Yes it was a success but if you compare it to singles of the albums like said it all, up all night etc which werent lead singles or heavily promoted they sold 120,000 or so, shame was heavily promoted wasnt available on an album initially, had a phyisical release and had huge hype around it and was the first record gary and robbie worked together in years it didnt sell aswell as expected but only sold about 80,000 more, in an opposite comparison the lead singles of all 3 albums sold in or around a half a million each in the UK. Shame should have managed much much more sales but the song got very mixed reviews and many fans didnt like it.

Shame is a strange situation, as much as it was a hit it wasnt at the same time. I think it could be fair to say many people were totally underwhelmed by the song and it certainly was not what people expected to come. I do think the sales for shame were very disapointing in comparison to other one of singles or lead singles. Shame got some great promo such as strictly come dancing but it didnt do much to increase sales, shame appears to have been mainly bought by the fanbase and didnt really reach out to anyone beyond that.

Strictly last in 2010 was not great promo really. Its viewing figures were very low and it did hardly anything for any of the artists' singles including rob and gary's.

Patience must have sold near a million worldwide now anyways. Its sold about 650k over here, sold 200k in Germany and went number 1 and top 10 in a few other countries. Rule the World cant be too far off a million either worldwide as its again sold over 800k in the UK. That shows how successful TT's singles are that two alone have nearly hit 2 million copies worldwide

In terms of sales i think rule the way world is way ahead of patience but both were huge hits and both great songs although rule the world is in a league of its own for me as i love the song.
I am split between both, there are time when I love Rule The World more and other when I love Patience more. Both are fantastic tracks that I will listen to in 20 years time. That said, the Rule The World performance on the Progress tour certainly was not the best arrangement of the song I have heard from them.

I prefer Patience. It is the perfect comeback single they could have ever come back with. The lyrics are all about their nervousness coming back and how they are trying to get over the past i.e solo careers and everything else.

RTW is a fantastic song, I agree it wasnt well done in Progress but was the ultimate way to end Circus

Rule The World closed the Beautiful World era in relation to albums, is that you mean?

Sorry i just read it back and it does sound a bit vague. I meant RTW at the end of the circus tour, as the closing song with the fireworks etc, prob one of my favourite highlights from any of the concerts ive seen
Indeed it was a fantastic end to the concert and that Rule the World performance was just epic and so touching and memorable.

Gary's doing rather well at the moment with his recent charity concert for CIN, and putting together the big Jubilee concert. I can see him becoming Sir Gary Barlow before long.

Gary Barlow to sing Beatles hit for advert

GARY Barlow is to record a version of classic George Harrison hit Here Comes The Sun — for Marks & Spencer.

A source said he will fly to South Africa on Friday to begin filming with M&S models Twiggy, Dannii Minogue, Lisa Snowdon, Noemie Lenoir and Jamie Redknapp.

They will appear at a traditional British tea party for the campaign. And it will feature Gary singing Harrison's hit — written for The Beatles' 1969 Abbey Road album. An M&S insider said: "It's hard to improve on perfection but Gary's certain to give the song a modern twist.

"They hope it's going to be the anthem of the summer."

M&S bosses are looking at selling the single once their 'A Summer To Remember' campaign begins on TV at the start of April.

Im not a fan of the original to be honest, id have rathered a different song but with it be played constantly on TV adverts it might just do well when it is made available to buy.

Im not a fan of the song either but it will get exposure, i will wait to hear what Garys version is like before i pass comment,

would you say its solo work though? or an afternoon in a studio putting vocals on it and never doing it again?
Its hard to tell been honest but seeing its an advert i would be more inlcined if i was a betting man to put money on" an afternoon in a studio putting vocals on it and never doing it again"
HCTS is the best song on the Abbey Road album (and probably the best song Harrison ever wrote). I liked Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel's version too. I hope Gary doesn't mess it up. Still - if its only to be used in a tv campaign - I suppose its ok.

There's been a couple of songs on adverts that have killed the originals imo, the worst being the Ellie Goulding cover of Elton John (I didnt think she had a big enough voice or personality for Your Song)

Hopefully Gary will freshen it up or more importantly whoever produces it will give it a lively kick rather than a drab boring cover

I would not be overly fond of Here Comes The Sun and i am not sure Garys voice (as much as i love it) will change that for me at all. I will listen with an open mind but i cant see it floating my boat all that much to be honest.

It depends how much they play of the song in the advert, if they pick a lively part of the song where Gary nails it vocally then I think it will do quite well.

Yeah in the source it says they are looking at releasing it which means they will. They know that any track featuring Gary will sell as TT and Gary fans will buy it + whoever likes the version solely on the voice rather than the singer.
