Perhaps BBC finally (after 40 years of contemplating) received a reply from him saying he would indeed want to participate in Eurovision. And it was rude for BBC to decline and say that he's not SO RELEVANT ANYMORE.

 Sounds like that could be true knowing the BBC!

Oh dear! This is really happening! :o I do love these icons though :)

Only The Beatles and Rihanna have had more UK million sellers than Engelbert 'The Legend' Humperdinck, don't be jealous Pavel :o

UK installed as 4th favourite with William Hill :D

I would laugh if we actually did well/top 10/better than Blue thanks to the juries.

Love the user name! I think he could do an Italy jury-wise, but there's a chance it could be a televoting 0 points! Of course, we need to hear the song first :kink:

I'm sure Englebert would do well at Eurovision. It's not like he's got anything to lose. :kink: Plus, the fact he's been touring across Europe is in his favour.

I'd be gobsmacked if Englebert ended up with a UK top 10 hit 40 years since his last UK hit. Hey, didn't do Tony Christie any harm in 2005!!! :heehee:

To think that 80-something Lys Assia was in the Swedish national final too! If she, the Russian Grannies and Bjorn Ranelid had all made it to Eurovision to join Engelbert it could have been a real party down in Baku!
Its BBC cut backs they couldn't afford a decent act -_-

On the contrary, I'd imagine that Engelbert is having to be paid quite a lot more to do it than our usual z-listers :o He's not current but he still has a huge fanbase and sells out shows easily worldwide, which is beyond the reach of pretty much any of our entrants for a long time (combined!).

Shame  I still think Bjorn has a shot though, and I think the grannies are basically a given.

Anyway, I'm not that excited by Engelbert, but I'm not that disappointed either. Twitter seems pretty damn negative, and some of it is amusing, but people really seem to be forgetting that it's all about the song. Paddy O'Connell was on Radio 4 just now and said "he will give a charming performance, which will make people fall in love with him again" and "if you sing a beautiful song, looking into the camera, you can win Eurovision." A BIG HAND is in order I think.

Against Loreen and Danny?

I LOVE it but the international juries will kill Mirakel stone dead in the final, and he won't be winning the televote either.

Is it bad that I scrolled down, saw Release Me and instantly thought of Agnes?

Me too!!!

Well maybe not but I think people are SERIOUSLY overrating Danny.

That's a shame, I guess you're right, Sweden never really voted for the so-called novelty entries did they? Even though that there could potentially be two in the final after Andra Chansen

I will continue saying Englebert Humperdinck to myself. There is a huge amount of amusement to be gained out of it.

Considering I'd never heard of the man before today.

I want to hear the song now, I will try and like it, but at least we're not sending a nobody.

Danny must win, or I will be displeased!

However either Loreen or Molly will be accepted!

So I take it the BBC are going for more of a Jury friendly act after last year's result? there's one benefit to it I guess...

can't say I'm overly optimistic about that announcement at all though, this will probably be some Cliff Richard reject from the 1960s :drama:

Was someone on the BBC on crack?

As far as I am aware, never has a day gone by when there was someone on the BBC who WASN'T on crack. The Eurovision employees must have been going cold turkey, it's the only explanation I can think of.

I really don't know... I'm not massively hopeful, but I reckon the jury vote will do well for us. Excited to hear the song anyway!
