Yuor first point can be true, although I suspect it's more the case for bands with long track records.

As for the 2nd, I can't agree - Evanescence have had a #1 single, so they can hardly be less of a singles act than KJ. :)

I know, I wasn't referring to singles, I was saying that comparing with Katherine Jenkins and looking at chart positions, Evanescence are the bigger albums sellers of the two considering both their albums went top 2, and the second was only beaten by the Killers (who are more of an albums act than them etc.)

But how do you measure the solidity & loyalty of a fanbase, where the artist has only released 2 albums - the last of those 5 years ago? After all, Dido waited 5 years to release her 3rd album, and look what happened to that...

You can't 'measure' it. But Evanescence went to #72 with their latest single with no airplay at all which I think pretty much confirms they still have a fanbase even after all these years.

I can see Derulo, Evanescence and Katherine all being 3, 4 and 5 in any order.

What do you see being 1 & 2 then?

It's not exactly a busy week so all three should be top ten, James could get a third week on sales of about 35k unless Evanescence 'do a Bionic' and capitalise on fanbase sales and a quiet week to get a #1. Combining various pre-order charts (Amazon, HMV, Play, iTunes) Katherine's album seems to be fourth for next week's releases behind Evanescence, Jason Derulo and...Steps! :o

I'd have preferred to see Delta's version of this released in the UK but it's not like it was by any stretch the best song on the album anyway, that would be Believe Again, and it's a criminal shame that that never saw the light of day here.

I wouldn't have said KJ is much of a pre-order artist anyway, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

Hear hear - IMO Believe Again is the best #1 that never was.

Likewise Steps, who are surely likely to pick up more casual sales, although initially I didn't see them picking up any sales whatsoever with this album  Looks like it's heading for the top 20 though...

I could see Katherine beating Jason Derulo but I still think that Evanescence will debut higher, although drop more quickly. Katherine's album will be more of an enduring xmas/end of year seller.

If only it was performend on X Factor or soundtracking a tea advert!
