September 15, 201113 yr The fact is you can not compare the two acts so it was stupid to do so in the first place. Compare her to someone who is releasing music now, not someone a decade ago because both successes cant be measured against each other. You probably should have said that at first rather than "Spice Girls were bigger and that's that" though.
September 15, 201113 yr You probably should have said that at first rather than "Spice Girls were bigger and that's that" though. This coming from the person stating that Adele was bigger than the Spice Girls lol
September 15, 201113 yr So what other facts can we go by ? Because all im seeing its people using the words "estimate" "guessing" "may" "could" "should". These are not facts, just peoples opinion. The fact is you can not compare the two acts so it was stupid to do so in the first place. Compare her to someone who is releasing music now, not someone a decade ago because both successes cant be measured against each other. At the end of the year we could take the total album sales of 2011 compared to the total album sales of whenthe Spices' albums are released and scale appropriately which would give a fairly accurate and factually correct comparison. Until then, no, they can't be compared to any accurate degree. Edited September 15, 201113 yr by Bré

Until then, no, they can't be compared to any accurate degree. The only way I would say she was bigger album wise is if she could have 2 albums sell betwenn 15 million each. Then I would say she was a bigger album artist and has sustained it, just like the Spice Girls did.
September 15, 201113 yr This coming from the person stating that Adele was bigger than the Spice Girls lol I don't see how that's relevant! I wasn't trying to insult you but just pointing it out. And I do think 21 is bigger than Spice was, but as you said, that's my opinion and neither of us have any way of proving our opinions right.
September 15, 201113 yr I don't see how that's relevant! I wasn't trying to insult you but just pointing it out. And I do think 21 is bigger than Spice was, but as you said, that's my opinion and neither of us have any way of proving our opinions right. I never said I was right. I was just pointing out facts regarding sales. And my opinion.
September 15, 201113 yr I never said I was right. I was just pointing out facts regarding sales. And my opinion. Facts which are misleading because of the changing album sales environment, for the 10th time :P
September 15, 201113 yr Facts which are misleading because of the changing album sales environment, for the 10th time :P And for the 10th time, im not disproving that the music industry has chnaged. That still doesnt change the facts of how much has been sold. So how much is enough to beat the Spice Girls sales for Adele in your opinion ? 10 mil ? 12 ? 13 ? There is no way to work this out at all. Lets see if she can do 15 million and 12 million for this and her next album then maybe she can compete with Spice Girls As I said, its stupid to compare these 2 acts in the first place.
September 15, 201113 yr I never said I was right. I was just pointing out facts regarding sales. And my opinion. Facts are facts. Spice Girl were by far bigger Without trying to come across as a "YOU HAD BETTER PUT "IN MY OPINION" AT THE END OF YOUR POSTS OR ELSE" idiot, you basically acted as if your opinion was fact earlier on in the discussion and I think that quote is fairly good evidence of that. Spice Girls sold more but that doesn't necessarily make them bigger and in that post you said that they were bigger and there was no arguing that.

As I said, I'd consider Adele's album to be relatively more or less successful than 'Spice' when scaling it with the total album sales in 2011 compared to the total album sales of the year(s) Spice was big in. Say one album sold 10 million in a year with 200 million total album sales and another album sold 8 million in a year with 150 million total sales. The second album is relatively bigger when you scale it (i.e multiply by one and a third). Just an example. :P Edited September 15, 201113 yr by Bré

If you are going by volume sold, which I was. I was pointing out FACTS. The fact is Spice Girls sold more. So facts on VOLUME FACTS. They are bigger. We cant compare sales then and no becuase they is no way what so ever to do that. Lets do it your way then. IN MY OPINION. If this album can sell 15 million and the next album can sell 12 million then yes I would say that Adele was as popular as the Spice Girls were back their day.
September 15, 201113 yr I await the day that 21 passes 15 million then! ;) And thats just 1 album. Lets she if she can sustain the momentum like the spice girls did or if its just becuase she is the "in" thing at the moment
September 15, 201113 yr Album sales is a hard way to judge it, but I think its fair to say Spive Girls were bigger...jusge it on tour sales or something.
September 15, 201113 yr Album sales is a hard way to judge it, but I think its fair to say Spive Girls were bigger...jusge it on tour sales or something. Albums sales, Single sales, Tours, Merchandise, Endorsments. The Spice Girls were a phenonenom never seen since The Beatles and prob will never be seen again. You can not compare Adele to them based on one big selling album
September 15, 201113 yr Do people really think Adele will have another huge selling album that captivates the world as much as 21? I'd be very very surprised if her 3rd album even sells half as much as 21! Someone Like You has boosted the album so much, just like You're Beautiful did with James Blunt, and Chasing Cars with Snow Patrol.
September 16, 201113 yr Albums sales, Single sales, Tours, Merchandise, Endorsments. The Spice Girls were a phenonenom never seen since The Beatles and prob will never be seen again. You can not compare Adele to them based on one big selling album I just said you cant really judge on album sales and that Spice Girls were bigger...
September 16, 201113 yr I just said you cant really judge on album sales and that Spice Girls were bigger... I know, I has agreeing lol. I was just adding in the rest lol
September 16, 201113 yr Susan Boyle? :???: Honestly, though, it doesn't matter. Adele is just on her way to reaching the heights of those artists. Susan's first two albums combined sold more than Adele's first two in the US.....
September 16, 201113 yr Susan's first two albums combined sold more than Adele's first two in the US..... Give it time though. I think she will easily beat Susan Boyles USA sales
