting better- keep going.....

09 One For Sorrow- Finally- officially a supreme track and the moment when the UK went Steps crazy!

05 Heartbeat- Virtually unplayed at the time- now a better song for it

04 Tragedy- MMM didn't mind it at the time BUT it was horrendously overplayed by Feb 99 and just needed to leave the chart- it didn't

06 Better Best Forgotten- not bad really, inoffensive enough

01 Thank Abba For The Music- and that mark is purely for Tina Cousins....

03 Love's Got A Hold On My Heart- there's a fine line between camp and just blatent gay tastic and this crossed it!

05 After The Love Has Gone- quite poor really....

02 Say You'll Be Mine- yeah "Don;t waste my precious time"...

02 Better The Devil You Know- POOR version of an absolute Gem!

08 Deeper Shade Of Blue- Wow what a return to form- one of 2000's finest....

05 When I Said Goodbye- a passable ballad actually and much better than....

-1 Summer Of Love- If anything says gay club in 2000 this is it.

02 Stomp- Wow what a slide in form....

10 It's The Way You Make Me Feel- A forgetten classic, flawless pop

01 Too Busy Thinking About My Baby- Words truly are not enough

03 Here And Now= pedestrian

11 You'll Be Sorry- LOVED this at the time and I can confirm it remains a shining beacon of pop profundity

07 Chain Reaction- i tried to hate this- I can't- that's because it's bloody great

09 One For Sorrow (2001/Tony Moran US mix)- a remix as good as the original- yes it's true

04 Words Are Not Enough- out with a fizzle rather than a bang

03 I Know Him So Well- meh!

01 Faye Tozer

02 Claire Richards

03 Lee Latchford-Evans

04 Ian 'H' Watkins

05 Lisa Scott-Lee- I had to look up the word I needed for her in the dictionary and I found it "Desperate"

Ah but weren't the charts more exciting back in those days- oh the suspense! :D :D

Who could forget this?
