It doesn't claim to be "official" but may be close to what might be called that. It isn't total guesswork, like someone said last week. Infact, there isn't any guesswork used at all, because there is lots of adding up involved, may we tell you.

Adding up of figures which are guesswork. It may be good guesswork but unless they're official figures/positions given by the OCC, it's still guesswork.

Well Bre, mate...I don't think the singles chart has much relevance today anyway. What have we got? X Factor dominated re-entries & re-climbing week after week. Hyped up other songs by singers that rely on "fornication" to sale their stuff... I was talking to one of the DJs at the BBC, the other day & they basically agreed. They said the official chart has lost all credibility. Youngsters can't keep on track with the latest #1 because it changes nearly every week & the Radio One Top 40 hasn't got more than a million listeners. 25 years back it got 14 million listeners from the age of 11 to 50 every Sunday. You've got Independant Radio, with an even more dodgy chart than ever, that gets nearly 3 times the amount that Radio One does. And that was from the mouth of a 23 year old. You may find it hard to believe, but across Europe, the chart that Mike Robinson does for Jason Scott on the net, has now got a bigger weekly audience than R1. Which does actually tell me that our DJ friend is right. Anyway there are other chart companies, apart from OCC. OCC are just the oversight for Milward Brown & the BBC (who actually do their research for them). Like I said "we don't claim it to be "Official". If you wanted total guesswork, then you should of heard the Radio Luxembourg chart in the 70s & 80s...Now, that really was made up. Our's is based on mathematical ethics, average positions from download sites & actually uses some proper sales figures, abeit those from iTunes. So it ain't total guesswork. If it was then, it wouldn't be that close to Official mids etc. In any case how can you go to Hell & die...If you,ve gone to Hell, then you must already be dead. Don't get that quote. I'm not criticising this chart but trying to pass it off as anything other than complete guesswork is wrong. Edited October 10, 201113 yr by Bré
