September 10, 201113 yr Aagh! Four of my favourite songs of the decade in a row there! It's difficult to decide which I prefer out of 'Crazy in Love' and 'Whenever, Wherever', but they were just perfect songs to launch the respective artists. I've never liked 'Call the Shots' as much as most people, but over time I've grown to love it more and more, and love that's it's now somewhat of a classic. I'm pleased Britney's managed to climb again with 'Everytime', it's the perfect ballad for her, and I was always so surprised to learn that it was a #1. Of the songs left, I'd like 'Umbrella' or 'Toxic' to win :D I'm surprised at how many songs are going to repeak though! :o
September 10, 201113 yr For me, I would like to see either Hey Ya or Feel Good Inc to win because they are my favourite two out of the 15 left and it would be nice to see a song which isn't necessarily buzzjack friendly to win it. Edited September 10, 201113 yr by gilly010
September 10, 201113 yr Well only one of the 2007 songs left was from the first few months of the year so I suppose, although Umbrella was released in May it was still number one in August so I'm not sure whether you consider that first or second half. Looking at who will like the top 25 most, both Cremey and Dandy* voted for 18 of them, the most, whilst you voted for the least, just 8. I was just thinking aloud really, I don't really care for or even considered Umbrella! Was moreso thinking about With Every Heartbeat, Song 4 Mutya, Rule The World, Bleeding Love, About You Now, Call The Shots, Valerie etc... and then two of my late 2007 personal favourites - Believe Again and Love Song. For me it was a seriously insane time for amazing songs. That's not very good news, obviously my tastes are rather out of sync with BJ here
September 10, 201113 yr Top 15! Out of those, I'd most like Feel Good Inc (although that got a victory in 21st #2s rate, so I won't be devastated if it doesn't), Viva La Vida or Umbrella, although With Every Heartbeat, Mr Brightside, SUBG and Freak Like Me would be amazing as well. So many new peaks as well. :D
September 11, 201113 yr I would like Gwen, Rihanna or Gorillaz to win it - although I think the winner will be either The Killers or Robyn. Lady GaGa doesn't have much of a chance and Britney is getting a bit old
September 11, 201113 yr Author I would like Gwen, Rihanna or Gorillaz to win it - although I think the winner will be either The Killers or Robyn. Lady GaGa doesn't have much of a chance and Britney is getting a bit old Old? It's from the same year as one you think will win! ;)
September 11, 201113 yr Old? It's from the same year as one you think will win! ;) Yes, but The Killers have been a climber and Britney has won it before and been T10 in just about every game. Britney will likely be top 5 but Kilers have a bigger chance of winning especially with more indie fanz voting in this
September 11, 201113 yr Author Maybe, but despite more indie fans voting this year it's not had any effect on the songs which were already high up, Arctic Monkeys and The Killers have already fallen.
September 11, 201113 yr Author 15 - 51 Coldplay 'Viva la Vida' (15-51-15) (285 points) UK #1 dvgZkm1xWPE&ob For such a huge band and on a worldwide scale, it took Coldplay a long time to get their first number one. Previous lead singles had stalled in the runner-up position behind Darius Danesh and the Crazy Frog, so it was perhaps understandable that for album number four they took a more unconventional strategy to releasing pre-album singles so nothing would be expected. Violet Hill came first and was given away on their website, but not everyone took advantage of this fact and when release to download sites it still entered the chart at #8 and spent three weeks in the top 10. Also released before the album was the superior Viva La Vida, but as it was also given away when you pre-ordered the album it was originally chart ineligible, but once the album was released it could enter the chart and became their long awaited first number one single. It's gone on to become one of their most loved songs and added to an ever growing list of songs that could be described as their signature song, and continues to enjoy finishing in places here with the numbers 1 & 5, climbing from 51 to 15 where it debuted two years ago.
September 11, 201113 yr Author 14 - 32 Sugababes 'Freak Like Me' (33-91-47-151-32-14) (286 points) UK #1 dSAGsiVSoeE&ob A top 200 ever present this is its fourth appearance in the final. Last year it finally made it higher than its debut position of #33, albeit by only one place, but this year makes an impressive 18 place climb to become the only song of theirs which didn't fall this year. They may have had a poor two years and are now wholly irrelevant with no original members but they do still have 8 top 200 entries in this competition, which is no mean feat. They racked up six number ones in a career which has spanned over a decade so far, Freak Like Me being their first as they began to establish themselves as a force in the world of pop.
September 11, 201113 yr Only #17 for Call The Shots? One of the only times I'm disappointed in BuzzJack not living up to its stereotype. Disappointed Coldplay didn't re-peak but at least it is back to its peak and hopefully it can climb next year. Hoping for Mr. Brightside to be top 3. Edited September 11, 201113 yr by Bré
September 11, 201113 yr Author 13 - 39 Nelly Furtado 'Say it Right' (02-08-39-13) (287 points) UK #10 6JnGBs88sL0&ob As 10 of last years top 15 fell out this year it was always obvious there would be some large climbers, and another appears now as Nelly Furtado's Say It Right is her highest entry once again, climbing back up 26 places after being in the top 10 in the two years previous to last. After taking the common second year fall Say It Right has obviously climbed back up the affections of people like it was in 2007. It may have been the fourth single off her album Loose but still managed to be a top 10 hit, despite being one of the first high profile releases to have no physical release at all, and spent 12 weeks longer in the top 75 than any of the previous three singles. It was the perfect song for Nelly, appealing to those who were fans of her earlier material as well as still being well loved by her new more urban sound.
September 11, 201113 yr Author 12 - 11 Kelly Clarkson 'Since U Been Gone' (18-26-19-03-11-12) (303 points) UK #5 R7UrFYvl5TE&ob Despite Kelly Clarkson's other final entries from last year taking large falls and being placed outside the top 100, Since U Been Gone continues its excellent run by falling only one place from last year. In 2005 long runners were no where near as common as they are now but downloads had started to slow down the charts a bit, so the 37 consecutive weeks this spent in the top 75 was one hell of an achievement at the time, although it was a consistent if not high seller with only 13 of those weeks being inside the top 40, and 7 of those in the top 10 between its peak of #5 and #7. It was a huge hit worldwide and helped its parent album Breakaway to sell millions of copies over the globe, helping Kelly to become a huge star, with success she's got no where near to replicating since.
September 11, 201113 yr Author 11 - 59 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc.' (40-136-89-X-59-11) (303 points) UK #2 pw8PpYBiDsc&ob Released just after downloads were introduced allowed in the chart, Gorillaz were quite innovative in allowing this song to chart early. Original rules were that downloads could only be counted if there was a physical release as well, so four weeks before its planned physical release and not long after being sent to radio Gorillaz released a limited edition vinyl of Feel Good Inc. which saw it have an early chart run of 22-21-22-20 before climbing to its number 2 peak, stuck behind Akon & The Chipmunks. If Kelly Clarkson's 37 top 75 weeks in 2005 were impressive then the 39 consecutive spent in the chart by Fell Good Inc was even better. After debuting with Clint Eastwood in 2001 it was debatable how far the Gorillaz project could go, but with the album Demon Days they managed to become even bigger than they were first time around and the album produced three big top 10 hits. They've since fallen by the wayside in terms of success but the usual array of guest stars helped Plastic Beach to be at least as good as anything they'd done beforehand.
September 11, 201113 yr Author 15 - 51 Coldplay 'Viva la Vida' 14 - 32 Sugababes 'Freak Like Me' 13 - 39 Nelly Furtado 'Say it Right' 12 - 11 Kelly Clarkson 'Since U Been Gone' 11 - 59 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc.'
September 11, 201113 yr I love the sample in Freak Like Me  Are Friends Electric was a massive number one too, it deserved it. I find Say It Right very overated, I much prefer her number one Maneater and her Timbaland collab Promiscuos. Feel Good Inc is amazing, one of my favourites of that year. I now appreciate it more than Akon 'Lonely', which I loved at the time as well as Crazy Frog :P I was hoping it got top ten :( :( Edited September 11, 201113 yr by danielXF
September 11, 201113 yr Author Updated top 10 year breakdown, the top 10 songs coming from just four different years. Perhaps impressively, half of the top 10 are from the first half of the decade as opposed to 3 last year and 0 in 2009. 2004 - 4 entries 2005 - 1 2007 - 3 2009 - 2 Both Pavel and Cremey voted for 9 of the top 10 with Cremey giving the final 10 a total of 147 points, so will be most impressed with it. The voters least impressed with the top 10 are likely to be Gooddelta, JackJones and Rufcforever who voted for just three of them, although the person who awarded the least points was Alex!, just 36 points. September 11, 201113 yr I'm very pleased Nelly Furtado's managed to climb back this year. Whilst I do prefer some of her earlier singles, 'Say it Right' is my favourite from the Loose album. It's disappointing she never properly managed a follow-up (here at least), and whilst I do anticipate new material, I feel it won't be anywhere near as good as most of her material. I'm not sure how I feel about Sugababes repeaking; whilst it is one of my favourite songs of theirs, it's nowhere near one one of my favourite of the decade. Could you please tell me my stats for the songs in the top ten? :P
