Robbie Williams stunned X Factor wannabes and Gary Barlow by appearing naked in front of them at the Judges Houses stage of competition.

Robbie Williams surprised Gary Barlow and the boys category by stripping naked at the judges' houses (picture: ITV)

The Take That singer – who is helping his bandmate whittle down the eight contestants in the boys category to a final four – is thought to have used leaves to cover up his modesty as he pulled the prank when he was presented as Gary's guest mentor.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'It was hilarious. Gary, the contestants and crew were stunned.

'Robbie just stood there stark naked apart from these tiny leaves.'

The joke is thought to have been the idea of the 37-year-old star's wife Ayda Field after she remembered Sinitta – who is assisting Louis Walsh and the under-25s in this year's series – pulling a similar stunt when she was Simon's guest mentor in a previous episode of the show in 2009.

The source added: 'Ayda has a cheeky side and convinced Rob it would be a good laugh. He was immediately game.'

Robbie was wearing a skin tight material known as 'naked underwear' to hide his manhood from the camera – and an X Factor spokesman said: 'Robbie clearly had nothing to hide from the hopefuls.'

 oh dear, not quite sure if I'm looking forward to seeing this.

No time for cheap gifts

Robbie Williams has splashed out £9,000 on a watch for his wife.

The Take That star and his spouse Ayda Field recently went to the launch of the Spencer Hart flagship store in central London and the actress immediately fell in love with the gorgeous timepiece, which has 3.5 carats' worth of diamonds.

Generous Robbie decided to buy it for her as she had become so attached to it.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “At the end of the night she couldn't bear to part with it, so Robbie bought it for her.”

Robbie wed Ayda last year in a ceremony at their Los Angeles home and has previously said married life has been great for him because she grounds him.

The 37-year-old pop singer - who has battled drink and drug addiction in the past - said: “Married life is a bit wonderful to be honest, yeah, it really is. Stability and happiness, I'm getting used to it but, you know, it was bound to happen at some point.

“Life feels different, there's like 15 per cent of rubbish that you're carrying round with you, well me anyway, that's just disappeared. It's great being part of a team.” -

M&S do lovely watches for 20 quid. That's where I get mine. -_-

 yeah, we all like to keep our feet on the ground, buying £9,000 watches is a normal every day thing.

If I had all his money I wonder what I'd spend it on

I think I'd buy a nice big house and open an animal sanctuary or somesuch. ^_^

X FACTOR mentor Robbie Williams has revealed he is too nice to be a judge on the ITV talent show.

The star, who strips naked and covers his modesty with palm leaves on Saturday’s programme  , admitted he could not decide the fate of contestants like his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow.

Robbie, 37, said: “I’d like to be in Gary’s position for one night, but not four months.”

The singer was speaking at the LA mansion where he and Gary, 40, were picking the final four male singers to go through to the live stages of the competition.

He said: “I was sat thinking ‘wow, this is great’. But that’s all it is, a great day.

“I’ve got my personality to look after, if I was doing it I would desensitise myself to the emotion.

“I would find it difficult, who wants to break a 16-year-old’s heart?”

Describing the X Factor as “the biggest thing in the universe when it’s on a roll”, Robbie said he did not think Gary felt the pressure.

He said: “He’s not temperamental and emotional. He does the job and leaves.”

Craig Colton, 22, Joe Cox, 17, James Michael, 20, Luke Lucas, 16, Marcus Collins, 23, Max Vickers, 19, Frankie Cocozza, 18 and John Wilding, 18 hope to go through.

But Robbie added some of them would be better off being axed now rather than being dumped later.
