Have you scripts running on your PC Jups, maybe that is what is slowing it down. What op system are you using..Mozilla is notorious for running slow

You know what? It seems to be always downloading updates. Everytime it downloads updates it runs very very slow. God knows what all these 'updates' are. I never notice anything different.

Evening btw. I've been working in the garden all day. I am beyond tired :(

Pouring down with rain here today, I've got the central heating on too. Bye bye summer :(

Jups, what virus detector do you have? Norton tends to slow computers down a bit.

Try running a Defrag Jups if you have Windows

Click on Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup>Disk Defrag. If you have linux you do not need to defragment as the filesystems in linux are more intelligent for file placement.

I have De-Fragged loads already. No difference. :(

I have AVG ant-virus installed.

Oh and I use Mozilla. I thought it was supposed to be a lot faster than IE ?

How long have you AVG, have you checked all the settings, it could be that it's doing too many scans. I have my anti virus set to do a full scan late in the evening , not on start up, or you can delay it after start up, if anything tries to get past AVG will stop it immediatley.

I think Mozilla is slower than IE , just mho -_-

Jups

Oi have sent you a pm re PC probs ;)

Where is everyone tonight

Jups go into Control Panel, click on Add or Remove Programs, go through them and delete some of the stuff you are not using at all, some of the programs probably are using a lot of memory which you do not need, just a case of freeing some of your memory space from your PC which is slowing your computer down, otherwise your PC needs a memory upgrade.

I deleted a lot of programs I hardly used, and its much faster and efficient now.

And if you using an earlier version of Windows, my advice is to upgrade, at least to WindowsXP, or the latest, old OS tend to slow things down eventually your computer will seize up, as it needs more memory space on it.

Ok, I went into my Add/Remove programmes. I have 110. About 90 of which I have no idea about. Scared to delete. They might be important. I've deleted 3 I'm sure I no longer use.

Tonight I'm going to use all my on-line time deleting e-mails. I have over 2000.... Maybe that'll free up some space. I'll let you know tomorrow if any better.

You definitely have too many progs Jups, surely you do not need them all, Do you use Google chrome by any chance, that slows down your pc as well, it's better to stick to the simple one , some of them have ads ons that you cannot see , they kinda piggy back a ride when you download & can really slow down your sys

What's the ram speed on your laptop Jups? The higher the ram, the faster it will go.

 Does anyone have any ideas for a new off topic name? Need to start a new thread soon.

Maybe something do with with the new album or the baby?

Evening :cheer:

Right, I'm back to IE. Haven't used it in about 10 years. I'm all disorientated

Where do I find my RAM speed?

Oh Lord. IE is even slower and more unstable than Mozilla. I've been logged on since 10.55 and it has crashed 3 times. And screen keeps freezing. Back to Plan A....

Back on Mozilla. -_-

It is slow because it's running something in the background. Downloading an upgrade or something. I can hear it. It whizzes away. <_<

Are you sure it's not AVG whizzing away -_-

No! It isn't scanning. Anyway, the whizzy noise has stopped. Whatever it was doing is over. And PC is running great again. There is something kicking in every time I switch on my PC. It lasts for about 40 minutes and then stops and everything works fine again.

Nope. I've checked AVG. Last scan was last night.

I demand a teckie geek explains what is happening
