You can't measure objectively how much emotion someone conveys in their voice, so I think it's hard to disagree with someone when it all comes down to personal interpretation.

I'm not saying I'm agreeing with it but I don't think it's something you can really argue about.

I think you can! Anybody who says someone like Aretha or Otis Redding aren't at least up there with Dolly is an idiot to be frank. Even somebody like Nick Drake and nobody does sexual frustration like Robert Plant.

Just digging up this topic because I've been listening to quite alot of Dolly these last 6 months. I've listened to some of her albums and in the end decided to purchase ''Ultimate Dolly Parton'', which seemed to be the most complete compilation I could find.

My favorite track is, surprisingly, ''But You Know That I Love You''. She didn't write it herself but it sure is beautiful. I even prefer it over her classics.

I'll listen to that because I own the album but havent heard it in full. The Backwoods Barbie and Better Day album are really good.

I haven't listened to those [yet]! I started with earlier material and then went to her late 90 albums ('Hungry Again' & 'The Grass Is Blue'). I love when you start listening to artists with a big catalogue like her, so much to choose from.

Random but I borrowed a biography of her from the library during my lunch break from work experience today as it's near the library, it's really interesting!

I should go into her back catalogue more, I have Backwoods Barbie and one of the GHs but that's it

I've heard The River Unbroken and Dump The Dude from her Rainbow album. They are great I might have to buy the physical album cos iTunes are charging £7.99.

So many of my fav artists list her as an inspiration, and I found out about her mainly through covers of her songs. But when I listen to her I just don't dig it :( She writes good songs though. And I think if I were a fan of her back in 80' I wouldn't attend her shows now because it's just not the same

Dolly Parton is one of the most iconic female artists of all time - and has been going since the late '60's!

Here is a playlist of (some of) my favourite recordings:
