The Manics have announced that before their forthcoming singles collection National Treasures they will be releasing as a single a cover of the The The track This is The Day.

I know the Manics have lost some of their aura of the last 10 years but this is a really good choice of cover for them and could actually be worth hearing. The singles collection will contain all of their 37 singles to date from 1990 onwards. So no Suicide Alley then but hopefully they be in chronological order. I expect I'll but it even though I have them all already

'NATIONAL TREASURES' is released 31st Oct as a double CD, a 2 x CD + DVD set featuring all 38 videos and some bonus video content and an amazing box set with 38 x vinyl finish CD Singles, a poster, a DVD of all the videos, 7” vinyl of New Art Riot, Suicide Alley, Jackie Collins Existential Question Time, Manics lipstick and vanity mirror and a limited number will also contain a 7” of Motown Junk. All the singles have been re-mastered.

The email I got from them specifically says 37 singles from 1990 onwards. As Suicide Alley was 1989 I'm thinking it may only appear in the box set and not on the 2 disc standard CD. Can't actually be bothered to count them right now.

Looking at the cover on Play.com it confirms no Suicide Alley or New Art Riot. Also the double As of Repeat, P.C.P. are missing as is Umbrella ad the 7" only single of Underdogs, the fan single A Secret Society and the original version of You Love Us

The box set will have 38 singles. The double cd wont, I dont think.

I will buy it if it's chronological but may not if it's non-chronological

First disc is heaven. Second disc is a bit 'whatever'
I agree. The final 7 tracks on disc one would probably be the best 7 consecutive tracks on any compilation.

Although the last four would sit more comfortably on disc 2 soundwise. P.C.P. You Love Us (Heavenly) and Repeat really wouldn't have weakened disc 1 either

I never understood why there was no video for PCP and why it doesn't get included on compilations. It was a a double A side. And it's far better than She is Suffering too.

Shaun Keaveney(spelling?) played it this morning about 7.20ish. It's probably on the iplayer or whatever but quite frankly they've taken a brilliant song and utterly slaughtered it. Probably their worst single ever, and I'm inculding It's Not War in that claim

Erm, I dont mind it but then I've never heard the original.

Pretty much Manics by numbers and would fit easily on to EMG, TIMT, KYE or PFAYM.

I adore the video. So many happy memories and it reminds me why I used to love the Manics so much. Watching it makes me sad though
