August 31, 201113 yr Author 164 - RE Vanessa Carlton 'A Thousand Miles' (169-X-X-X-X-164) UK #6 Cwkej79U3ek&ob 163 - NE (163) UK #8 Up now we have the first song that reaches a new top 200 peak, that being Vanessa Carlton's piano ballad A Thousand Miles having appeared only once before in the first Record of the Decade some five years ago five places lower than its position this year. On her own Vanessa ended up being something of a one hit wonder but she did receive a featuring credit on the Counting Crows cover of Big Yellow Taxi in 2003, which with a #16 peak remains their biggest UK hit to date. There's also a new entry at the fifth time of asking for Beyonce with Listen. She's had many entries in here before but with continued exposure of the song in recent years, mainly on X-Factor, which saw it climb to a new UK peak a couple of years after its initial release.
August 31, 201113 yr Author 162 - NE Gorillaz '19/2000' (162) UK #6 KPZ7B_cB6LU 161 - NE (161) UK #1 The first of four Gorillaz songs appears at 161, and it's a first ever entry for their second single 19/2000. The Soulchild remix was used as the single edit and it was a marked improvement on the original, and certainly different enough from their debut to appeal to people who weren't fond of Clint Eastwood. After getting his first ever entry earlier with Dance Wiv Me, Dizzee Rascal soon gets his second thanks to his second number one Bonkers, with help from Armand van Helden. He went on to have two more number one records but unfortunately the quality of them didn't continue to improve, with last years Dirty Disco being a low point for UK number one singles.
August 31, 201113 yr Author 160 - 34 Green Day 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' (31-21-37-21-34-160) UK #5 159 - RE Killers 'When You Were Young' (71-160-180-X-159) UK #2 ff0oWESdmH0&ob After spending five years of being one of the most consistent tracks in the competition, Boulevard of Broken Dreams (a top 40 ever present but never a top 20) becomes the latest in a line of big fallers as it plummets all the way to 160. Whilst American Idiot was their biggest hit from their massive album of the same name, it was Boulevard of Broken Dreams which really delivered them as one of the biggest bands in the world at the time. After getting worse results with each passing year The Killers highest peaking hit When You Were Young finally arrests the slide to re-enter one place above its previous second highest finish. This competition this year so far has been a good one for the band, but can Mr Brightside climb from number 5 last year?
August 31, 201113 yr Author 158 - RE Madonna 'Sorry' (118-X-X-X-158) UK #1 B5OPMI13qng&ob 157 - 100 Jamelia 'Superstar' (44-94-38-124-100-157) UK #3 2006 number one Sorry from Madonna makes only its second top 200 appearance, after having three years outside of it, only three of her noughties hits have ever entered the Record of the Decade top 200. Jamelia's Superstar continues its pattern of up-down-up with a fall out of last years top 100, with it taking up its lowest position yet.
August 31, 201113 yr Author 156 - 111 (31-36-86-111-156) UK #10 155 - 177 Destiny's Child 'Bootylicious' (167-197-184-177-155) UK #2 IyYnnUcgeMc Another fall for the Sugababes although a 45 place drop for Too Lost In You is a bit more modest than the one which Round Round took. From their third era, it was their second single and a traditional ballad release for the Xmas market, although many thought it would chart higher than number 10. Its fall is less surprising given it's been falling every year so far. Bootylicious gains a new peak for Destiny's Child, a song with a remarkable run in the competition, having now spent each of its five years in a different "10" from the bottom 50, climbing to the 150s this year.
August 31, 201113 yr The Soulchild remix is so much better than the already great original of 19/2000. I'm surprised it's never appeared before, although I think a lot of Gorillaz songs were helped this year by moi. And loving the Killers continuing to do well. And then Madonna, Jamelia and Destiny's Child are all very welcome.
August 31, 201113 yr Author 154 - NE Katy Perry 'Teenage Dream' (154) UK #2 98WtmW-lfeE&ob 153 - 52 (120-X-62-52-153) UK #1 The first of only three Katy Perry songs is at 154. Her performance in this years competition has been something of a surprise to me. Considering how much she's often worshiped on here I thought she'd have more than three top 200 entries, only one of which made it to the playoff or beyond. I always found Teenage Dream to be a bit limp and nothingy compared to her other singles from this era. The latest 100+ place faller is for Take That, with their 2006 comeback single Patience. I'm not sure many people would've thought the band would still be as big as they are five years after reforming. There are still two more 100+ place drops to come, and both of those I am quite frankly DELIGHTED with!
August 31, 201113 yr Author 152 - 125 Cascada 'Everytime We Touch' (125-152) UK #2 4G6QDNC4jPs&ob 151 - 71 (43-X-X-71-151) UK #2 Surprisingly this is only the second year Cascada have been in this with Everytime We Touch, to me they've always seemed to be a lot more popular than this suggests, although a lot of people can't stand them too I suppose. There's also a first entry for what seemed like 4 million Rihanna songs, as SOS takes a large tumble from last years #71!

August 31, 201113 yr Sugababes first of seven entries in the competition is a 100+ place fall for Round Round, taking it to a new Record of the Decade low. They didn't fall out of the top 200 with any of their entries (other than Overload which had to) but they have taken many a tumble this year, and depending on their performance in the final could make it 7/7. Now you may not like them but it's a bit extreme to compare them to a terrorist attack! He had 3 more #1s - I assume you've blocked 'Shout' from your memory :kink:
September 1, 201113 yr Author Erm, yes. I completely forgot of Shout's existence! 5 number ones in just two years is really impressive these days!
September 1, 201113 yr Author 150 - 192 (192-150) UK DNC 149 - RE Royksopp 'What Else is There?' (135-X-149) UK #32 fhop4s3P3Gs Two of the least successful singles in the top 200, including the first of just two songs that never made the top 75. Surprisingly, both are from the same act, Norwegian dance act Royksopp and both featuring vocals from acts who are favourites amongst certain BuzzJack posters. The Girl & The Robot was the second single from their 2009 album Junior and featured Robyn on vocals, as she continued to be someone who released or featured on something on a regular basis, following the late 2008 duet Dream On with Christian Falk. To this day it's still baffling how the song even failed to make the top 200 here, to me it had every ingredient of a smash hit, if Robyn could take Dream On, Handle Me and Who's That Girl to the top 40 then surely this could at the very least match it? Unfortunately zero promotion or playlisting meant few people outside of the internet knew about it and as a result very few bought it, but an impressive 42 place climb for the least successful song in the top 200. What Else Is There was a christmas release in 2005 and became their joint longest runner in the top 40, albeit with just two weeks and longest top 75 runner with 5. Featuring vocals from The Knife's Karijn Dreijer Andersson, the original album version is incredibly haunting, but it was promoted with the Jacques Lu Cont/Thin White Duke remix which made it a much more radio friendly track.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 148 - 149 Daft Punk 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' (149-148) UK #25 gAjR4_CbPpQ&ob 147 - 135 (135-147) UK #1 Two songs spending their second years in the top 200. Daft Punk took some years before even though they were here most years with One More Time, it was a song that gained added exposure in 2007 after it was heavily sampled for Kanye West's number one Stronger. Speaking of Kanye he features on the other song here, one of those rarest of things, an Estelle song that didn't flop, spending four weeks at the top of the chart in early 2008.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 146 - 80 (113-169-X-X-80-146) UK #2 145 - RE Arctic Monkeys 'Fluorescent Adolescent' (93-X-X-145) UK #5 ma9I9VBKPiw&ob Falling from last years peak, Outkast's first of two entries this year is for Ms. Jackson, which became their first top 40 hit peaking at number two after spending four weeks in the chart on import sales. They went on to achieve greater success later in the decade, with the release of their next album, the double Speakerboxx/The Love Below. Arctic Monkeys re-enter this year with the last single of theirs to reach the top 10, 2007s Fluorescent Adolescent. It peaked here in 2008 before falling straight out, however over the years it's gone on to become one of their most loved singles so it's no real surprise to see it back again.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 144 - 186 Coldplay 'In My Place' (38-125-83-78-186-144) UK #2 yEoHFzEmld0&ob 143 - 138 (191-138-143) UK #11 Coldplay continue their ever present run with In My Place with a 42 place rebound following last years lowest position yet for the song. It was the first single from their hugely anticipated second album, and became their highest charting single, it would take them another six years before finally getting a number one hit. Plug In Baby takes only a very small fall for Muse continuing a good run for a song of its type. For an act who are so big Muse are slightly odd in that they don't have that one massive hit or signature song like most bands, but Plug In Baby is certainly up there as a fans favourite and crowd favourite.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 142 - 94 (182-X-X-94-142) #8 141 - 180 Girls Aloud 'The Loving Kind' (198-180-141) UK #10 lFY4DxiHzTI Hollaback Girl manages to remain in the top 200 this year but takes a 48 place drop from last years peak of 94. It was a very marmite song, with a lot of people loving it but it was a song which also was also disliked by more than most. It failed to continue Gwen's run of #4 singles but did make the top 10 which wasn't bad for a third single off an album. At 141 is the first of ELEVEN entries for Girls Aloud, they usually do incredibly well in this game anyway but with all of last years 8 remaining along with a pair of re-entries and a new entry, it's pure domination for them this year. The Loving Kind is first of those 11 which is a real shame, given it's by far my favourite single of theirs.

September 1, 201113 yr Author 140 - RE (117-168-X-140) UK #4 139 - NE Kelis 'Acapella' (139) UK #5 U8D9xCBcfzw&ob One re-entry and one new entry here. Missy had a much better year than usual this year, getting two top 200 entries with Get Ur Freak On moving up to its second highest position. Kelis hit from last year also performs well, I'm surprised at quite how well it's done actually as I didn't think it was that popular but I'm pleased to see it so high, definitely one of her best.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 138 - 28 (28-138) UK #1 137 - 156 Fergie 'Big Girls Don't Cry' (140-128-156-137) UK #2 agrXgrAgQ0U The penultimate 100+ place faller is from Kelly Clarkson, former American Idol winner with her only UK number one single My Life Would Suck Without You from two years ago. Like many songs it's taken advantage of a high place for a recent song but falls to a position more accurate of its strength this time around. Fergie continues a remarkably consistent top 200 run with her most BuzzJack friendly song, ballad Big Girls Don't Cry.
September 1, 201113 yr Author 136 - NE Peter, Bjorn & John 'Young Folks' (136) UK #13 51V1VMkuyx0 135 - 127 (68-X-161-74-127-135) UK #1 Well I am pleased I nominated Young Folks for the missing songs round, it was one of my top 5 singles of 2006 as it spent a week in the top 40 at #33, which at the time was a pretty decent achievement given the promotion the song had received. But the following summer Radio 1 got behind it and it was re-released and charted 20 places higher, spending 11 weeks in the top 75. Full of whistling and a catchy chorus, it's the most amazing summer sing-a-long! There's also a small fall for Atomic Kitten with their best known and most loved song Whole Again, number one for four weeks in 2001, its showings haven't been too bad over the years and it's by far their best song, much better than their cheesy covers.
