Madonna, a multi Grammy Award-winning Universal Records recording artist, will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on NBC on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the NFL and NBC announced at halftime of Sunday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions. Madonna's performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King.

 

The Bridgestone Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide.

 

Madonna joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.

 

A world class entertainer, singer, songwriter, producer, director, and video visionary, Madonna has sold more than 300 million records in the course of her three-decade career as The Material Girl. She is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her last tour was the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. Madonna is currently in the recording studio working on a new album scheduled to be released next year. Her new film W.E., which she directed, wrote and produced, is opening in a limited one-week release Dec. 9 in Los Angeles and will open nationally on Feb. 3, two days prior to Super Bowl XLVI.

Will she be launching her album then at this time, or will it be a new single + previous hits?

^I have no idea but I suspect she'll be launching the new single and she'll probably be singing some of her old hits. I get this nagging feeling she'll be doing LAP, ROL and Music. It'd be great if she'd perform Hung Up but that may be a lil too disco for a football crowd.

Madonna summons the Cirque du Soleil

 

When the news broke this week that Madonna had chosen Cirque du Soleil and another Montreal company, Moment Factory, to help her create a stunning Super Bowl halftime act, it grabbed headlines around the world.

 

Jacques Méthé is the executive producer and general manager of special events and images at Cirque du Soleil, a lesser known department that Madonna has just elevated into the spotlight.

 

When I spoke to Méthé on Monday, I learned that the Cirque already had a relationship with the NFL. We delivered a pre-game Super Bowl number for them in Miami several years ago, he said.

 

Previous Cirque sports event gigs include a basketball event, in Turkey, he added. We do anywhere between 30 and 60 events every year, the size of which differ greatly,

 

But none so stellar, yet top secret, as the Madonna operation.

 

Madonnas team initiated the deal, he explained, although the fact that Jamie King, who just directed the Cirques Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, is also involved makes it seem like its all in the family.

 

Our role in this is to contribute ideas and components to the scenario, Méthé said. It is our imagination that is solicited here.

 

One thing is clear, Its all about Madonna, he said. We leave it to her to decide if and when she wants to reveal anything. This is a Madonna event that were contributing to. Its not about Cirque, its about Madonna. The part were playing there is really in the creative content and the follow-up, until delivery.

 

As for Moment Factory, it was the Cirque who brought them on board, to handle the projections and multimedia side of the number.

 

The Cirque team has been working with Madonna for about three weeks now, Méthé said. And yes, she has been very hands-on.

 

She knows what she wants, he said. Thats how big stars are.

Tabitha is known for working with her husband, choreographer Napoleon Buddy D'Umo. Together - also known as Nappytabs - they choreographed important concets, events, tv shows and music videos, including the MJ Immortal Tour.

 

 

We also heard that Tiffany Olson is co-directing the performance with Jamie King.

 

Hopefully what ever good ideas M gets from this will lead to an even better performance on tour!.

We finally got confirmation that the Queen of Pop would indeed be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVI. Soon thereafter, a series of tweets from Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. revealed that filming for the video to "Gimme All Your Luvin," the first single from her forthcoming, still-untitled 12th studio album, was underway. And this week, we found out that said album would be released by Interscope as part of a three-album deal, making her label-mates with Lady Gaga and Eminem.

 

"We couldn't be happier to work with [interscope's] Jimmy Iovine, [Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group] Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team," Madonna's longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement. "We anticipate a very bright future at our new home."

Super Bowl to be streamed online and to mobile phones

 

The Super Bowl will be streamed online and to mobile phones in the U.S. for the first time, the NFL announced today. The Super Bowl will be available on the league's and network's websites and through Verizon's NFL Mobile app. The service will include additional camera angles.

"With such a big television audience, it will be interesting to see the expanded reach," Hans Schroeder, the NFL's senior vice president of media strategy and development, told The Associated Press.

 

The NFL and NBC will do extensive research to find out exactly how many people are watching the streams and how they're using them.
