Lovelight debuts at number 28

Rudebox is currently at number 23 (2 8 20 23)

I can see Ireland are loving Robbie. Bloody fickle public. Whats wrong with the UK and Ireland. Lovelight is a great track.

So I guess no free concert for Ireland then. B)

Yeah, shame on Ireland. Scotty, what have you got to say for yourself ? -_-

Well, I guess the Irish only want Rob singing his stadium anthems and ballads. Not really so much different from the UK, is it... ? <_<

Robbie Williams

Rudebox

Released: 23rd October 2006

Label: EMI records I’m just about the right age to have justifiably enjoyed Robbie Williams around the Rock DJ years. And you know what? I kinda still like him – he’s an entertainer, and he can sing. It’s just a shame that he won’t.

To be honest, I haven’t got a clue what he’s doing at the minute. If this is an attempt to make a serious pop album, it’s c**p. If it’s an attempt to take the p***, it’s still c**p – it just explains the presence of Lily Allen and the beyond-terrible lyrics. I mean, can the lines “dance like you just won at the special Olympics†and “As if I’m going to take one tablet. I’m Keith Moon, dickhead.†really be the work of a sane person?

Ignoring the terrible delivery of the frankly shocking lyrics, it has to be said that even the music itself is bad. Not in the way its performed, but the structure and the very style. ‘Good Doctor’ is based around names of drugs (the prescription kind), and the subject of ‘She’s Madonna’ really is as obvious as the title might suggest. Deep songs. Deep.

Clearly, involving Lily Allen is meant to take this album from a bad Stoke boy’s attempt at rapping to an indie-pop discourse on the state of the world, Arctic Monkeys’ style. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen. Robbie needs to learn that he cannot rap, and with an accent like his, he shouldn’t even try.

Too many of these songs are trying to be edgy, yet collaborating with the Pet Shop Boys has the opposite effect – who under 30 even cares about the Pet Shop Boys? Rob is falling into the trap that many artists panic themselves into after a few years at the top – recording what they think will be popular as opposed to what they’re good at. Instead of being cheeky, fun and a little bit arrogant, he’s trying to be ‘uber-now’, and it only serves to make him seem even more out of touch.

ROBBIE HOPING HIS NEW SINGLE SHINES

09:40 - 17 November 2006

It is a big week for our Robbie Williams this week, as he releases the second single from his much talked about Rudebox album. The first track taken from it, Rudebox, is what I'd call a "Marmite" track - you either love it or hate it.However, this second single, Lovelight, has got everyone talking for all the right reasons.

Some are saying it's one of the best tracks he has ever recorded.

Robbie has described this album as experimental, and as the album he has always wanted to make, having collaborated on it with people that you wouldn't usually associate him with.

Producer Mark Ronson, who has had a massive club hit with Ooh Wee, is the mastermind behind this single, an energetic funky soul track, which sounds like a cross between Jamiroquai and an upbeat George Michael.

The track isn't actually an original recording, but a cover of a relatively unknown soul tune by U.S. artist Lewis Taylor.

Robbie's version looks likely to turn it into a major hit, as it's one of his best produced singles to date.

There has been plenty of talk about Justin Timberlake and his so-called chart battle with Robbie.

JT's latest single is also his second from his latest album, Future Sex/Love Sounds, and again it is an album that has been described as experimental.

Following on from the massive success of his number one single SexyBack, My Love is a much more commercial track.

Again, it's production wizard Timbaland who is to thank for its exceptional sound.

Heavy on synth, with a powerful hook, vocal samples, and Justin's falsetto vocals, this track is unique.

Snow Patrol have managed to achieve what only a number of British artists have been able to do; have a hit in the U.S. Their track, Chasing Cars, has been used in a number of TV shows, such as ER, One Tree Hill, and Grey's Anatomy.

With it, the Celtic band became the first UK act since Duran Duran to reach the top five Stateside.

For their new single, Set Fire To The Third Bar, taken from their platinum album Eyes Open, they've now teamed up with U.S. female singer and songwriter Martha Wainwright.

This folky indie track has a real melancholic feel to it, which builds it up into a stunning, anthemic piece.

Finally this week, Oasis tempt us with a warm-up to a greatest hits album - their Stop The Clocks EP.

Featuring The Masterplan, which was originally the B-side to Wonderwall, it also includes Acquiesce, as well as some rare recordings of Cigarettes & Alcohol and Some Might Say

I thought Lovelight was 23 in the Dutch Top 40  :(

And U2 and Greenday from 34 to 1 :o

Well, I'm relieved it is top 10 considering it was #9 in the mids :D

However, this song is FAR more deserving of a top 5 position

I keep saying it and will say it again.

The recording buying public should be ashamed

I wanted it top 5, but I expected 9 or 10 for it so #8 is good.

How many #8 singles has be had now?

Oh god, ALOT

He has also had an increadible amount of #4's

Congrats Robbie!

Lovelight should have gone higher but the days of understanding the great British public are gone I'm afraid lol!

Oh well, I guess it's another Top 10 single for him. -_-

Part of me is relieved that it went Top 10 at all, but the other part thinks it should be a lot higher because it really is a great song. It's ironic when you think about it, even the Rudebox single which many thought was awful (personally I think it's a bad track compared to Lovelight) got higher. :o Maybe mainly due to the fact that people have already got Lovelight on the album.

And that's the next point, I wouldn't mind the singles position so much if the album was doing better.

Only in its 4th week and it's out of the Top 10... :puke2: I'm afraid we'll see it drop like a stone over the next weeks.

Oh and then of course, I'm awaiting a bashing in tomorrow's press for TT beating Rob on downloads.

Just hope it won't be too bad. The 3am girls will certainly have to say something about it, let's hope they'll be the only one.

I know Monsoon. I am just going to totally ignore the whole thing tomorrow :arrr:

Lovelight is Rob's 26th top 10 hit as a solo artist
