"Human" is great but I find it a bit overrated, not only did radio hammer it, but it was my moms fave song ever for some time :drama:. Read My Mind, Somebody Told Me and All These Things I've Done are better - I also like Bones, Mr Brightside, When You Were Young, Smile Like You Mean It (to put it in short they're the best indie band ever )

Btw, he STILL hasn't finished the Top 200 of 2010 points system  I'm betting on Christmas coming before the top ten starts :kink:

Anyway you're doing great on this :yahoo: Great to see that Tinie Tempah is as high as 123, I thought everyone here hated it. 'It's My Life' is one of their best songs - how did it only chart at 17  I have never heard 'Hoppipolla' (I have heard it's instrumental on the background of TV shows) but I imagine I won't like it because I love Chicane's version of it so much

I don't approve of the MGMT drop  Whilst 12 is way too high it doesn't deserve to miss the top 100 - it's a deserved future radio classic  If only "Walking On A Dream" by Empire Of The Sun had similar success in the UK, I much prefer it to "We Are The People" :(

Thanks! :D

I think both versions of Hoppipolla are fantastic, Chicane turns it into a really fantastic dance song, the original is pretty similar all the way through in terms of the instrumental, only with Jonsi's angelic vocals over it.

I agree with you on MGMT/EOTS. It's a shame to see Kids fall so far and I have always preferred Walking On A Dream, We Are The People is good but I've never liked it that much.

108 - 04

(21-01-04-108)

UK #1

107 - RE Stereophonics 'Dakota' (35-157-97-129-X-107)

UK #1

So the award for most surprising huge fall goes to.... Bleeding Love. It was a massive shocker to me when it looked like it might not even autoqualify in the 2007 game, and then none of the final five voters gave it any points which meant it fell all the way down to 12th. A song which has always had huge popularity on this site and even won the whole thing two years ago, falls over 100 places from last years number four!

A fellow number one re-enters the top 200 at #107, Stereophonics with Dakota, their only number one single, which has remained their most popular song over the years, both here and with the public in general.

Another huge faller now, this time for Anastacia with Left Outside Alone, it's another song which has been in the top 10 previously and has been an ever present in the final, but this year it could only manage 11th in the 2004 game which puts it 106th overall. It's joined by Gorillaz only number one single, although it has that title it's never really been their most popular hit and even though it's climbed to a new peak this year, they still have two top 100 entries to come.

I approve of the Bleeding Love drop  A massive contender for most overated song of all time. Nice to see Dakota in here too - one of my favourites of that year.

103 - 185 Kylie Minogue 'In Your Eyes' (185-103)

UK #3

Girls Aloud have their final non top 100 entry with Sexy! No No No as it falls from just inside the top 100 to being just outside it. It's their fourth entry so far and they still have another seven to come. They're joined by Kylie Minogue with the first of her four entries this year, In Your Eyes being the followup single to million seller Can't Get You Out Of My Head, it had never made the top 200 until last year and this year makes a huge 82 place climb.

101 - 118 Kelly Clarkson 'Because of You' (117-39-12-105-118-101)

UK #7

And the most unlucky person in the contest is..... Kelly Clarkson. Her two 2005 singles both being the songs closest to making the play-off round, both in terms of averages compared to other years and in absolute times as three songs finished just one point ahead of Because Of You, with Behind These Hazel Eyes being only four points further behind. She was hugely popular when in 2005 with a massive album and fanboys over the internet going crazy (if you think the loondom in the current chart battle is bad you should've been around six years ago) at everything she did. The success of the album Breakaway would never be matched again, she did get her first number one single but it was never really as popular as these and failed to inspire many people to buy her album. With only one song still to come this represents Kelly's least successful ever year on Record of the Decade.

Surprised to see 'Bleeding Love' fall so much!! :o I thought it was still pretty well loved ....

I'm surprised at Bleeding Love's plummet, although I'm quite glad (I'm sure you all know my feelings on that song so I shan't elaborate  )

I always find it surprising how well Kids did last year :o I prefer Time To Pretend personally (I also agree about Empire of The Sun, Walking On A Dream should've been a bigger hit :( )

That is surprisingly high for In Your Eyes, I didn't think many people were ever that into it :o I always preferred it to all of the other main Fever singles (I do like Come Into My World more though) so nice to see a huge climb!

Wow at Leona :o A winner two years ago and not top 100 now, shows how the musical landscape of BJ has changed. Admittedly of the 2007 pop heavyweights (Rule The World, With Every Heartbeat, About You Now, Call The Shots, Bleeding Love) it's definitely the one that I would choose to play the least now.

So getting into the top 100 we come to the songs which reached the play-off round but failed to qualify for the final. In the history of this competition we've generally seen it be more skewed to the songs of recent years, so it's no real surprise that 16 of 17 songs which performed worst in the play-off were all from the first half of the decade. The worst performing, racking up 136 points (115 off qualification) was Shakira with Underneath Your Clothes, the follow-up to her debut hit Whenever Wherever which made it into the final. It makes the top 100 for only a second time after a complete absence last year.

Also just inside the top 100 is the third of Coldplay's four entries, and completes the set of A Rush Of Blood To The Head singles making the top 200. Although it falls to its its third lowest position (it didn't make the top 200 in 2006) it remains the highest placed song off its parent album.

A re-entry and a new entry now. I've always thought Don't Let Me Get Me was one of Pink's more underrated and forgotten songs but it re-enters the top 200 this year in its second highest position, just 9 places lower than its 2007 peak. Pink had four songs in the top 200 this year, and all of them are in the top 100. Given their consistency in this competition it's perhaps a surprise that it's taken six years for The Killers to enter with All These Things That I've Done. It's never been quite as well thought of as Somebody Told Me or Mr Brightside but it completes the hat-trick of Hot Fuss singles making the top 100.

It's double Britterz! These are the first of her 5 top 100 entries to appear. Although released within 9 months of each other with a single in between, they were from different albums with Stronger being on 2000's Oops! I Did It Again and I'm a Slave 4 U being from 2001's Britney. She put out albums a lot quicker then than she does now. They suffer the rather odd symmetry of one climbing 21 places from last year and one falling 21 places from last year. My mistake regarding Stronger and Overprotected in the playoff may have made Stronger's position lower than it should've been but not much lower as most people edited their votes, only half of the rounds votes had been entered by the time I changed it, and everyone did get a PM about it 4 1/2 days before closing, so I take no blame myself!

There's a non-shock as a Sugababes song falls 33 places, although it's still a good result as it's only the third time Run For Cover has made even the top 200 and it's higher than one of these, so not too bad, and Dannii Minogue's most successful song completes a Record of the Decade run which sees it finish in the top 200 in each of its eligible 6 years.

91 - RE Michael Andrews ft. Gary Jules 'Mad World' (195-X-X-X-X-91)

UK #1

So the only song in the first 17 of the top 100 that is from the latter half of the decade belongs to Cee-Lo with his massive hit from last year Forget You. With a hand in writing by Bruno Mars the song had all the elements of a smash hit, and comparisons of Crazy meets Hey Ya! certainly weren't wrong. It had the incredibly catchy sing-a-long chorus of which there was even a naughty version, and it had one of the most gorgeous voices in soul singing it. A pure anthem that's so friendly to everything was always going to annoy some people, but it became the worldwide smash hit it deserved to be.

The 2003 Xmas number one, cover of Mad World which came out of nowhere, also makes a highly successful re-entry. A complete re-working of the Tears for Fears 80s song was everything a cover version should be, and proved to be a massively popular hit, something which it's never been able to carry over here until this year.

Two large climbers from 2001 here, the first of which is for Roger Sanchez with the number one summer dance smash, a position he wasn't able to get anywhere near either before or since Another Chance. The other is for Gorillaz with their debut hit Clint Eastwood, it only peaked at number four but spent 8 weeks in the top 10.

Misteeq have a small fall for Scandalous, which remains an ever present on this countdown charting 6 years out of 6. It's the only one of their songs I can actually recall now, even looking at the song title of their other hits none of them ring a bell. There's another fall for Christina Aguilera too with Fighter, which took three years to enter the countdown but has been in the top 100 ever since, this is the first time her two highest placed songs are not a single from Stripped.

After only missing out from automatically qualifying for the final by one point in the 2002 game DJ Sammy's Heaven never looked like making it through the playoff round as it was consistently well off qualification which to me was a pleasant surprise. Girls Aloud re-enter with No Good Advice, I'm really surprised it was ever out of the top 200, I've always thought it was one of their more well liked songs!

S Club 7 return this year with their cheese classic Don't Stop Movin', one of the songs of its type it's not considered embarrassing to like. It dropped out last year despite peaking the year before, but returns to a strong top 100 position again this year. Goldfrapp are also back with A&E, the lead single from their fourth album which became their third top 10 hit. It has a bizarre run so far, entering strong, dropping out completely and then returning a year later in a position in the same area as it debuted!
