I dont normally quote or post links to the Sun, but this I found particularly disgusting, and it's not as if the bloke can exactly deny it....

Who's the bigger beast?

MILLIONAIRE banker Sir David Scholey poses by the bloody corpse of a lion after shooting it for fun on a "trophy-hunting" holiday.

Other souvenir snaps show the Tory party donor grinning as he stands in front of elephant tusks and antelope and buffalo skulls during a big game hunting trip to Zambia.

Angry animal welfare groups yesterday described Sir David's trips as "sadistic and selfish" — but he said he saw nothing wrong in paying huge sums to kill exotic beasts.

He added: "I have been hunting all over the world for many, many years and I have always hunted within the legal arrangements of the country concerned. I regard that as an entirely personal matter.

"All the animals I hunt are wild beasts. And I have felt threatened by them at times.

"The lion I killed certainly wasn't an endangered species where I was hunting it."

Sir David, 76, an ex-Bank of England director and BBC governor, added: "Obviously, if I felt there was anything wrong in it I wouldn't do it.

"The object is to dispatch the animal with a bullet it never hears. That's why it's important to be a very good shot before you even think about hunting. I continue to hunt big game, not as much as I used to but I do continue to do it."

The League Against Cruel Sports said: "It is enormously selfish to kill magnificent animals for sadistic pleasure. It beggars belief that someone in a position of authority could think it's acceptable.

"If he is a Tory donor, they should seriously consider whether he is the sort of person they want associated with the modern party."

Pictures of Sir David with his quarry are posted on the websites of two leading African firms which organise shooting trips.

Safari Bwana charges punters £25,550 for a 24-day lion and leopard shooting trip to Mozambique.

Its hunts in Zambia, Botswana and Tanzania can exceed £62,000 per person because of international pressure to protect the animals.

The website of a second trophy hunting firm, Johan Calitz Safaris, shows Sir David in 2008 posing with the tusks and skulls.

The Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species places African lions just below those animals most at risk.

The part I put in bold just sums it up... It proves just how out of touch these people are with ordinary people if they think that there is nothing morally repugnant or "wrong" about doing something like this in 2011. If someone goes out into the forest and kills food for sustenance, then that's one thing, this is quite another.. Is this really something that the Tory party wants to be associated with..? Oh, hang on, they're considering the re-introduction of fox-hunting and talking about badger culls though, aren't they.....?

But, getting back to the issue, I think a debate should be had here about Big Game hunting... Personally, I think it belongs to a brutal and more ignorant past and should be consigned to the rubbish heap, along with people like David Scholey and Prince Phillip.....

It's a brutal and inconsiderate act, I am surprised that the Sun of all people mentioned that he was a Tory donor though.

I know, weird that, huh...? Do you suppose it's stung them slightly that Cameron and Co haven't exactly been sufficiently sucking up to them enough throughout the whole "Phone-hacking" affair....?

 maybe Murdoch's going soft and lefty in his old age :P

I suppose hunting for means of well-being is just about acceptable, but hunting for sport is something I oppose totally. Big game hunting is worse, its a sickening sport, killing an animal for means of pride and glory, it's like old time bear baiting - I thought Britain had grown out of this stuff - clearly not :puke: as you said, it belongs in the past

its also quite sickening to see the tories' attitude to this, not exactly great that they're considering bringing back fox-hunting when they promised to "protect wildlife and promote green spaces and wildlife corridors" in their last campaign

So, if Gary Glitter (or anyone else for that matter) went to a country where it was legal to have sex with young girls, would this dope think that was OK?

On fox hunting, I doubt the government will do anything in the near future. Most Lib Dems would probably vote against ending the ban and quite a lot of the new Tory intake also support the ban. Therefore, there is unlikely to be a majority in the House of Commons to end the ban.

Precisely....

Louis Theroux did an interesting documentary on this subject matter a good few years back. I found it very interesting. Especially the number of Americans who come over to these private game farms to shoot something that's been farmed to be there. How they find a cost for each different animal. How these farm owners get attached to the animals they are setting up to die for no real reason.

It's a bizarre thing to want to do to anyone normal I'd say and clearly has out-dated conceptions held to it about colonial rambling with nil thought for nature. Too much money, not enough to do with it.

And that's pretty much it in a nutshell... These types (who tend to be the ones who object to paying taxes too) just dont seem to have any idea what they actually want to do with the massive levels of wealth they're accumulating, they just seem to want to have it, for the sake of having it.... They dont even think about putting anything back into society, they just take from society.... They're selfish b'astards in other words....

Have you ever seen that film 'Hard Target'? An awful Jean Claude VanDamme film (partially saved by the almost always reliable Lance Henrikson). I get the feeling that these guys would love this kind of thing to be introduced today.

I wish I was joking.

Just think though - if 2012 does happen - then these rich, selfish gits will be poor in comparison to the Mega-Mega rich and will have to become their servants. I mean - somebody's got to clean the toilets! Pity us poor penniless sods won't be around to see it!
