Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave.

It was let slip almost a week ago but confirmed yesterday that he will sing the theme from the new James Bond file, Casino Royale, entitled You Know My Name. He co-wrote the song with composer, David Arnold. Its due for release in November.

He is the first male singer to sing a Bond theme since A-ha recorded The Living Daylights in 1987.

err...it'll be big in America, then.

Absolutely, utterly pointless choice for the rest of us.... and hardly the type of choice that would interest Bond fans young or old.

Goldfrapp would've been perfect - especially Felt Mountain-era Goldfrapp......

I liked Soundgarden and some of Cornell's solo efforts (but not so much Audioslave to be honest), but just how the hell does a Grunge act link into Bond ffs...?  It actually would've made slightly more sense to go for Courteney Love....

Cornell's hardly obscure, the man's sold millions of records (mainly in the US granted..), but he is a totally bizarre choice indeed, his voice is very gravelly and Metally, not really in keeping with the whole 'suave' Bond image at all, you'd might as well have Dani Filth or the Corey from Slipknot....

If they'd wanted that sort of deep male voice to do the theme, why not go for Ville Valo? His voice is at least a good deal smoother and he at least can do subtle, and there's a couple of HIM's ballads that almost sound like they could've been contenders for a Bond theme (just listen to the song he did with Apocalyptica...)

hmm well it's different as normally they get female singers with powerfull voices

he is nothing compared to previous songs for the bond movies! :(

:puke: Goldfrapp would have done a wonderful job. I've liked all the Bond themes so far, but this is not going to make an impact.

Ladies, let's wait until we hear it first!

I dont really think anyone's saying it's gonna suck as such, it's just not gonna be anything remotely resembling a proper James Bond theme.....

Surely it's time to ditch David Arnold and get someone a bit more imaginitive in there - maybe Neil Hannon/Divine Comedy, Nick Cave or Jarvis Cocker to write a Bond score...? Could be interesting....

Massive Attack / Craig Armstrong would be my choice..... Massive would do a beautiful Bond theme I reckon...
I'd love to see Kate Bush or Thom Yorke doing a Bond Theme.
good choices, too, Luciano... maybe Massive Attack featuring Kate Bush... surely a match made in aural heaven....

Massive are huge Kate fans.... and have apparently requested to work with Ms Bush.

I think they're still awaiting a reply... ahem......

dont think the divine comedy would suit the new hard edged bond

I'd love to see Kate Bush or Thom Yorke doing a Bond Theme.

or bjork and thom yorke  with some clatter band wallops thrown in for good effect.
