I should not. :P It's still relatively brand new to me despite knowing the song now for about 2 months. How BJSC has totally transformed my chart around. I do wonder if Lana Del Rey would've had the same success had I not discoverd the via BJSC but more via something like Chart Show TV. Most probably yes as the first time I did listen to 'Video Games' I was completely captivated - so much so that I played it three times on repeat. :D That's the makings of a song with big impact.

I'm really happy that Will Young managed to return to the UK top 10 even if it was down to the reduction in price on iTunes. Anything to help keep this single and parent album selling can only be a good thing in my eyes. :D Again, relating to comment above about Lana Del Rey if I hadn't discovered 'Video Games', Will Young would've been #1 in my chart for two weeks. I reckon Gotye would've still been #1 regardless because it's doing so well in Europe that I'm more than aware of the song.

Old? OLD?!!! :D This only entered the UK charts week before last. How does two weeks make it old. 'Chasing Cars' must be ancient then. :lol: I was very much 50/50 with this song and it had come close to entering last week but I didn't feel it was quite strong enough for even a #40 peak. However, I'd seen the video a few more times on TV over the last 7 days which has brought the song to my attention and I realise it's not as bad as I thought. It's certainly not their best single - far from it but I feel it deserved to enter my chart et voila.

To be honest, in almost 7 years of doing my personal chart no single has ever returned to #1. It's not exactly something I like happening in my own chart. I've had the odd occasion where a song has dropped 01-02, then held at #2 as other singles go to #1 and fall further (I know, shocking!!! :drama: ). Expect to see 'Video Games' around for a while - even if it limps in at #38 in the UK charts when it's released, this song is very special and my chart will reflect that.

Indeed. :o Who'd have thought this when it first entered at a more modest #9? :D It's just one of those songs that I didn't get at first but yet didn't hate. The more I've heard it, the more it's clicked. Can Sak Noel climb all the way to #1 for me? I honestly don't see it happening but who knows.

I agree completely especially after the massive success of 'Give Me Everything', I'd have thought 'Rain Over Me' would've at least made the top 20. It's doing really well in Europe at the moment so there's clearly some countries that love a bit of Pitbull.

 

10 (--) Dajana - La La Love (10) [1 wk] Not as impressive a debut as your previous 12 pointers, I suppose it represents a far weaker contest than usual

 

It's an odd combination of both weak BJSC but also extremely strong top 9. I'm sure that if I was to go through all my BJSC votes and come up with an overall set of votes Lana Del Ray would get the 12 points and Alexandra Stan would get the 10 points. Every other song I've given big points to would be battling for 1-8 points including 'La La Love'. Without wanting to come across as bigheaded, I genuinely thought my entry was the best track in the BJSC final.

 

15 (--) One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful (15) [1 wk] Not a bad debut, I wasn't sure what you'd think of this but I think it's a great pop song

 

What I like the most about 'What Makes You Beautiful', and similarly 'Beat Again' by JLS is that both of these debut singles have shown more personality in 1 song than what Westlife have shown in their entire career. I'm sure if JLS and One Direction had kick started their careers with some absolute blandfest of a song, they wouldn't be anywhere near #40 yet alone #15. Kudos to the record company giving them what it imo a decent pop song. Not the best pop song I've ever heard but better than most that have made #1 in the UK this year.

'La La Love' actually had a slight advantage as Tom entered this initially into BJSC XXXIV when I hosted. However, he changed his entry and ultimately failed to qualify with with his other track (that being some Alcazar track :lol: ). So when I realised it had been entered, it was already a song I was aware of. Usually if someone enters a song in BJSC that I've already charted, I feel it's no longer a genuine discovery and therefore I don't give it points. I take part in BJSC in the hope of discovering some new music I will like.

'Jag Kommer' was similar to 'La La Love' in that I was already aware of the song thanks to its success in Sweden. It's one of those grower types that if I'd only heard for the first time during the contest, I might not have given this my 10 points. By being familiar of the song it actually helped me enjoy the song more.

It's a promising debut single that's for sure. Yes, the lyrics are hardly going to earn One Dimension (or the songwriter) an Ivor Novello award but it's a catchy fun pop song. Simple as that, and hopefully future singles will be in this style. For me, boybands + ballads = FAIL, unless the song itself is actually excellent then a boyband can get away with it.

The video really enhances the feel of thos song. It very dark and quirky yet has a little commercial edge. So Gotye wasn't a grower for you? Was it more instant then? :D It took me about 3 listens for the song to click but after that, I really started to enjoy listening to the song. It's definitely a song that requires listening (rather than background music which just plays away to itself). This is a track that demands your concentration - that's how you connect with the lyrics but ultimately that's why I thought it was too subtle. I'm sure my new BJSC entry will be more appealing. :lol:
