Posted October 11, 201113 yr This is something that I raise in the mid thread. If supermarkets decide to stop stocking the physical single, there seems to be no point in stocking charity/X Factor Winners singles as these are what is keeping the physical market afloat at the moment, obviously you can buy others online but only in small amount. You can practically download anything now from a movie/TV programme. Seeing Matt Cardle struggling with his physical release which is hardly doing anything mind you the track is not really that good.
October 11, 201113 yr No, each situation should be judged on its own and if there is enough demand out there, the winner's single should get a physical release.
October 11, 201113 yr I disagree with not releasing the physical CD because from the artist point of view, as the winning single is being sold for £3.99 and we know that a lot of the physical CDs are brought, then the artist will get a decent amount of money from the sales of the CD. I personally think the artist gets paid around 100k from the sales of the winning single due to the fact that the majority of sales are from the CD and not the download. If they scrap the CD, then the sales of the winning single will drop massively to around 500k at most as most of the winning singles sell around 800k. Edited October 11, 201113 yr by StephenN18
October 11, 201113 yr I voted yes, if for no other reason that it would piss off Cowell! :w00t: Surely it would have to be sanctioned by Simon in which case how would he be pissed off?

The Highest ever was Shane with 700k. Leona and Alex 500k, the rest have been 400k, except for Leon who only sold 300k I think.

October 12, 201113 yr I don't think so. What else will panicking last-minute Christmas shoppers put in their kids' stocking otherwise?

October 12, 201113 yr I don't think supermarkets should stock some and not others, the XF winner shouldn't get special treatment over other acts. So if they aren't stocking normal artists then they shouldn't stock any at all IMO.

You can practically download anything now from a movie/TV programme. Seeing Matt Cardle struggling with his physical release which is hardly doing anything mind you the track is not really that good. Whether the track is good or not is highly subjective. I for one think it's a great song. But like many others I haven't bought the single as I am waiting for the album. I think as long as there is a market for it, although a small one, they should continue selling physical singles. Would be a sad day when the physical CDs die out although I can see that day is approaching. There is something special about owning a physical copy :)
October 12, 201113 yr as much as I don't like them, no, they shouldn't be discounted as they still sell in good numbers for physicals - if physicals slip so low, then maybe there's consideration, but for any 'Special occasion' tracks like this, there should be a physical Edited October 12, 201113 yr by C.W
