Rihanna feat Calvin Harris - We Found Love stays at #1

Shock horror ... we have found a 2 week number one single! Rihanna and Calvin Harris debuted together at #1 last week with We Found Love on just 4 days of sales and now stays there with a full week of sales. The closest competition this week was from Adam Levine twice over, however next week the pair face competition from held back releases by The Wanted, Kelly Clarkson and Lana Del Rey.

Gym Class Heroes feat Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts enters at #3

US hip hop group Gym Class Heroes make their return as this week's highest new entry at #3, alongside Marron 5's Adam Levine. Fronted by Travis (Travie) McCoy, the group first appeared on the Supertramp sampling Cupid's Chokehold which hit #3 in 2006, followed by #5 Jermaine Stewart sampling Clothes Off. Both of those singles featured Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, then in 2008 they teamed up with The Dream to score a #6 hit with Cookie Jar and now a 4th top 10 hit with Stereo Hearts. Adam Levine can now lay claim to having 2 simultaneous top 3 hits as Moves Like Jagger remains locked at #2 for a 7th straight week.

Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life enters at #6

So this is the time of year when last year's X Factor winner makes a second top 40 appearence following on from the huge #1 debut, after a performance on the show. Step forward Matt Cardle who won the show in 2010 with his version of When We Collide, which has now sold just shy of 1 million copies. Run For Your Life is Matt's debut single aside from the winner's song and is taken from his debut album Letters. The track has been written by Gary Barlow and has all the hall marks of a Take That single. Time will tell if Matt does well with his album or subsequent singles.

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night reenters at #28, Nicki Minaj - Superbass reenters at #21

US mega star Katy Perry had a 13 week top 40 run this year with Last Friday Night, marking her 9th top 10 hit by peaking at #9. It now finds itself back in at #28, following the release of a remix at a reduced price of 59p. 59p reduction of selected tracks on iTunes has resulted in a great many songs experiencing boosts lately, such as Beyonce's hit a place above (X Factor also helped there). Nicki Minaj's #8 hit Superbass is back at #21 following an X Factor performance and

Ed Sheeran - Lego House anters at #30

Ed Sheeran this week builds himself up a 3rd top 30 hit from his huge selling album entitled +. This of course follows up debut monster hit The A Team, which climbs back into the top 10 following X Factor usage and #4 hit You Need Me I Don't Need You.

Nero - Crush On You enters at #37

London based dupstep / drum & bass duo Nero get their 4th top 40 hit this week as Crush On You enters at #37 after hanging around outside of the top 40 for several weeks. Nero's first single release was double A side Innocence / Electron, which missed the top 100, as they became better known, their top 40 debut came this year. The #15 hit Me & You was then followed by #8 hit Guilt and short lived #1 Promises. Crush On You is essentially a cover of the 1985 album track from US band The Jets.

Kanye West feat Dwele - Power re-enters at #38

US rapper / singer / producer Kanye Omari West makes a return to the top 40 this week with his 2010 track Power, originally the lead track from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. The track originally made #36, and has since been used in several film trailers and most recently the trailer for the Xbox game Forza Motorsport 4 E3 2011. Power is credited as sampling 3 different songs - 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson, Afromerica by Continent No 6, and It's Your Thing by Cold Grits.

Timbaland feat Pibull - Pass At Me enters at #40

US hip hop producer and singer Timbland makes a return to the top 40 this week as he makes a pass at Pitbull, the first single from his Shock Value III album due out early next year. This marks his first top 40 hit since him and Justin Timberlake had a carry out last year, and is his lowest charting single since 1999. he made his first appearence alongside Destiny's Child on Get On The Bus that same year and has since amassed 8 top 10 hits (as credited artist), 2 of those were #1s Give It To Me and The Way I Are.

Steps top the album chart in a 1990's throwback!

In 1997, a UK 5 piece pop band called Steps released their debut single 5678 then went on to score 14 straight top 10 hits before splitting in 2001, now following their reunion TV special and tour announcement Ultimate Collection enters at #1 in the album charts. Evanescence hit #4 with their third self titled album after #1 debut with Fallen and #2 follow up Open Door. Katherine Jenkins enters at #6 with Daydream, Jason Derulo at #7 with 2nd album Future history and Ryan Adams at #9 with Ashes & Fire. Finally mention must go to Cliff Richard who scores his 100,000,000th album entry with Soulicious, an album of soul covers.

Personal opinion

I am happy to see Rihanna remain at #1 as I quite like We Found Love, although M5 would've been better at #1. I really don't like that Stereo Hearts song by Gym Class Heroes, even although Adam Levine sings on it. I really like Matt Cardle's debut and can't wait to hear his album. I love the new Ed Sheeran single and love his entire album actually, so good to see Lego House shape up to be big. I think Steps being #1 in the albums is a total and utter joke but only slightly better than Evanescence.

Loudjamesbond - Steps had 15 Top 10 Hits, (all consecutive), not 14. You are forgetting

their 'Thank ABBA For The Music' Hit. It reached No.4, in 1999. It was credited to Steps,

Tina Cousins, Cleopatra, Billie (Piper), & B*Witched.

Steps have their 3rd No.1 Album, & first in 9 Years & 11 Months. it is their 8th No.1

Week, 25th Top 5 Week, & 52nd Top 10 Week.

As Steps try to emulate ABBA so much, here are the same criteria for ABBA Albums.

9 No.1 Albums, 57 No.1 Weeks, 224 Top 10 Weeks, & 149 Top 5 Weeks. I look forward

to seeing Steps catch up to - or over-take - ABBA. (Until The Twelth Of Never, & That's A

Long, Long Time....).

Ah yes I have removed that one from my memory. I have tried to remove Steps as a whole from my memory but sadly that didn't work. Those stats say it all don't they, ABBA were incredible and still are.
