October 16, 201113 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles Rihanna became the first act and first female to have two No.1’s this decade, then Bruno Mars became the first male act with two chart toppers, and now this week LMFAO become the first group of the decade to score a second No.1 single in Australia, as their new single “Sexy and I Know it” becomes the 984th number one song in Australia (1940 to 2011). It’s also a sheer coincidence that it’s the third successive song to feature the word ‘Know’ in its title, as LMFAO’s track knocks Kelly Clarkson’s “Mr. Know it All” out of the top spot (and down to No.6) after one week at the top. The previous third know was Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” which drops a place to No.3 this week. “Sexy and I Know it” is the 29th No.1 for the Interscope label in Australia, and third this decade, with LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (TW-16) and Lady GaGa’s “Born This Way” (TW-82) being the other two for the label. It’s also the fifth ‘Sexy’ song to hit No.1, the last being David Guetta and Akon in August 2009 with “Sexy Bitch”. Rihanna and Calvin Harris take a step closer to the No.1 spot by rising up two places to a new peak of No.2 with “We Found Love”, and back up its former peak of No.4 are the Gym Class Heroes and Adam Levine with “Stereo Hearts”, as it leaps over Adam’s other top ten entry, holding at No.5 with “Moves Like Jagger” for his band Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. Kelly Clarkson leapt into the No.1 spot last week from No.12 to No.1 with “Mr. Know it All”, and this week it falls back half as harshly, dropping from the top to No.6 this week. The last occurrence of such a dramatic drop-from-the-top was back in early February 2009 when Jessica Mauboy’s “Burn” fell from No.1 to No.5 after also spending a single week at the top. And the big leap into the Top 10 this week is Flo Rida (feat Etta James on vocal sample) with “Good Feeling”, which is up nine places to No.7, giving Flo his seventh Top 10 appearance, with his last Top 10 entry being on the David Guetta track “Where Them Girls at” (HP-6 peaked May 2011). Speaking of David, he and Sia drop a place a No.8 with his track “Titanium”, which also pushes Cobra Starship’s “You Make Me Feel” drop a place to No.9, and re-entering the Top 10 at No.10 are Hot Chelle Rae and their track “Tonight Tonight”, now landing its third week within the Top 10. NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Calvin Harris took ten weeks to rise into the Top 10 with “Bounce” (TW-20), but his new single “Feel So Close” could do it next week in its eighth week on the chart, as its up three places to No.12 this week. Also up three to No.14 are Foster the People and their single “Pumped Up Kicks”, whilst Beyonce’s “Love on Top” rises seven places to land at No.21. Enrique and Pitbull take “I Like How it Feels” up eight places to No.26, and leaping ten spots to No.29 is Sean Paul and Alexis Jordan on “Got 2 Luv U”. Ed Sheeran leaps twenty-one places and into the Top 40, going from No.53 to No.32 with “The A Team”, and right behind him is another UK act, Drum N Bass duo Nero with “Promises”, whish is up to a new peak of No.33, and leaping back into the Top 40, and surpassing his No.39 peak by rising to No.37 is Gavin DeGraw’s “Not Over You”. Nickelback climb four places to No.42 with “When We Stand Together”, and climbing into the Top 50 this week are Simple Plan with Rivers Cuomo on “Can’t Keep My Hands Off You”, up eleven places to No.45 from last weeks debut of No.56. Scoring a sixth Top 50 entry from her “Teenage Dream” album is Katy Perry, who leaps thirty-nine places to No.48 with her latest single “The One That Got Away”, and right behind her at No.49, and up thirty-two places; is Nicole Scherzinger with “Wet”, whilst Pete Murray climbs back to his former two-week-peak of No.50 with “Free” for a third week at that spot. T-Pain scores the highest new entry of the week by debuting at No.44 with the third single from his late 2011 due fourth album “RevolveR”, entitled “5 o’clock”. The song features guest vocals from Wiz Khalifa and a sample of Lily Allen from her track “Who’d Have Known”. Last week T-Pain entered with “Booty Wurk”, which holds at No.72 this week. Lower 50: Florence + The Machine originally peaked at No.58 with their new single “Shake it Out”, which this week rises to a new peak of No.55 (up eight places from last week). Short Stack re-enter at No.56 with their new track “Bang Bang Sexy” and also score a new peak from that re-entry. Sneaky Sound System Cody Simpson scores his third ARIA Singles Chart entry by debuting at No.51 with "On My Mind", taken from his newly crowned Top 20 album "Coast to Coast" (up from No.28 to No.16 this week). His two previous tracks were "iYiYi" (with Flo Rida) which hit No.19 in early August of 2010, and "All Day" which made it to No.97 in August of this year. Wynter Gordon scores her fifth chart appearance, as she debuts at No.77 with "Buy My Love", the third single from her album "With the Music I Die". She is also currently still charting as guest vocalist on this weeks No.84 track "Take Me Away" (HP-32) for Marvin Priest. Local rapper 360 scored the highest new entry on the albums chart last week with his second album "Falling and Flying" (TW-10). Two new singles debut from that set this week, coming in at No.81 is "Boys Like You" featuring Gossling, and debuting at No.88 is "Killer". Whilst another local singer makes her debut at No.83, Vanessa Amarosi enters with "Amazing". The most recently broadcast Glee episode in Australia scores two new entries this week, plus helps one of those songs original version to re-enter. "Run the World (Girls)" for Beyonce was performed on the Glee episode by Britney, and her version debuts at No.91, whilst Beyonce's original re-enters at No.64. Last week Coldplay's "Fix You" re-entered at No.79 and climbs to No.68 this week, whilst the Glee version debuts at No.99. Lastly, entering at No.98 is New York singer/songwriter Lana Del Ray with her debut single, the hauntingly beautiful "Video Games". Albums Adele's record-breaking run at the top continues this week, with her "21" album now notching up a 22nd week at No.1, and brings it three weeks shy of John Farnham's "Whispering Jack" album which accumulated 25 weeks at the top in 1986/87. Four more albums within the Top 10 hold places this week too, with Tony Bennett's "Duets" holding at No.2, LMFAO's "Sorry for Party Rocking" at No.6, David Guetta's "Nothing But the Truth" at No.7 and Lee Kernaghan's "Ultimate Hits" at No.8. Dropping down one place to No.4 is Gotye's "Making Mirrors", which falls back to its lowest point for a second time, as it has so far only been seen in the 1-2-3 and 4 positions in it's eight weeks on the chart. Blink 182's "Neighborhoods" is down four places to No.9, and last weeks highest new entry for 360, "Falling & Flying" is down six places to No.10. Chris Isaak's twelfth studio album (15th album in total) "Beyond the Sun" is the highest new entry this week, debuting at No.3, and released a week earlier in Australia than overseas. It becomes Chris' fifth Top 10 album in Australia, and this new album is a collection of songs sung by Sun Records acts like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison.
