Are there any Gillian Welch fans on here? Her new album The Harrow and The Harvest came out in June this year, so maybe this thread is a little late but I wanted to start one up for discussion.

I don't know if there's anyone here who's heard of her at all but she's one my favorite folk artists. Personally I think she has a really good voice, & she works so well together with David Rawlings.

 

This album quickly became my favorite of hers so far, it's so beautiful and so honest. Great one to play late at night as well. The opener Scarlet Town is one of my favorites, as are The Way It Goes (because of the lyrics) and the haunting 6 and a half minutes long Tennessee.

The album cover is absolutely stunning as well (hence I used it as my avatar).

 

Deffo my favorite album of 2011 so far. I want to go to her/their concert in November but it coincides with a very busy week (have alot of work and exams for my study that week so..) and then once again there is the fact that I don't want to go to a concert on my own so I probably end up not going :lol: :(

 

I needed a second album in the 2 for £10 deal on Amazon so I opted for this seeing as you recommend it highly... will let you know what I think. :D

Woah that's surprising. I hope you did some research to see if it would 'fit' you before you went and ordered it. Nonetheless I really hope you'll like it, it has great reviews from critics so far. Lemme know what you think indeed!

The other album was £7.99 on it's own so I was only gambling £2.01 on it really anyway... listening now and I do like it, sounds like it will make a really nice evening album - it's pretty much as I expected it to be from the clips, plus I remember liking a fair few things you've said you liked so I thought it was a reasonably safe bet. :D
