U2 frontman Bono recently suffered a health scare after coming down with heart palpitations in the south of France.

The singer spent a number of hours at the Princess Grace Memorial Hospital in Monaco last Wednesday (August 17) after complaining of chest pains.

The singer wasn't kept in overnight but the Irish Independent reports that a leading heart specialist examined Bono and told him to get plenty of rest.

He was later spotted on Friday night (August 19) relaxing in Monaco's nightspot Saas Cafe with his wife Ali Hewson, Julian Lennon and Irish designer John Rocha.

This is the second health scare Bono has suffered over the last year. In 2010 he was forced to pull U2's headline performance at Glastonbury because he had to undergo emergency back surgery.

The band recently wrapped up their mammoth 360° Tour world tour in Canada. The jaunt grossed a record-breaking $736,137,344 (£448 million).

I hope he is listening to doctors and getting plenty of rest.

They wouldn't let him out of hospital if it was serious would they

Julian Lennon: Bono's Chest Pain Scare is False Alarm

Posted: August 21, 2011

By: Sherry Lawrence

The Irish Independent reports that Bono was taken to a Monaco hospital on August 17 after complaining about chest pains to his wife, Ali. After 48 hours of testing and observation, his heart doctor told him that he should take plenty of rest and discharged him. He was seen having dinner on Friday evening in Monaco with Ali, Julian Lennon and Irish designer John Rocha.

UPDATE: Julian Lennon has posted the following on his Facebook page:

For those whom are fans of Bono, the recent reports about him going to hospital with chest pains this weekend, were completely false & just the media trying to stir things up, as usual... He did, however, go for a regular check up last week, but was given the all clear! He's in fine form!

UPDATE #2: U2.com has also refuted the original story with a statement that says, in part:

Bono is in good health and enjoying a family holiday in the south of France. The sighting of Bono at Princess Grace Hospital was due to a routine check up.
